Character Development/Screentime Discussion

I like how the writers handled Cath/Vartann. It's subtle yet you know it's happening - a single scene on 'Better of Dead', lots on 'Panty Sniffer', and a scene on 'Meat Jekyll.' When did Cath have her last love interest? Season 1 maybe, the urban planner? I'm not sure. Or the character played by her former husband, but it's too quick. But at least the writers decided to give her love. Better late than never! :) Her life was on the rocks during season 7 premiere. 'Built To Kill' was just heart-breaking for Catherine. Glad she survived.

If they can do it with Cath, they can do it with the rest of the team members too. Not always love - any interesting story will do. It's always good to know that they are having a good life outside work!

I agree. The Cath/Vartann relationship has been handled wonderfully by the writers. A little subtle flirting here and there and the rest is left to the imagination. Well done on that. I really like these two characters together and it's a nice development for the character of Catherine-to finally find love after all these years with a steadfast guy like Vartann--at least I hope they keep him that way.

And they are about of the same age unlike with other shows where the age gap is high!

I wonder what will happen if the inevitable departure of Catherine comes soon (I'm preparing myself since Marg seems to be tired of the role and ready to move on). There will be no female lead since they offed Wendy and Sara's stay is still up in the air. I don't think CSI will end next season so that means they are ready to hire a new actress to play opposite Nick.

I read that Rumour Rat recently said that CBS had given the thumbs up for two more seasons of CSI:Crime Scene Investigation. That was in March, I think? Hopefully it's true...

I would also like to see Sara more. I know she hasn't been my favorite as of late, but I think season 10 did a lot for her. Seeing her as the lead on a case would also be good. Knowing she can do it without Grissom is even better. ;) And again, more female blood in the cast.

I agree - I hated her when she left, but she's SO much better now that she's all well-adjusted and happily married. I love her relationship (friendship/professional) with Nick. I always liked her for being the "tough girl" - stripping cars and stuff. I hope she stays on, especially having lost so much of the other female presence on the show.

Sara has always been in tune with all her guys on CSI, Nick, Greg, Brass, Doc all the LabRats, Super Dave "I missed you face" she even has a sort of cool thing with Icky Ecklie, and now with Dr. Langston, there awesome working together, so bonded. I sure do hope she decides to sign on for S/11, this is close to the wire, if they start filming in July and were at the end of June, come on CBS let us know who's going to be on in S/11:confused:

Just a thought, if (and I emphasise on the word 'if' here so nobody kill me) Marg leaves, TPTB can bring back Riley. I actually liked Riley a lot and she had great synergy with Greg, Al, and even Catherine. It was a pity that her character was discarded just after one season and lost in the shuffle of finding a place for Langston.

If Catherine exits, and seeing that Riley's main reason for leaving the LVPD has gone, it's an opening for her to return. Of course, that can also lead to a bit of friction, but it's good material that TPTB can work on--that is if they want to go in that direction. I really rather not have another new female character introduced since we went through quite a few already: Mia, Wendy, Ronnie, Riley, Sofia, and most of them were written off without a solid storyline for it.

Speaking of Sofia, can she come back now since NCIS: LA decided not to have her around?

I would totally love to see either Sofia or Riley come back. I think it might be harder for Riley - the actress herself may not want to - but I think Sofia could easily fit back in. She always seemed to have a strong character and would easily be able to hod her own against the many males in the show. And she could be either a detective or a CSI.

I hardly think the writers or CBS will bring back to former CSI's who were let go. I guess they had some type of fan base, but in the big picture they must not have, or they'd still be on the show. Louise lives in Britain anyway and Lauren in Canada, and what they did to her was a burn so, I wouldn't think she'd want to come back under any circumstances, I sure wouldn't. If they do decide to bring in a new female in it would probably be someone new. I liked the character Ronnie, although she was kind of a ditz, and bugged Sara, she was learning and very enthusiast pertaining to her job~

I agree that Lauren would not come back. She was burned. But do we know the circumstances behind Louise's departure? I heard it was a voluntary thing as she wanted to spend more time with her family. For all we know, she could be welcomed back at any time. As for the living in England thing, several actors have done a duel habitation for shows. Hugh Laurie of House comes to mind - he lives in the States while filming than returns to England during the hiatus.

Ah well, wishful thinking. Though what really happened between LLS and Louise Lombard (or Liz Vassey in this case) with TPTB will be a mystery to us, other than what's written online and in the tabloids. Though I do feel that LLS' character Riley had quite a fanbase, due to the work she did prior to CSI--just maybe not the kind of US fanbase that counts. =)

At the end of the day, I'm just not to keen with yet another new character for us to adjust with after so many they've had and let go.

Here's a thought, the great shows "Without A Trace" and "Cold Case" have been cancelled, and two kick-a.. women Poppy Montgomery and Kathryn Morris might be available, they're both incredible, strong actresses and would be a great asset to CSI. I don't think they'll bring back women who've already been here and then gone, with the exception of Jorja Fox, she had a hugh fan base and the fans who loved her wrote mega letters for her to return..and she did~:bolian:

hmm....interesting idea

Well, they brought in Enrique Murciano form "WOAT" in "Coup de Grace" as Det. Murano so if these other stars from big hit shows are available why not?

I like to see AJ Cook on CSI! It's official, she'll be doing only two episodes of Criminal Minds next season. :( I hope CSI will hire her in the future in case they need a new female lead/supporting role. I think she'll fit in the show.

I don't care if it's a newbie or an old character, I just want to see some femininity added to the show! I mean now it seems that there's only going to be three females left on the show: Catherine, who's inevitable departure seems to be coming close, Sara, who's contract is still up in the air, and Mandy, who although is only secondary cast has always been to me an amazing character and actress with little room to flex her acting muscles. I don't see why tptb are having such a problem having a female touch to a show, and for that matter having Marg as the lead instead of Fishburne; Angela's Eyes and Star Trek Voyager seemed to have no problem with a female lead, so why can't CSI take a leaf out their book?

Even though I'm not too fond of her I'm hoping that tptb at least give Wendy a good write-off, as opposed to every other female character on the show who's been kicked off with no reason for it...

We don't know yet what they've got up their sleeves, I sure hope it's soon, and on "leads" on CSI/Miami the lead is Horatio, on CSI/NY Mac is the lead, they do have more than one female but it seem that Calleigh is mainly in it, and it survives. One NY it's mainly Stella, & it does well, so on Vegas, the lead is Langston, [w/ Catherine mainly in it & the other team members sharing screen time], and he's the lead, as on the other shows, a male. That's why he was hired, Remember Grissom? he was front and center and now he's gone, so we've got Ray, and he's doing a superb job. Maybe we've all jumped to conclusions. I think that Marg and Jorja will return, and to my knowledge what else do they have going on career wise? Now maybe they do have other offers, we'll soon find out:confused:
