"Who was that on the phone Mac?"

"Eric. He's coming over to talk with us."

"About what? Is everything okay. Is it Mackenzie or our grandbabies?"

"Calm down love. He said everything was fine. Why don't we just wait and see what he has to say."

"Okay. I'll start some coffee."

Heading into the kitchen Stella heard the doorbell ring. Leaving Mac to tend to it. She started the coffee.

"Hi dad. Where's mom?"

"She's in the kitchen son. Come on in."

Walking into the den, Eric sat down as Stella entered the room.

"Hi son, how are you?"

"I'm good mom. Umm..I'm not sure where to start."

"Just take your time son. Start at the begining."

Taking a deep breath, Eric began.....

"I called to talk to my Chief this morning about this case. But before I could into detail he said he was trying to reach me. It seems the Governor called a meeting concerning the Diamond Killer."

"Diamond Killer? What the hell kind of name is that? Don't they know you never give a serial killer a name. It just makes them thrive for more attention from the Media."

"I know that dad. It seems the public has named him that. Anyways. During the meeting they discussed bringing in an outsider to take over the case."

"Whoa...hold on son. They can't do that. You are Lt. Did you inform them you wouldn't allow it?"

Mac was getting pissed. There was no way in hell he would them get away with that.

"I know they can't dad. I felt the same way about an outsider coming into our lab. Until the Chief told me who they were planning on hiring."

"Who is that son?"

"You dad. It seems the Govenor got wind of you being down in Miami. They know all about your history, cases and the caring passionate need you have for justice. They feel with your experience behind this case, it will be solved alot faster."

Mac was floored. Of all the things Eric could have told him. He would have never thought it would be this.

"Eric. I can't take your position son. Horatio left the lab in your care. He knew you could handle anything that was handed to you."

"I know that dad. But even I have to admit. I'm tired dad. I'm tired of having to hold the lab together, I'm tired of getting the heat from the higher ups. I mean Christ, we lost Natalia today, she quit. She wants to be at home with her daughter for a while. But the most important reason is that I never get enough time to spend with my girls. The trip's are so big now dad, and I'm missing each day with them. I also have no problem with you taking over dad. The way I look at it. I get more experience. Working beside you will strengthen me for when I do take over the next time. Do you understand dad?"

Inside Mac was so happy to be given this opportunity, but at the same time he felt saddened for Eric.

"Oh...and before I forget. The Chief would like mom to come work for Miami-Dade also. She'll be taking over Natalia's CSI position."

"Oh Eric. This is to much to take in. I'd be happy to work for this city, but you must be in pain. To have them think you can't handle this case is uncalled for. We've seen you in action Eric. We know you are very capable of handling any case. I really think you need to fight them son. Let them know that you say no."

"I have to agree Eric. This is your lab, and you are more then capable of running it."

Eric knew they would be stubborn about it, and he was really hoping he wouldn't have to threaten them into it. But by the looks of it, he was going to have too.

"Listen....this is going to work one of two ways. Either you take over the lab dad, or I give it to an outsider. Which means your team, along with mine will be working under someone who won't tolerate the way we handle our crime scenes, or evidence. Anyways, I have to get back. Let me know of your decision before lunch."

Deep down Mac knew Eric was right. If an outsider did come in, he wouldn't understand the team at all.

"Okay son. Tell the Chief we accept."

"Good. Be at Miami-dade in a few hours. I'll have your bagdes and weapons ready for you. Plus it will give me enough time to clean out your office dad."

"Eric....I will not take Horatio's office. That is yours. I'm sorry I can't do that."

"Like I said before dad. It's either you, or an outsider. I'll see you both in a few hours."

Kissing his mom on the cheek, he left.

"Oh Mac. As happy as I am to be back in the field. I can't help but feel for Eric."

"I know love. But he'll be fine. The sad part is, I understand his need for wanting to spend more time with his girls. We've both noticed how stressed he has been lately. We owe Horatio this love. For I know in no way would he accept an outsider taking over his team, or his lab."

"Okay Mac. I need to call Mackenzie and see if she'll look after Michelle."

"You do that love. I'm just going to make a visit to Horatio and Calleigh's grave."

Nodding her head she understood. Mac kissed her passionately before he left.

When Eric got back to the lab, Danny ran up to him.

"Eric...the Chief is in your office."

"He's here already? I just called him five minutes ago."

"He must have been hanging around. Listen is it true that someone new is coming in to take over the lab, as well as us?"

"It is Danny. You'll meet your new boss soon, along with the new CSI who will be taking Nat's place."

"Christ Eric. What's going to happen to you?"

"I'll become lead CSI. Which I'm okay with."

"You're okay with someone coming here, and taking over Horatio's lab."

"Danny. Do you trust me?"

"Of course. I would not not trust you."

"Good. Then trust me when I say. Don't worry."

"Okay. Fine man. I'll see you later."

Storming off, Danny went to find Flack.

Entering his office, Eric found the Chief looking out the window.

"George."

"Oh...hello Eric. How are you?"

"I'm okay. Mac and Stella should be here within the hour."

"Great. It will be nice to finally meet them."

As the Chief watched Eric pack his stuff, he began to help.

"Eric...are you sure you are okay with this?"

"I'm positive George. Do you have my new badge and ID."

"I do. Here you go. First Grade CSI. Right under Mac."

"Thanks."

"Eric, you know you will get your lab back, and your team in a few years."

"I know that George. I'll also have more experience behind me. Trust me, this is for the best. Plus I'll have more time to spend with my family."

"That's true. How about you, your wife and children come over next thursday. We'll have a BBQ."

"Sounds great. Mackenzie would like that. Plus it's been a while since I've seen Judy and the kids."

"Thursday it is then."

Continuing to pack. Eric could already feel the weight being lifted off his shoulders.

The Caine's Resting Place

As Mac neared their grave. He could see how nicely kept it was. Beautiful flowers the team dropped off each week, and not a weed near or around their headstones.

Bending down on one knee. Mac placed two red roses. One on Horatio's side, and one on Calleigh's. Then bending his head he said a prayer for them.

Getting back up, he promised Horatio and Calleigh that he would take good care of their team, and of their lab. Heading back to his car, he got in and headed home to pick up Stella.

Miami-Dade Crime Lab

Everyone was sitting in the breakroom, waiting to meet their new replacement and CSI.

"I don't know Don. I just don't like this. Having someone new come in here and start ordering us around. We've been handling things fine. I just don't think it's right to bring in someone who doesn't understand how things are done here."

"Calm down Danny. I'm sure Eric knows what he is doing. Trust in that."

"I don't know. How do you feel about it Adam and Valera?"

"Kind of the same way you do. We have a specific way we handle things. To have someone come in and tell us to change, isn't going to be easy."

"What about you Sheldon. How are you going to feel having someone come into your area and tell you to change something they don't like?"

"I'm a Coroner again Danny. There isn't much to change."

"Lucky you."

Looking out into the hall, Danny seen Mac and Stella coming down the hall.

"Hmm..Mac and Stella are here. They're going into Eric's office."

"Knowing Eric he most likely told them what's going down, and they are here to defend him."

"Good point Don. Well...it shouldn't be long now."

As they waited on pins and needles. Danny paced the floor.

Thanks for the awesome reviews guys.:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Still pacing the floor, Danny seen the Chief walk out of Eric's office.
"Damn!! Here we go guys. The Chief just left."
Everyone stood up, and peeked out the breakroom. As they stood in the hall they seen Eric, followed by Mac and Stella.
"Here they come. Oh God, I'm nervous now."
"Calm down Valera. It's going to be fine."
"Fine!!! Not more then two seconds ago, you were putting tunnels in the floor."
"Eric....well. What happened?"
"Relax Danny. I'd like to introduce you all to Lt.Mac Taylor, and CSI Stella Taylor."
Everyone stared in shock. As the silence could be heard throughout the lab.
"Well....don't you all have something to say?" Laughed Eric.
Danny was the first to move. As he walked up and embraced Mac tightly.
"Ohhhh...welcome back boss. Damn this is the greatest. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
Cried Danny with tears.
"Okay Danny. You can let go now."
"Yeah right, sorry. Stel...welcome back to you too partner."
Stella wasn't at all surprised to see Danny with tears in his eyes. For Danny was always very sensitive when it came to those he cared about.
"Thanks Danny. It feels great to be back."
"Mac...I'm surprised. I thought we'd never work together again."
"I did to Don. Thanks. It's great to be back."
"Welcome back Mac, said Sheldon as he embraced Stella. Good to have you back to Stella."
"Thanks Sheldon. It feels wonderful to carry a badge again. I've really missed this."
After everyone spent some time getting over the excitement. Eric took Mac and Stella to meet the rest of the Miami team.
Meanwhile.....
He was looking for his next victim again. He had to admit, he loved the name the Media had given him. He felt it was very appropriate for his line of work.
Watching from his car he knew his chances of finding young girls now was going to be alot harder. For the news had warned young girls to travel in pairs and stay in well lit areas, with people around.
Getting bored with waiting. He headed down to the beach. Parking the car, he seen two young girls walking out of the washroom.
"Shoot Laura. I forgot my suntan lotion."
"Well hurry up Carrie. I'll meet you on the beach."
Leaving her friend alone. He now seen his opportunity to grab her. Leaning over his car door, he began moaning as the young girl came out of the washroom.
"Are you okay Mister?" Do you need some help?"
"Yes. Please, my foot is stuck. I need some help."
Running over, she neared the drivers side as he pulled her into the car. Knocking her cold with his fist, he pulled onto the road, leaving her suntan lotion behind.
