Baseball #2

HOLY..... The Tribe was down 10-0, then 10-2, and THEN had a they came back to beat the rays 11-10 with a 7 run 9th.   Then to top that off, Jeremy Sowers recalled from AAA who left with a 12.00 ERA, goes into the bullpen (will explain why) came out and got 5 innings of SCORELESS relief and lowered his ERA to 7.71. :wtf:

Okay Medical updates on the tribe.. umm there are a few..
Anthony Reyes' chronic right elbow problem appears bound for surgical adjustment that would end his season.
Reyes' elbow was examined Monday by team physician Dr. Mark Schickendantz, who has diagnosed Reyes with ulnar neuritis and recommended that Reyes receive an ulnar nerve transposition.
Reyes will visit specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles later this week to get a second opinion. If the surgery is performed, the recovery period is between four to six months, according to head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff.
Other medical updates today:
Aaron Laffey will be out four to six weeks with his right oblique strain.
Travis Hafner (sore right shoulder) was pulled from his rehab assignment after three at-bats yesterday because of tightness in his back. It is not considered serious. Hafner will take BP here at Progressive Field on Tuesday and Wednesday and return to Columbus to resume his rehab assignment later this week.
Joe Smith (strained right rotator cuff) threw a 40-pitch bullpen today and will throw a live batting practice session here Wednesday. He could go out on rehab by the end of the week.
Jake Westbrook (Tommy John surgery) will advance to three innings or 50 pitches in his next extended spring outing this week. He will likely go out on rehab assignment the first week of June and will probably make four or five starts in the Minors before he's ready to rejoin the Tribe.

Sowers was suppost to take over for Reyes, either Wed, or Thur, now that is up in the air because of tonight.

GO Tribe & Jays!!!!

Okay I have to double post only because this is so typical and funny at the sametime it deserves its own post. Cubs' Bradley: Umpires retaliating

Chicago Cubs right fielder Milton Bradley lashed out at Major League Baseball's umpires Sunday, saying they are forcing him to swing at bad pitches by widening his strike zone.

Bradley, suspended one game last month after an argument with umpire Larry Vanover, said he thought other umps were getting back at him for the incident.

"Unfortunately, I just think it's a lot of 'Oh, you did this to my colleague,' or 'We're going to get him any time we can,'" Bradley said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "'As soon as he gets two strikes, we're going to call whatever and see what he does. Let's try to ruin Milton Bradley.'

"It's just unfortunate. But I'm going to come out on top. I always do."

Bradley said his hitting strategy would remain the same, regardless of how he feels about the pitch calling from behind the plate.

"What am I supposed to do?" he said, according to the Tribune. "You lead the American League in OPS [in 2008], and two years in the top three in the league in on-base percentage. All of a sudden now, I come to Chicago and I can't see the ball no more? I don't know a strike from a ball?

"I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. There's a lot involved, and it's a lot of politics where there's nothing you can do about it."

On Monday, Cubs manager Lou Piniella told reporters Bradley should concentrate on his hitting and never mind the umpires.

''There's nothing good that can come out of it,'' Piniella said. ''What we need Milton to do is get to the point where he hits the ball the way he has in the past and getting on umpires is not a good solution.''
:wtf:   :p :guffaw: Sorry Just didn't know which one to go with.

Destiny, you could also go with this guy

GO TRIBE & JAYS! :D

They Jays WON!, The tribe Sweep the rays, then lost game of NY four game series. Course it might have had something to do with the fact that one of the people that cheers them on and helps them out and was regulated from a starter to a pinch hitter, listener, and all the qualities of a coach without being one, was DFA'd, Today they Designated David Dellucci, oweing him 2.5 mil on his contract still. I don't know if they are planning to Trade, release or waivers, DD mentioned something about one day coaching they might claim him and put him in AAA if he would be interested. But either way it happened yesterday after the game, and then today I guess they found out about it and you could see they played with no heart, they were looking into the dugout for the cheerleader if you will and when upset they looked around cause he was the guy they talked to when upset. *Shrug* they just have to figure a way to move forward.

GO Tribe & Jays!!!!!

I am so proud of my Jays right now, they're really stepping up. I just hope they don't loose focus like they always appear to do you know? Right now I enjoy watching them win so often.

Go Jays!

OMG.... This week is going down, down, down...

Now Hafner who was do back by monday from rehab assignment, is having problems with the shoulder.

Victor Martinez in the first inning tonight fouled a ball off his knee cap, he is fine the x-rays were negative and he is day to day.

Grady Sizemore has left elbow inflammation, so he can't throw, but DHing is fine.

They DFA'd David Dellucci (who was hitting .275) and kept Crowe and Valbuena (who are hitting .182 & .171) because they are younger and just up from AAA. Those would be the only two left on the bench and interleague is coming up.

Now here is the thing before Dellucci came back the club would sit in the dug out looking forlorn, depressed, not talking, laughing or what have you, Dellucci returns they are looking relaxed, laughing, talking (usually to him) if a pitcher went 5 innings and seems depressed there he was talking to him, if a hitter strikes out there they are talking to him and you could see the stress melt away and they relax go back out there and BOOM they hit.
Now granted DD was not playing a lot I think he has had 40 ABs. But Shapiro (the GM) decided that DD hadn't proved himself to stay on track. Now this would be hard to do when you also admit you are bringing up minor leaguers who have less then a month of AAA experience under their belt and giving them more ab's (to the point of batting .150) and making DD sit back, but did he mind, NOPE he made a point of encouraging those youngsters (he is 35) to go out and try. While sacraficing his own career or AB's.

Okay now keep in mind they did this because.... Hafner was due back, Vic was doing very well and healthy, and Sizemore was fine.... Now Shoppach (usually an opps hitter or easy out) is the only catcher until Martinez is back, they may have to DL Sizemore, they have no back up catcher and their DH is going to have to be one of the youngsters, or their going to have to be in the field and one of the other regulars will have to go from position to DH.

Since DD's return, he played twice I believe in the OF, the rest as a (say it with me now).... The DH. yeah... and the GM DFA'd him, wasn't that just sad! :wtf:

DD was DFA'd on the day they swept the TB Rays, wanna guess the players mood the next day and tonight? Read the first part of this post the part of the before DD arrived from the DL.

Victor Martinez is considered the heart of the team, but David Dellucci was the quiet (no one talked openingly about it) fire/spark, Counslor/jokester, and yet the first to call a players only meeting and telling them WE SUCK! :scream: also helping guys with batting, and defense and other things letting them know what he see's is a plus or a problem, they then correct, And again they DFA'd him.

Now why would after all that would they do that? Because the bullpen was taxed, you know the five starters, and seven relievers, so they decided to carry thirteen pitchers and 12 position players. And the BP has been great using no more then two or three guys a night, and thats even if a pitcher can't get past the third inning and they need long relief. These guys (the team) take change about as well as one would take a root canal without being knocked out. So instead of easing DD out (who was there since 2006 in this same type of role) they ripped him out and left the team floundering... Granted this was DD's last year with the team, but you mean to tell me and I am sure he would have done it, they couldn't have just removed him from the roster (a sort of DFA if you will) and gave him a temp coaching or whatever they want to call it role? Again something I know he would have taken, cause he wants to be a coach, and in the mean time he could look for other teams, and ease his way out...

Either way unless they trade, release or waiver him, they are paying him 2.5 million dollars, now I would say if I were paying that much to a player then give him a new role lol.

But get this there is one pitcher who was optioned to the minors because he has given up so many freaking hr's and couldn't be counted on, and he is still with the team.... ON the forty man roster, but they needed to bring Perez back up, and instead of getting that guy Masa K. or Okha off the roster or any of the other position players (the Gm called them kids), they DFA the guy who is helping the team... GO FIGURE!

And I am sorry but if they are old enough to drink, they are no longer kids, the youngest on the Majors team is 24. They stopped being kids, and youngsters the day they were legal to drink.

Okay rant over and yet it is a four game series with the Yankees and lets just say were down two.:shifty::(:wtf: <--- all my emotions rolled into one on the whole situation.

GO TRIBE & JAYS!!!!
BBDDPBTTFCAP! (Bring Back David Dellucci Before The Team Fall Completely Apart!)

Indians former owner, developer Dick Jacobs dies at 84
CLEVELAND -- Richard E. "Dick" Jacobs, the commercial real estate mogul and former Cleveland Indians owner who helped refurbish downtown Cleveland and turned its baseball team into a winner, has passed away after a lengthy illness. He was 84.

Jacobs, a pioneer shopping-mall developer, was chairman and chief executive officer of what is now called the Richard E. Jacobs Group. He founded the firm with his late brother, David, and Dominic Visconsi in 1955.

The Westlake-based company developed the 57-story Key Center on Public Square, the tallest building between New York and Chicago. It was called the Society Center when it was built in 1991. In 1987, Jacobs' firm developed the first retail shopping mall in downtown Cleveland: the Galleria at Erieview, East 9th Street and St. Clair Avenue.

Other local developments include the Cleveland Marriott at Key Center, McDonald Investment Center at 800 Superior Ave., Westgate Mall in Fairview Park, Belden Village Mall in Canton, Midway Mall in Elyria, SouthPark Center in Strongsville and the Chagrin Highlands office and research park in Beachwood.

Although Jacobs made his fortune in real estate, he became more widely known when he and his brother, David, bought the Indians from the Steve O'Neill estate in late 1986. The price was $40 million. His brother died in 1992.

The Indians had been one of the weakest teams in baseball over the previous 30 years.

The team was restored during the Jacobs regime, winning two American League pennants, in 1995 and 1997. They were the first Cleveland pennants since 1954.

Jacobs quickly established his low-key management style on the day he bought the club. "There is no Walter Mitty in me," he said.

Jacobs promised to run the club with sound business fundamentals. He wanted to "stay out of the way" and hire baseball experts to direct the team. He never told them what to do, only that they keep him informed, operate within the budget and be successful.

Jacobs attended most Indians games, sitting in his loge behind home plate. He seemed to be uninterested in seeing his picture in the paper or in being interviewed. On the rare occasions when he was interviewed, he spoke briefly, often deferring questions to publicists or team officials who were present.

Hey now take care of this guy, I still will follow him and I still think he is a pretty good ball player, as long as he stays away from our hitting coach.

Jays, Dellucci Agree to minors deal
ARLINGTON -- Outfielder David Dellucci has agreed to a Minor League contract, the Blue Jays announced before Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Dellucci will be assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, where manager Cito Gaston said he will get some at-bats before being considered for the big league club.

"He can swing the bat, and we needed a left-handed hitter to help out [Lyle] Overbay and [Adam] Lind," Gaston said. "We needed more help from the left side."

The Blue Jays started the season with outfielder Travis Snider as another left-handed-hitting option, but he batted only .242 and was optioned to Las Vegas on May 22.

Snider is struggling with back problems, and he isn't expected to play again until July.

Dellucci, 35, was released earlier this month by the Cleveland Indians. He was batting .275 with an RBI in 40 at-bats. He will make the prorated minimum salary.

Sources: Dave Dellucci agrees to deal with Toronto Blue Jays
Dave Dellucci has agreed to terms with the Toronto Blue Jays. He will be assigned to Triple-A, get some at-bats, and then if all goes as expected, he'll be promoted to the big leagues, according to sources.

Dellucci, 35, was released earlier this month by the Cleveland Indians, and will make the prorated minimum salary with Toronto.

He was offered a minor league deal by the Texas Rangers.

Destiny I know what you mean about following Dellucci when he leaves the team. There are many ex Jays around that I keep an eye on in the papers. You can never have too mcuh hitting. The Jays slumped in that department when they went on that nine game winless streak back in May

Cito Gaston is a good manager and since he was the Jays hitting coach before he was the manager back in the 1980's he understands the hitters. Hopefully Dellucci wll get things sorted out and he'll be with the team in Toronto in no time :)

yep when he was rehabbing in AAA columbus he came back and was cheering up the guys, hitting everything in sight, then our hitting coach got his hands on him and he declined slowly lol. Heck before they let him go he only had two ab's in two weeks, both were as a PH.

Remind me to show you this one pic of an amazing jump he did, it was so cool and its not a fake pic I seen that game and that was real.

Some interesting news from the Blue Jays in the last couple of days.

First off J.P. Ricciardi said yesterday that the Jays wouldn't say no to a deal for Roy Halladay if a deal was right for both parties. Halladay is eligible for free agency next year.

Ricciardi: No harm in listening to offers for Halladay

And the surprising news from today is that the Jays have released former closer BJ Ryan. Ryan lost the closers position at the beginning of the season after he had a dismal spring training. Ryan was released to make room for Scott Downs to be activated from the DL. Downs will resume the role of closer that he inhertited from Ryan in the spring. Now if the Jays could only have games that needed closing  but that's a whole other issue.

Jays release Ryan

Something rare occurred in the Majors this afternoon. Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game. Buehrle's perfect game helped the Chicago White Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-0. Buehrle is only the 18th pitcher in the Majors to have a perfect game. The last pitcher to pitch a perfect game was Randy Johnson of the Arizonia Diamondbacks in 2004.

Buehrle pitches a perfect game

Well you know Mark DeRosa went to St. Louis..
More Moves. Raffie Right (aka Betancourt) went to the Rockies.
And just an hour ago, Ryan Garko was pulled from the lineup to go to the SF Giants. Both for minor league pitchers. :wtf:

This is the problem for our team, they keep trading all the good guys and it's true Cleveland is like a training camp so other teams could just go on to other teams and be successful. The players say they can't control it and aren't letting it affect them, BS just as they were getting settled POP goes another main player. The rumor mill is Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez. Cliff says he is an Indian until they tell him differently, and Victor says he wants to remain and Indian until he retires. All these guys are on edge, who is next to go.... This sucks. :(

I heard the Jays DFA'd Dellucci, but I also heard him and prices right girlfriend Rachel Reyenolds are engaged to be married in Feb 2010. Congrats to them. ;)
