Thanks Redhot I know what it's like for you except I only have one job. FYI the one in cainesugar's banner is Ryan from 'Nailed' when he got shot in the eye. I think if this was how s5 finale was to have gone, it would have been left as a cliffhanger. Not like this with HOratio being found. But thanks anyways guys.
And cainesugar nice avatar of Harry.
Yelina fell asleep uncomfortably at Horatio's side, his hand still resting in hers. She woke when the morning shift nurse came in to change his IVs. She lifted her head from the bed to look at him. He was deeply asleep from the medications. She stroked his cheek.
"Why don't you go home, get some rest. He's stable. We'll call if anything changes." The nurse offered. It was tempting. Yelina still had mud on her jeans and boots from the previous day in the Everglades. A hot shower seemed very welcome. And she needed to check on Ray Jr.
"I'll be back soon." Yelina said, taking the nurse's offer.
-------------------------
Yelina got home, and immediately jumped into the shower. She peeled off her soiled clothings and let the hot shower massgae the tension from her shoulders. Her thoughts wondered back to Horatio. She knew she couldn't kid anybody. Her feelings for him remained, as did his for her. What he'd tried to tell her the previous night, she wanted to tell him too. She had almost lost him, and the thought scared her.
She emerged from the shower feeling fresh and energised. It was the weekend, and Ray had surprisingly stayed home, waiting on news about his uncle. She sat down with her son wanting to spend a little time with him before she hurried off to the hospital again. She was interupted by the ringing of her cellphone. It was the nurse from the hospital. Horatio had taken a turn for the worse, and they had transferred him to the ICU.
Yelina's heart thumped wildly in her throat as she raced down the highway to the hospital. Ray had insisted on coming along.
Outside Horatio's ICU room the doctor explained that his blood pressure had dropped dangerously low, and he was septic. The wound from the metal stick had got infected. They hoped the antibiotics would work, otherwise he might need surgery again.
Yelina and Ray entered Horatio's room. He looked the same, except he had more wires and monitors hooked up to him now. He was drowsy but awake.
"Hey Uncle Horatio." Ray greeted him.
"Hey buddy." Horatio's voice sounded weak. "Good to see you."
"You survived a plane crash. Pretty cool." Ray said.
Horatio gave a weak smile. "I wouldn't encourage you to try it."
"Ray, I'd like to talk to your uncle alone." Yelina said, placing a hand on her son's shoulder.
Ray nodded. "I'll go get something to eat from the cafeteria. Feel better Uncle Horatio."
Horatio nodded and they waited for Ray to leave. Yelina placed a hand on Horatio's forehead, brushing his hair aside.
"You're burning up." Yelina remarked. His skin was hot to touch.
"Hot for you." He smiled.
Yelina blushed and lowered her eyes. "Horatio - "
"Yelina - " They both said each other's names at the same time. A small laugh broke the tension.
"Ladies first." Horatio said as he reached for her hand.
She clasped his hand in hers, then sat down slowly beside him on the bed.
"Horatio, I know what you're gonna say. I care for you very much too. When I heard your plane had gone down... I didn't know what to think. I'm terrfied of losing you. You mean alot to me...." She paused letting what she had just said sink in. His blue eyes studied hers intensly.
"I need you to concentrate on getting better. Without you, there'd be no 'us'. I need you to be better first, then we can talk more about this." Yelina sighed. She had hinted of their future together.
"I'd like there to be an 'us'." Horatio said. He squeezed her hand. "I thought I'd never get the chance at that with you... when the plane went down."
Yelina bent over and kissed him. Her tears wet his face. His lips were dry, and she kissed him tenderly. Her soft curls brushed his face as she broke the kiss. He reached a palm to her face, wiping the tears away with his thumb. His head spinned, he wasn't sure if it was the effects of his illness or the kiss, or maybe both.
Yelina managed a smile. "I'll go ask the nurse for some ice chips, maybe we can bring your temperature down."
Yelina left the room. The fever raged inside Horatio, but he smiled. Now a future with her seemed a very good possibilty.
