Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

Real CSi's don't do a lot of the things they do on the show it never has been that realistic because i think Catherine's relationship with Sam would have caused questions and how was there no repercussions when she used the lab to test if Sam was her father and so caused the murder trial against him to be thrown out of court, nothing was ever said by her superiors.
don't get me wrong i love the show an all the actors :)

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

The shows dynamics changed totally at the end of S6 - it became less about the cases and more about the characters. S7 was ust reheating old cases all together and ending in the copy of all copies of the S5 ender that pulled in many new viewers.

Yes, the minute a relationship between two main characters entered the scene - CSI jumped the shark. And that was because the writers took focus off the crime-solving and put it upon the characters. The cases are now filled with plotholes, like the writers arent even trying to be consistent since they can rely on the soap-factor. And watching the first spolers for S8 - it seems to get worse and worse.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

I don't think this is a 'jump the shark' issue and I don't think the dynamics of the show have changed. After watching and rewatching all the episodes from season 1 thru season 7, it is clear that the GSR storyline has been evolving from the start. The only difference is that now some of their scenes together include dialogue of an intimate relationship. I think the 'conclusion' of the Grissom/Sara relationship has been planned for some time and that the MK storyline gives the writers a dramatic way to handle it.
I am not a 'shipper'(I didn't even know what the term meant til 2 months ago), but I do hope that after 7 years of developing this relationship that the writers give them a happy 'ending'. I like seeing the crime storylines as well as the character development. I think the writers have done a great job of balancing these. That said, I think I watch regularly because I like the characters as opposed to other shows that I might only watch occasionly.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

I think the cases were quite unique this year with the miniature killer, the boxer Happy who died after so much stuff happening to him, the woman who was crucified, Fannysmakin', the twin sisters, the mobster episode, the whole reverse forensic's thing, plus the whole Keppler storyline, the lab rat ep, and the UFO episode.

All of these storylines were fresh and the other episodes that had been done before had unique touches that made them different from seasons past.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

The name of this thread caught my attention. And yes, it does seem GSR oriented, but it says Miniature Killer and Sara in Peril. Those aren't shipper things.

Anyway, IMO, CSI hasn't jumped the shark. Didn't you all enjoy watching this season? Didn't you think the MCSK story was exciting? It was intense. It had everyone trying to put together the puzzle themselves, and that's what I think CSI is all about. That's what got me into the show in the first place. Gathering clues. I will agree with S Bright. Some of the cases arent as intiguing, but I loved most of them.

So fine, the characters had a little more camera time then in previous seasons, but it's TV. There are charcters. They have feelings. If it was different, they would have hired robots to play the parts of Grissom, Sara, Catherine, Greg, Nick, Warrick, etc.

Season 7 was dark but it almost brought the 1st season animation back to some characters.

Now, if I wanted to watch a show without the emotional drama of characters, I would watch 48 hours.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

Uniquely filled with plotholes

And they were all too over the top and melodramatic, like they should be in a soap. But interesting? No way, they mostly irritated me with the stupid inconsistencies that made the CSIs look like amateurs. I mean not checking out who sold miniatures and related items after the first MSCK, and not checking the firms capable of micro-printing and asking for a list of customers? Amateurs.

And Cath - a seasoned CSI getting herself conned to drink a drink with roofies? That's just incredibly soapish.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

But again - Catherine and Greg and Nick and Grissom all went on dates in the first season.

True, but not with each other, and that makes a huge difference. They weren't "office trolling."

Dating inside the office = bad. Outside good.

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

i have to admit though, CSI las vegas looks like it has jumped the shark as much as the other CSIs. i dont watch them religously, but from the pics i've seen of the couples on those shows, looks like they've done much worse then CSI: lv.

but, i'm not saying csi isn't heading there....

While the title is understood, what I believe TallyHo is asking is, is this going to be a mostly ship type of conversation and if that is what the orginial poster intended or if as the title suggests a discussion from beginning of MSK to cliffhanger.

Its not hard to understand since pretty much all thats been discussed is the ship and not so much the other part of all this. We both need to know when its gone more one way then staying on even keel of balance. I am pretty sure Tally will explain further if I missed anything. ;)

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

Just read that the Canadian CTV had plucked CSI off their 9 PM lot and given it to GA. Way to go CSI - less viewers will do this to you. Way to go *g*

Re: GSR, Miniature Killer, Sara in Peril: Jumping the Shark

Bummer - will CSI be available in Canada at all? Did they just move it to a different time slot?

CSI is consistently getting more viewers than Grey's Anatomy and is usually the number one show on Canadian TV. 8 is actually a much less competative time and will probably give CSI even more viewers.

I'm beginning to think so myself i.e. this thread should be in Shipper Central.

Is GSR the issue here? If it is then I'll be locking this thread as there is already a GSR thread in Shipper Central. Can the person that originated this thread, please clarify the position?

Thank you.

First off, let me say this: I started this thread specifically to get the speculation about the future of CSI structure and characters out of the season 8 spoiler thread. I think many people want to talk about the potential implicated of how this all turns out.

it isn't a GSR thread in the "I am happy they are a couple" or "I wish they where broken up", I have never really given a hoot about that and I leave that stuff to the shippers.

The idea of this thead really is "What are the implications of what the MK has exposed, and will the outcome of this essentially make the show junp the shark?".

Will Grissom be demoted? Will Sara come back? Will Cathering become supervisor again? Will Eckley try to clamp down and instead get caught with his own hand int he cookie jar?

If the writers ignore the situation and treat it in the same way they ended Greg's lawsuit deal ("oh yeah, the county settled") then it will be a major shark jump moment, IMHO.

It isn't anything about GSR, except that GSR is the trigger for circumstance.

if you feel the overwhelming urge to lock threads to stop people talking about potential character developments and the implications of office romance on the other characters of the show, be my guest. I was just trying to keep from getting Destiny in a huff because the spoiler thread was getting, well, spoiled.
