Let's see, I think I'll give it an A+ (Of course, that's like my general grade for NY, but whatever
). I'm the only A+ so far. Maybe I'm just being generous.
I didn't pay as close attention as I should have, because I was chatting during the episode, but I saw most of the stuff.
I'm going to re-watch it tomorrow, so I might have things to add then, but for now here are my thoughts.
First, let's start with the good things
:
I'm glad they mentioned Flack's recovery quickly. The conversation with Stella and Lindsay was cute and showed that they're all comfortable with each other--a definite improvement over S2 where we weren't quite sure if Flack knew Lindsay was even around.
And of course he got phone numbers--he probably wasn't wearing that wretched tie at the time. But Flack, baby, show us the scar!
Danny and Hawkes working together is always a treat. I love those two, and I hope this means we'll get to see more of Hawkes this season rather than always having him in the background.
No unnecessary Danny/Lindsay scene. I really expected it, after the end of season 2, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm sure the writers will make up for it in the next few episodes, but for now I can at least say that the premiere wasn't ruined by that crap.
Lindsay was on a roll with the science tonight. Maybe they're acknowledging that she's more of a scientist than a cop, similar to what Eddie said in that interview from a little bit ago. The experiment on Mac was pretty funny too.
Can I just say that I thought the fist-print thing was totally cool? /dork
"Marry Me" on the side of the building? So sweet.
But Flack, darling, you don't have to do anything so extravagant for the ladies, just smile and promise never to wear those wretched ties again, and you're gold. (But I just kid, I have to say the ties work for Flackie.
)
I'm loving Detective Angell so far. I don't think she's an Aiden clone or anything like that. A beautiful woman with dark hair is sometimes just a beautiful woman with dark hair. And as for the attitude--who on this show doesn't have one? So yeah, I really don't see the Aiden-rip-off comparison. I thought she was great, and I'm hopeful that she'll be a good addition to the show. I agree that there was a lot of newness in this episode, but with Kelly Hu gone, they sort of
had to jump right in with the new detective. I like that Danny and Hawkes clearly knew her already, and they were all immediately comfortable working together. I may have detected a bit of teasing/flirting there at the beginning of that scene, methinks.
Between Danny and Hawkes, though, I have to say Angell should definitely go for The Good Doctor. Aside from the lame line about the angel getting her wings, it's total hotness (and besides, the teddy bear needs some loving too
).
Love love love Hammerback. They just dove into his craziness, and that makes teh Fay happy.
The guys looked hot, of course. And Danny even had on a button-up shirt at the end. Sexy sexy, baby.
Oh, and my mother informed me that Gary is bringing sexy back with that first scene.
***
And now for the not-so-good things
:
Er, Stella, I could totally see most of your boobs this time around.
Can I, like, help you find the other half of your shirt? It's not that she looked vulgar or anything, I just think it was a bit much.
I'm not too fond of Peyton at this point. Haven't seen much of her, it's true, but I dunno...she's just sort of
meh to me so far. I immediately liked Angell, whereas I sort of blinked and waited to catch on with Peyton. I didn't like that she was all 'who interrupted my activities? *waggles eyebrows at Mac*' (not a quote, obviously
) at the crime scene--that was just not right.
Don't get me wrong, I know they wanted to introduce the romance angle and show how Mac deals with it, etc, but I'm not confident at this point. And I have to say, it makes me even
more apprehensive about any possible Danny/Lindsay thing the writers might have in mind. My personal dislike of it aside, can you imagine how awkward it would be? The few Mac/Peyton scenes that dealt with it were kind of iffy for me, so imagine if it were two main characters instead of one main character with a guest star...not good, I'm thinking. Honestly, I hope the writers leave the D/L thing hanging at this point and choose to drop it before they take it anywhere. Shipping is fun in fanfic, but on the show, no thanks.
Can I just say that I called the father as the murderer as soon as they showed him on the roof with his daughter? I should have bet money on it.
Naked bungee jumping--I gotta jump on the 'no thanks' bandwagon here.
They couldn't have just been bungee jumping? It had to be about sex?
Well, that's all I can think of for now. We'll see if anybody adds anything else we've missed so far.
