"Family Affair" Tenth Season Premiere Discussion *SPOILERS*

I think they had a hard time saying 'Sara' and 'husband' in the same sentence.

Yeah, that was cute... and the smiles and laughs after that were just awesome.

I don't mind some tension, I just wish the writers had chosen to have them say different words. I just didn't like Nick saying Greg was whining. It just reminded me too much of the Grissom/Nick scene... and Nick didn't like when Grissom said that to him and that's why I feel that it was out of character for him to say it to Greg (or anyone else for that matter).

Overall, I really, really liked this episode.

I liked the fact that Super and Wendy were in the credits.

Finally, Nicky gets his promotion. It's been a long time coming.

The spider thing was so cute. I like how it's one of Grissom's that has been roaming the lab for God Knows how long. That was precious.

I did love the freeze frame in the beginning. I wasn't expecting to, but I thought it really highlighted things.

I also loved the interraction between Sara and the rest of the cast. It really shows that they've kept up with each other after she and Grissom had both left.

Greg's hug, The scene in the locker room with Catherine were both gems. She really fit in nicely. I loved it.

I actually like Langston. Granted, I've only seen about 5 episodes from after Grissom left, tonight included, but IMO, he didn't quite take the show over in a bad way.

The case was good, and had me guessing to the end. I so did not see that twist coming.

I also didn't mind the whole Riley thing. She seemed like she was a bit of a maverick that did things her own way. It also seemed that she did have a problem with authority, so perhaps she would not have gotten on with any supervisor. Yes, it sucks that LLS was dismissed without cause, but Hey, I'm glad they at least mentioned her name, unlike some people who've just up and vanished.

Now, on to the stuff I didn't care so much for.

I did not like Whiney!Greg at all. So totally OOC for me. He would so not talke back to his supervisor like that, especially Catherine. His saying something to Sara when they met in the hall felt natural. His whining did not.

I also didn't care for Nick's reaction. Once again, OOC to the max. Nick would have pulled Greg aside and said something. Not snapped back at him like that.

I also was not down with Ecklie's reasoning on bringing Sara back. He HATED her. (well, maybe a bit strong, but he did tell Grissom to fire her in S5. Why would he change his tune so radically?) The LV crime lab must REALLY be desperate for staff to bring an employee that was on such thin ice, then walked away without explanation, unless Grissom magically made her bones with them....

I also was not down with the scene in the break room or layout room or whatever. I don't think Catherine would have snapped like that at Nick, I'm not sure he would have yelled at Ecklie like that, either. Hell, I don't think that she would have snapped like that at Ecklie...She's the more low key type. Way too OTT.

Overall, I'd give it an A-.

Dang now I really wish I had been able to see the very beginning because I missed it and now reading other people's responses I want to watch it just so I can have an my own oppion and feelings on it. :( Now that you mention it yeah that doesn't seem logical that Catherine would snap at Ecklie, she's normally the one that tries to stay calm. Unless I totally missed something in the last two years that I haven't watched the show.

Okay I got to watch the episode now. I thought it was a really good episode. I do admit once they played out the shoot out scene in real time it was not as thrilling. But the opening/Matrix style was pretty cool.

It did figure Greg would know who the actress was. Now I did think the way Greg acted in that scene was a bit out of character and I did not like the little bickering between him and Nick but being a Greg fan it did kind of excite me just to see him get mad like that. It is such a rare thing to see that emotion from him but then again that is why it is sort of OOC. I did not care for Nick saying he was whining, even though it sort of was the truth. I just do not like how the writer's approached that bit. I did like that once he was at the scene at the hotel and Officer Andy was complaining, Greg said that this victim also deserved to have his killer found. That was very Greg-like.

Figures Hodges would be the one to open his mouth. Glad he learned his lesson though. He probably won't be doing that again.

I did love the little scene between Sara and Greg. I've always loved their friendship.
I was also glad to see Sara respect Catherine and give her some really good advice.

I did like Ray more in this episode for some reason. Maybe because it was not Ray overkill for a change.

The first spider scene with Nick had me cracking up with the scared look on his face. He was sweating bullets handling that spider. But the later scene with him and Greg was really cute. Glad they did not hold grudges against each other.

It was another case of the two cases being connected though, which they love to do on this show.

I am really curious what was found in that body. Dang, have to wait to next week now.

Loved seeing Liz and David in the opening credits and just new clips overall. :)

So I'm not the only one who felt that it was out of character. I totally agree that Greg's outburst was not natural. And that Nick would have pulled Greg aside and told him to let it go rather than embarass him by calling him a whiner in front of Catherine and Ray. The whole scene on their parts felt very immature to me and neither Greg nor Nick are immature.

Totally agree with all of the above. Greg getting mad at Mrs. James, his reaction there was very in character... but his reaction here was not. And I agree that Greg in the scene with the officer was very good.

I did like Ray more in this episode for some reason. Maybe because it was not Ray overkill for a change.

I totally agree. His scenes were very well done and this is the way it should always be. Good job to tptb on that one. I really did like Ray in this one, especially him as the peace keeper in the blow-up scene. He was the only one in that scene who was actually in character. Catherine was even a little out of character at first, though she didn't say much. The old Catherine would have been more like, "Greg, I'm sorry, we're just really short handed here. I don't mean to make you feel like you're not important and I promise things will get better once the pressure's off, but for right now, it would really be helpful if you did the trash run just this once more." Or something to that effect. It would have difused the situation quickly and effectively and I think would have shown that Catherine does respect Greg and his role on the team.

The first spider scene with Nick had me cracking up with the scared look on his face. He was sweating bullets handling that spider. But the later scene with him and Greg was really cute. Glad they did not hold grudges against each other.

hehe yeah... the way he looked from behind the book all wide-eyed like a curious boy was so adorable. And I really loved the Nick/Greg scene. Their scenes together are few and far between these days, so it was really nice to see one with them, just the two of them where they were all smiles and laughter. I guess they apologized to each other off-screen. Would have liked to have seen it though. One of those quick man-hug's (the half hug, half pat on the back for a job well done kind of thing) would have been nice. :) have we ever even seen Nick and Warrick hug? Speaking of hugs, did I blink and miss the Sara/Nick hug? Or was that cut? I was trying to write stuff down about the ep and my stupid pen didn't like the paper I was using, so I had to search for one that did. So, I could have missed that.

Loved seeing Liz and David in the opening credits and just new clips overall. :)

Yeah, that was nice. Unlike Miami who have been using the same clips forever and just adding news ones of new characters.

Hopefully it'll be up on TV.com, Fancast, or Hulu by tomorrow. I'll probably take another gander at it once it's up.

Although, it seems that none of those sites have any CSI eps up anymore. Meh.

I know I try to watch old episodes to catch up and I can't find them and it just bugs me to death. I only own season 3 of CSI and I really like a lot of other episodes that I can't find anywhere, I think its time I catch up on my DVD collection. When does CBS post episodes is it at end of the season or a few days/weeks after the episode airs? I wouldn't mind watching this episode again for one thing, not just for the scenes I missed either just cause I liked the episode.

This is the first episode I ever watched with Ray in it and I don't mind him so far, but then again I haven't had to deal with the Ray "overload" people have been talking about.

I am actually quite shocked that the original CSI is having the least amount of discussion out of all three shows. Hmm.

The episode was thoroughly entertaining--I was really amazed at how well done the opening 'Teaser' was.

Sara's re-introduction actually wasn't bad as I'd thought it would be, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well I liked Sara in "Family Affair." Her reassuring Catherine that she was a good team leader as well as referencing back to "Primum Non Nocere" with the baseball reference (Grissom) was a delight to see. The fact that she was able to have the right to shoot a gun right away bothered me a bit, as I'm sure her license has expired by now. But overall, Sara seems like a happier, nicer person, which I am happy to see.

Ending wise, I wasn't left with the feeling like I have to see the next episode, though. The way it was done, felt cheap and appears that Langston will be after the serial killer this season. Not a surprise--maybe it can be a Doc Robbins/Langston duo ("The Gone Dead Train" showed what great work these two do together), but I was expecting a more shocking, entertaining killer ending. We'll see.

I give the episode a B+, and on another note, am very happy to see Jacqueline Hoyt as a co-producer on the show as well as Allen MacDonald as co-producer now. :)

I think it might be because I know a lot of people could not watch it live. I had to watch it recorded once I got home from work. Maybe by tomorrow there will be more comments.

I know CSI: NY and the NCIS shows are up on Fancast, and CBS.com, already. I think that they try to get the eps up ASAP. How long they stay up depends on the show. Some they yank after a week, others, like most of the CBS shows, stayed up untill very recently. Hopefully they'll get it up tomorrow.

Back on Topic,

I really enjoyed the stop motion thing at the beginning. Yeah, it made the live action firefight seem less dramatic, other than Action!Robbins. Don't mess with him, or you'll get clacked upside the head with a leg crutch!

I also liked the way they didn't give it away from the first. You know the perp was slimey, and you knew he did something reprehensible, but you didn't know the whole story. I loved that. (deliberately being vague, here, 'cause I don't know who's seen it yet.)

Well I'm almost done watching and...I feel pretty meh about it.

I've never liked Ray and the mere fact that he's STILL here, taking Grissom's place, bugs me. :shifty:

LOVED seeing Sara! <3 I missed her. :D

Not the best premiere of the ten seasons, but certainly not the worst. We all miss Grissom but this looks to be a great season. I love seeing Sara again and it's going to become Nick's show, I think. He's amazing. Not enuf Wendy or Henry or Hodges or Archie, but hopefully in the coming weeks. Hooray for new episodes!!!

According to the CSIFiles News Items, CSIFiles will be making the videos available as soon as they appear on CBS:

Sweet. I didn't know that. That's what I get for only going to the boards.
