She's a Mother: Cobie Smulders Welcomes Baby Girl
Jul 3, 2009 02:10 PM ET
by Matt Mitovich

Shaelyn Cado Killam has met her mother — and it's actress Cobie Smulders.

Smulders, a star of CBS' How I Met Your Mother, gave birth to her daughter on May 16, People reports. It is the first child for Smulders and her fiancé Taran Killam.

Smulders announced her pregnancy in November, and got engaged to Killam in January.

Smulders' pregnancy significantly overlapped with that of Mother costar Alyson Hannigan (who gave birth to a daughter of her own on March 24). The CBS sitcom valiantly — and in some cases very cleverly — worked around the actresses' pregnancies.

Mother even shot its May season finale over the winter, so as to be sure to include their characters of Robin and Lily.

The 77-year-old DJ told "American Top 20" listeners across the country Saturday that the program would be his last.

Kasem launched his weekly countdown of the nation's most popular songs, the "American Top 40," on July 4, 1970. Ryan Seacrest took over the show in 2004, and Kasem went on to host two syndicated spinoffs, the "American Top 20" and "American Top 10."

Kasem said he "loved every minute" of his broadcasting career, but that he was leaving the show to "free up time I need to focus on myriad other projects."

"Charts are changing, stations are changing, the networks are changing, radio itself is changing, and I think, you know, the pendulum swings back and forth," his wife Jeannie Kasem told ABC News." You just have to be willing to jump ship and try something new."

FILM "NOWHERE BOY" DEPICTS TEENAGER JOHN LENNON

Kristin Scott Thomas is placing white roses on a grave when a teenager comes up from behind. The teenager is John Lennon, and Scott Thomas plays his Aunt Mimi, who took the boy in when his mother wandered off. 'I should move out", Lennon says. "That's just silly", Aunt Mimi replies. "No, no, it's not the Beatle to be says. "It's time to let go" Filming has completed on the Lennon biopic, "Nowhere Boy", set for release later this year or in 2010. The graveyard scene was shot in St. Pancras Cemetary in North London. Aaron Johnson, 19, plays Lennon. "Nowhere Boy" is the debut feature by visual artist Sam Taylor-Wood, whose short film "Love You More" was an award nominee in it's category at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Harvey Weinstein's Weinstein Co. has bought U.S. German and Latin American rights. "It was the script that drew me to this project, says Taylor-Wood, who steers the shoot from a monitor sheltered by a black unbrella. "One of the things that I loved about it was that it didn't need to mention the Beatles, as that's a well-noted history". The movie's focus is on Lennon from age 15-17, when his banjo playing mom reappears and transmits her love of music. Lennon later forms the Quarrymen with Paul McCartney, who lived around the corner. 'We're capturing a moment in time, an epiphany which led to Johm Lennon becomming a rock star" says production company Ecosse's founder Douglas Rae. "Without his mother giving him music, you wouldn't have had John Lennon. The graveyard scene is shot on a rainy morning. A white polystyrene screen is parked among the graves to reflect light on the actors faces: the camera is covered with a sheet of plastic. 'And "ACTION" shouts the 1st assistant. Scott Thomas, dressed '50's style' kneels over a marked grave, a scarf knotted under her chin. She wears a black coat over a flannel shirt, and dark red lipstick. The 49-yr.-old actress brings poise and contained emotion to her part. She pauses between lines, and looks deeply pained when Lennon announces his departure. Yet, her concentration is repeatedly broken by planes flying over London. According to rae, Ecosse Films--producers of the scar nominated "Mrs Brown' [1997] got interested when a book by Lennon's half-sister Julia Barid landed on their desk. Taylor-Wood was picked for her 2008 Cannes nomination and for her training with the late Anthony Minghella, director of "The English Patient". The film was shot on location in Liverpool and Blackpool. Other exterior shots wer done in London. The interior of Aunt Mimi's house was recreated at London's Ealing Studios via a series of partitions put up in a giant warehouse. The place was decorated with palm-leaf wallpaper, frilly lampshades, a tatty sofa and an old-fashioned radio set. That's where actor Johnson and Annne-Marie Duff who plays Lennon's mother act in a scene wher she borrows his harmonica. "do you mind"?, She asks "your spit's my spit anyway~

SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY knighted another New York Mets ballpark Friday night, playing the first concert ever at Citi Field. "Long time since I've been here" the former Beatle [he was a Beatle:rolleyes:] said, then paused to take it all in. Citi Field is the successor to Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a historic concert in 1965 that's regarded as the precusor to the stadium rock concert. Patty Parker attended Friday's night show, and remembers the 1965 show well. "I was 3 rows from the top and I was 10 years old", she said "He captured the same theme. I'm so happy and so blown away" [AMEN] Several times on Friday, McCartney alluded to that magical night 44 years:wtf: ago. But he also made it clear that it was less than perfect at time saying "The first time we played here, we couldn't hear a thing cause' all the girls screaming and the archaic sound system" Friday's two-and-a-half hour show went more smoothly, highlighted by fireworks on and off stage for "Live And Let Die" near the show's end. he also played the Beatles classics "Hey Jude" "Let It Be" and "Back In The USSR". FOr his encore, McCartney brought out Billy Joel for "I Saw Her Standing There" Last year, McCartney joined Joel on stage for the last concert at Shea Stadium~[I'd loved to have been there]

Burn Notice's Jeffrey Donovan Arrested for DUI

Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan was arrested for DUI in Miami Beach after almost hitting a stopped police car, according to the police report.

Donovan was arrested in the early hours of July 12 after failing field sobriety tests. The actor refused a Breathalyzer test, according to the police report.

The arresting officer was stopped at a red light when he "heard a loud tire screech" and observed Donovan's vehicle swerving to the left to avoid striking the rear of the police cruiser, the report said. When the officer approached Donovan, the actor said, "Sorry, I didn't see the red light or your stopped car," according to the report.

The report said Donovan told police he had three drinks and said while being transported to the Miami Beach Police Department, "I really think I'm only borderline and not too drunk... The only mistake I made tonight was drinking Benadryl with 3 glasses of wine."

Donovan was booked at the Miami-Dade County Jail and released at 9:42 a.m. on $1,000 bond, according to an employee at the facility. A rep for the actor didn't immediately respond to TVGuide.com's request for comment.

BIG LETTERMAN WIN IN LATE-NIGHT

New York--There could be a new king emerging in late night television. David Letterman's CBS "Late Night Show" whipped NBC's "Tonight" show in the ratings during the 1st week in July, by nearly 800,000 viewers, according to the Nielsen Media Research. Letterman generally lost the "Tonight" show when Jay Leno was the host, and he hasn't had this big a victory margin since returning from heart surgery in 2000. A late-night generation gap also appears to be emerging:the median age of O'Brien's audience last week was mmore than 10 years younger, than Letterman's. NBC says that's good news, since advertisers pay a preminum to reach a younger audience. In the 18-19 year-old age demographic for which NBC sells advertising , O'Brien won each night last week. NBC said. Still, Letterman has won two of the last 3 weeks among all viewers during which both men competed with original programming. And the "Late Show" recieved another boost last Wednesday with the attention getting appearance of Paul McCartney. "We feel we've got the mometum going for us right now, and we feel very confident" said David Poltrack, CBS's chief researcher. Last week Letterman averaged 3.68 milliion viewers compared to O'Brien's 2.82 million, stated Nielsen~

Brooks & Dunn call it quits after 20 years
Aug 10, 7:57 PM (ET)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Brooks & Dunn are done.

The best-selling country duo posted a message on its Web site Monday
saying they've agreed to "call it a day" after 20 years of making music
together.

"This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed
... We owe it all to you, the fans," Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn said in
the message. "If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time."

Brooks & Dunn will release a greatest-hits album on Sept. 8 and tour one
last time in 2010.

The duo's many hits include "Boot Scootin' Boogie,""My Maria,""Red Dirt
Road" and "Cowgirls Don't Cry" with Reba McEntire.

Their label, Arista Nashville, said the group has sold more than 30
million albums.

Brooks, 54, and Dunn, 56, were struggling solo artists when Arista's Tim
DuBois urged them to join forces in 1990. Together they've scored 23 No. 1
hits.

They've recorded 10 studio albums, the latest 2007's "Cowboy Town."

The pair steeped themselves in the mythical West (their emblem is a
sun-bleached steer's skull) and rode the charts with a driving honky-tonk
sound. They took a turn with 2003's "Red Dirt Road" and often pay homage
to their classic rock influences, including playing shows with the Rolling
Stones and ZZ Top.

Brooks & Dunn won the Country Music Association's vocal duo of the year
award every year between 1992 and 2006, except for 2000.

The CMA named them entertainer of the year in 1996.
