Burked was in reference to the murder of Ted Binion from the Binion Casino family.

Many of the 'cases' on CSI in referenced to or inspired by actual cases.

There's another one too, but I can't remember which episode it was. I was watching a crime show and thought, 'hey, that's the case on CSI'. If I ever remember I'll let you know.

The b-case from Scuba Doobie Doo with the dead diver on the tree is a story based in a real crime too.I remember Carol Mendelsohn talking about it in the season 2 DVD extras.

Also the episode "After the Show" is based on a real life murder. One of the CSI consultants for the show was involved in the investigation.

    mmm.. interesting..
Let's see Burked was the one about Sam Braun's son right? Wait doesn't that make him Catherine's brother...
Diver on the tree.. yeah.. yeah I think I remember seeing that extra..
After the Show.. missing model.. oh that one always creeps me out..

This is a two part question so I'll try to keep everything specific.:)

    1. Does anyone know which casino did Sam Braun used to own? I think it's called the Rampart but doesn't he own that other casino that's was being built in the episodes, "Built To Kill Pt 1-2"?

    2. Does Sam Braun have any other family besides Catherine and her mother? I thought he had a couple of brothers/sons at one point but I'm not sure.

    1. In Burked (season 2), Catherine says that Sam "built three casinos in a year."
    - In No More Bets (season 4), the casinos that the kids were scamming were Pikes, Tangiers, and Rampart, which Warrick points out are "all Sam Braun's places." The first body was found "under the Whiskeytown sign" - which Grissom says is also one of Sam's casinos.
    - The Rampart was imploded at the start of Built to Kill Pt 1.
    - The new casino is called the Eclipse - Sam was killed before they even started breaking ground.

    2. He has 2 sons in Burked, Walt and Tony. Walt killed Tony, so presumably he's in jail now. I'd always assumed they had a different mother, possibly a legitimate wife of Sam, since he openly acknowledged them, but not Catherine until she found out for herself.

For the previous question, from the season 2 DVD extras:
    - Anatomy of a Lye was based on a real case ("in Texas").
    - Scuba Doobie Doo - the real case was the other case, the man who expirated blood from his nose. Some of the fire scenes were from a real fire near the studio.

The body in the tree from Scuba Doobie Doo was based on an urban myth that was proven impossible by Mythbusters. No one has ever died like that ;) As Raynn says, it was the nose guy who was based on reality :)

    I wasn't 100% sure if it was the a-case or the b-case.

Does anyone remember the final scene in the last episode dealing with The Blue Paint Killer(What's Eating Gilbert Grissom...I think) where Gil looks at a drawing that the killer left behind? What was the big deal with that drawing? I've looked at it over and over and still can't get it.

It basically signified that the Killer was going to commit suicide - in his own creepy way.
