Doctor Who!

I enjoyed the episode on Saturday. I was never really taken by Donna in the Christmas special and thought it was a strange choice of companion, but I think it'll work quite well, particularly as she doesn't hold any of those kind of feelings for the Doctor. I thought it was funny when she said something along the lines of him being a 'streak of alien nothing', he just wants a friend and she is the perfect companion for him right now. :)

I was super surprised at the end when Rose appeared. I just wasn't expecting that at all.

And yes, I too want a baby adipose. So cute, yet they are just balls of fat which is gross, but when they wave they just look so sweet. I felt bad for them when the taxi accidentally ran some of them down. Cutesy aliens are the best!

This is more of a rumour than a spoiler, but still I'm sticking it in spoiler tags just to be on the safe side.

Not only is Rose coming back, but the last few episodes are going to be FULL of returning guest stars - Jackie(wonder if Rose has a brother or sister now?) Mickey, Jack and Sarah Jane!

I've read an extension of that rumour.

Not only are Rose, Mickey, Jackie, Martha, Sarah-Jane and Jack appearing, but also Gwen Williams (nee Cooper) and Ianto Jones from Torchwood. There are a lot of very happy fans hearing this rumour, since it's been a desire for the Doctor and Ianto to meet. Two hot men in suits...

It's decidedly more than rumor because those you've mentioned aside from one, have all been seen on the Who set. I believe there are actual images floating about and some vid clips as well. Can't quite remember the site though..

Anyone see last night's Doctor Who? I thought it was very enjoyable, entertaining and a little bit sad. I liked how they ended up being the household gods for the family, that was a nice ending. :)

I'm worried that the 'Mr and Mrs' joke will get old quickly, but otherwise I think that Donna and the Doctor are well suited. She doesn't just accept what he says, and he can learn something from her too.

The preview for next week looks fantastic. :)

awww....not fair! you guys get to see the Doctor first! i have to wait another week before i get to see the series premiere! everything is so slow over here...:brickwall:

Some serious angsty moments for the Doctor this week, he can just about cope with having to let the people of Pompeii die, but it bothers him when he knows he's the one who kills them all - even when he has to do it to save the world, he still needs Donna's support to make it happen.

Donna was very shouty, but it's understandable - how many of us would be able to resist trying to save people if we had the chance to go back? Heck, even Rose tried it way back in Father's Day. I like that she didn't turn into a nervous wreck even when kidnapped - she was more indignant than terrified. And, of course, the Spartacus gag! I also liked the running joke whenever they used Latin phrases.

Yay for the return of the Ood next week! Not bad for a race created simply because the special effects people didn't want to renovate the Slitheen costumes!

I know that feeling when it comes to CSI. LV isn't too bad as a rule (especially at the moment when we're only a few days behind, but with Miami we're way behind!

Back to the good Doctor. It's worth the wait. I thought the premiere was really good; Catherine Tate is much better than I thought she would be (loads in fact). The squidlike Oods are back as well - wiggly fun all round :D

I'm a fairly new Doctor Who fan, but I've now seen all 'new' episodes, including Fires of Pompeii. And I have to say, I'm completely addicted now

I have to agree with what looks like the general consensus around here, that having Catherine Tate aka Donna is much better than I thought it would be.

I'm looking forward to more :bolian:

I'm not sure how many Classic Who fans are around, but I've been comparing the Ten/Donna team to the Two/Jamie team in regards to their interaction and comedic element. The difference would have to be that Donna is smarter and can match Ten's wit, whereas Two/Jamie were more physical.

Oh, and for straight up parallels? Take the lava comment in Pompei where the Doctor checks Donna's approval of his joke. Compare this to a joke made my the Doctor in "Tomb of the Cybermen", where Jamie disapproved. It's good to have that sort of relationship back, and has diminished all doubts I had about Donna as an ongoing companion.

Did anyone notice at the beginning, the Doctor said "We're in Pompeii... and it's Volcano Day"? The wording made me think of something Jack said in "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances". He was talking about "self-cleaning cons" and said: "Pompeii's good too, but you've got to set your alarm for Volcano Day". You find a lot of these references in the new episodes, like in VotD when it snows at the end, and the guy the Doctor saved said it's more likely ash from the spaceship breaking up in the atmosphere... which is just what the Doctor said to Rose in The Christmas Invasion.

Donna's has come over very nicely. This has been commented on several of the DW LJ communities about the really interesting sibling relationship RTD has going on between Donna and the Doctor. It's hysterical how Donna treats the Doctor like her super smart but idiot younger brother whom she needs to supervise in case he trips over his convies and ruins her day. But she's also there for him, like family should, to share the misery and but not allow him to spiral downwards.

Yes! Gotta LOVE the Ood. :) *pets the Ood*

I just watched Planet of the Ood. What is it with people thinking that Donna and the Doctor are married?

The preview for the next episode looks interesting :)
