"Death And The Maiden" Discussion *SPOILERS*

Some interesting posts and interpretations.
This episode had mixed results from me. I give it a solid A for character lines and especially the Greg scenes, and Doc's clapper; but as some mentioned above, I also felt the story itself was weak. The twist at the end where the stripper did it felt very contrived; I know it was just a re-enactment, but why in the world would someone rush towards a crazed woman with a gun? I would have turned and run fast; but maybe that's just me. And the brother's weird obsession with his sister's virginity? Also difficult to swallow. He was worried about his sister being hurt (because of the torn shirt), and yet he hits her?
I thought it dealt in a sensitive way with male rape. I won't pretend to know anything about it, but the reasoning leading up to it was strange and the rape itself seemed an extreme form of vengence here, especially considering that the boyfriend seemed like a pretty nice guy. Lots of weird reactions by the guest characters in this episode, so I felt kind of a disconnect, since much of it didn't make sense to me. For plot and storyline I give it a C.
I'll reserve judgement on the social worker. Too soon to tell about any sort of chemistry, especially meeting under those circumstances. And I don't think I've watched her in anything before, so I'll take a wait-and-see approach, assuming she shows up again.

Which goes to show the writers are clueless and don't know what they want the show. I'd say cancel it.

I'll elaborate on my quote. I'm saying that with Langston coming in and the rest of the characters being dumbed down, to me it's a sign the show is growing stale.

And if they are now hiring former reality show hosts and using over-used plot lines of conflict to start a romance, it's another sign the show has grown stale.

I feel that this was a riveting episode as all the ones since S/10 started. All extrodinary and all different, The writers are the best on the planet, my opinion, and this ep. brought in 15.2 million fans and beat out all contenders in the 9 pm time slot. This how is still the best crime drama on TV, and keeps fans intrigued and is still so fresh & new, and the crossover will be another blockbuster. :bolian:

The other characters weren't being dumbed down in this ep though. Greg is the one who intially solved the mystery shooter's identity, rather than Ray (as in previous episodes)... so I think this episode got that right at least. It was a nice change of pace from having Ray solve every other crime this season.

Which is why this episode soars to my favorite of the season so far. For one thing like you said the characters weren't being dumbed down for Ray being able to solve it. That was the one thing that I was the most happy about during this episode was that Greg solved the case and not Ray. Cause I swear I would have been really ticked if Ray solved the case again. So it was a really nice change and I hope the writers continue with the type of writing and screen time that we saw in this episode.

I don't find this season stale at all and I loved "Death and the Maiden." I loved Nick's compassion without him going into detail about his past. I loved Greg's humor. I didn't even mind the way the cases were tied. And, for once, I didn't guess at who the killer was.

I take it real personal when people say to cancel a show. I've said this before in a general way, but now I'm going to say it in a selfish way. Why, because you don't like a show, should my right to watch it be taken away? That's basically what's being said when somebody wants a show cancelled.

Bolding pertains to what I'm speaking about. Love that comment. I agree wholeheartedly. I often hear that *this* show needs to be canceled and *this* show needs to be canceled. Yet, they have dedicated audiences and have told fascinating stories for years (or in some cases, not so long). If it were a show that was complete trash, I would understand. But CSI still has a lot of life left in it. And I certainly don't want my right taken away from viewing it just because someone isn't happy with the way they're perceiving things on the show.

Okay so I've offended everyone. I have a right to say how I feel. If you don't like what I say, do what I do and click ignore. It's like what I do when the Republicans start to spew their crap about why there should be no universal health care in the US-I ignore them because I think they're full of it.

So I'll state this-instead of cancelling-stop givng Langston the major storylines and change the actress who plays April. She's too young and can't act. She looks more like Nick's daughter than a potential girlfriend. I don't get Hollywood's love for hiring woman are almost a decade younger than the men to play a love interest. It's typical sexism as usual and I find CSI has become more sexist than ever. Is there no reason they couldn't hire someone a tad bit older to play the role or are the writers too afraid to offend Les Moonves who married a woman young enough to be his daughter-so by god the writers on CSI must follow suit.

I have a right to be selfish as well and state what I'd like see done with the show to make it more appeasing to watch, but it could be just my tastes are changing and I'm moving on. But that doesn't mean the show shoudl be cancelled for the remainder of the viewers who enjoy it.;)

My comment wasn't aimed at you, myfuturecsi. It's in general--and for more than just this show.

Thanks..I'm just stating how I feel is all. I'm not trying to offend everyone.

My issues with CSI are pretty much with every bit of entertainment Hollywood does. Sexism towards women, particularly if they don't fall into a category of skinny, young and Play Boy beautiful. For a show that categorizes itself as progressive, it's not so much with woman as of late.

It used to be, but not so much now.

I also agree! As commented here and on the spoiler thread, this season has yet to disappoint me. There is a much better balance of character screen time this time around and sure, some of the storylines may have been a little weak, but they were anything but horrible or stale.

Of course not everyone is going to agree with the direction the show is taking. And of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But I wouldn't want my right to watch one of the few shows I really enjoy watching, to be canceled because someone disagrees with the way things are playing out. No matter what tptb do, it isn't going to please everyone.

I was actually quite pleased with Greg's involvement in this episode, as for all of them. And I hope this continues throughout the rest of the season.

That's not what I saying, but if it comes across that way then I'm sorry.

The actress is 31 years old, the character was described to be 30ish. Isn't Nick in his late 30s still? In Hollywood past 25 for a woman is considered over the hill. I'm actually glad they didn't get someone who was 23 but looked 17 which is the norm mostly in Hollywood.

I disliked the character because I didn't like her attitude and the way she spoke to Nick (talk about not making a good first impression). She came off as extremely rude and disrespectful, so thus she was the pot calling the kettle black. In saying that Nick or CSIs were disrespectful to the dead, she was being disrespectful to him by assuming that he's like all the other CSIs she'd been around.

I don't want her and Nick together because of the fact that the romantic chemistry was non-existant. If Nick's gonna have a romance then he needs someone that there is chemistry with such as Krista Allen (Kristy) or ... heck there was even a bit of chemistry with Kelly Gordon. Not that I ever would have wanted him to actually date her, but I'm just saying as an example.

But, I give this episode an A+. April was the only thing about it that I didn't like.

Camille Guaty was born in 1978 making her 31. No idea when her character, April, was born. But that should give a rough estimate.

Also, I just want to say Gigi Rice had too small of a role. Loved the episode (quite possibly my favorite from the season), but I think her character should have had a few more scenes.

Boy am I glad I'm not the only who saw chemistry between Kelly Gordon and Nick, but then it wasn't romance-based...it was more of two actors who worked very well together playing opposing characters. One a victim and the other the daughter of the victimizer.

The actress who plays April looks much younger though. I am glad they didn't put Nick with the waitress.

By the way if anyone watches True Blood the waitress is on it playing a teenager. She's a riot.:guffaw: There was one scene where somenoe asked if she was sleeping with one of the male charcters who is Nick's age and she responded, "Eww old!":guffaw: I totallly love her in that show. She's a great young actress and her talent would have been wasted on CSI!

And coincidentally, the character's boyfriend played the drunk guy who told Sara Sidle he loved her before he passed out in Rashomana!
