OK, so this is a little problem for me, because I know too little about the other ships to write enjoyable ff's. But I'm willing to do a critique any time. So if someone wants to write a story, but can't write a critique, I'm your man ... ah, woman. :D
 
I'm really bad with the other fandoms too. Please try... :D if you CAN'T do it then go for it with your ship of choice, I guess. Just please try to write something unique that we've never seen before.

Or... could you try another ship from your same show? I'm not saying you have to jump shows... just characters? It's supposed to be challenging.

I'm doing a Danny centric story from NY... it probably won't be amazing but I'm going to try.

Anything is welcome and I promise we'll all consider that this is out of your element (as it will be for all of us) when we're critiquing.

I'm perfectly okay with you bending the rules and writing for you OTP if you can't do it for anyone else... I don't want you to feel like you can't participate just because you don't know the other shows.

OK, I'll go think some more on whom I could write on. It's just that on Miami I can't do other couples. NY I barely get to watch and that leaves me with Catherine and well ... someone. I'm gonna see what youtube has got to offer, maybe it can ignite a spark. I'll let you know.

Oh, and theoretically, should we get our beta's to have a look before posting, or better not?
 
You don't have to pair Catherine, or anyone else, with anyone. Just because its a valentines fic doesn't mean it has to be happy. I don't have a date this year... perhaps there is a CSI that doesn't either?

Feel free to make up an OC to put with Catherine if you want. I ran it (the challenge) by my friend and she suggested to me that people will probably do an OC and she said that if she was going to participate she'd totally use an OC. So... feel free to do that if it is easier.

If not... just do what you have to. I'm not going to banish you if you write with the pairing you're most comfortable with. I really wrote that particular point of the challenge so that I'd force myself to step out of my comfort zone.

And... I think it depends on who your beta is! Jodie is my beta so I'll be submitting my work totally uncheked. I MIGHT have a friend look over it... but since my beta is a member of this group it won't be officially beta'd. I'd say that you're welcome to send it to your beta if you want though.

Feel free to ask any other questions...

Oh, wait, no it's not. I'm actually enjoying writing for a ship I've never done before. It's a ship I've always liked, always, but I've never written for it.

No beta-ing? Haha, means I can my get psych essay done on time :lol:.

I can't wait to see what everyone writes! I'm so excited. I'm still in the planning/research phase of my story but I think I'm going to pound out a rough draft by this evening. Then I was thinking of going around on these boards and asking people who are obviously fans of my "subject of choice" and asking them to read it over just to let me know if I'm OOC. We'll see how that works for me.

Jodie... I've got the next chapter of TFA about 80% done and I was wondering if you could beta it when I'm finished? It won't be too soon because I still have to finish my website for my other fic, finish the other fic, pre-plan for the sequel (which I'm being forced to write) and then work on my "onshot" series to paralell that fic. Buut the thing I'm most worried about finishing on time is my website.

Anyone good at writing mini-bios? What about HTML? We should talk if you are...

I'm really excited about this fic though. It's going to be good, I think.

Sure I can beta, no problem at all. Now that I'm not doing my med course anymore, I have a lot more free time (for now). :)

Okay's this may seem like a stupid question but can I write a character that I've written before if I write them in a ship I've never written before.

I won't be able to do NY or Vegas, so I need to stick with Miami, but I already have an idea and I just wanted to know if that's alright. :)

It's not a big deal in a bad way :) I really quite like it. It's pushing us to our limits and in the end we'll all end up better writers for the experience and that is the goal of this group. I know that I personally am stuck in such a rote of writing two particular characters that I feel I can't even write others into a story because I can't get the characterisation right, I think this challenge is great for opening up everyone's abilities. This challenge idea was really original too :)

Lol, it is hard--I'm crawling inside Grissom's head for the first time, and it's really tough going, but I'm excited about the prospect of my little fic. I normally write for NY and Miami, so Vegas is quite the challenge for me, but it isn't something I would have ever done if left to my own devices. It might not be something I'll ever do again, either :lol: but I'm having fun trying! And I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with :D

I have 4 out of 5 terms under my belt too. I think it may be a tad over 1,500 words *meep* I can't help it, I've had mental diaharrea today to put it bluntly hehe.
 
It's okay! The last challenge I went over the word limit, too. And it's not like we're going to check. Besides I'm far enough under (which is totally weird coming from me) that you can just have my extra space.

I can't wait to start getting PM's with people's fics.
