Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

I forgot to post about the worrying...with big trips, you've just got to pack your bags and go. Little stuff might go wrong along the way, but chances are no matter what happens, you'll have the best time of your life. That's been my experience with traveling at least.

As for everyone coming not being freaks...that you'll just have to take on faith. But I think a group of 20-30 people is safe enough. Plus, if there's anything anyone doesn't feel comfortable doing, you can always opt out. There will be no pressure on anyone during this trip, either to ride the tram on the studio tour or to go to the strip club, or anything in between.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Flying is not so bad, unless you have to board at 3 am and get really sick. That's what happened on my way back from Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. The flight attendant didn't even offer me a paper bag or anything. Or if you're afraid of being high in the air. I suppose I'm not helping by saying all this. Oops.
Actually none of that bothers me. What bothers me is getting there and back in one piece. BTW, is getting sick a big problem? I have a tendency to get carsick if the road is real curvy.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

^It's never been a problem for me, nor have I ever seen anyone throw up on a plane.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Well, there are no curves during a flight, take-off and landing aside so you should be fine. :) For me, it's not actually being sick but the thought of being in the air that's a little scary...

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

Wow, so much to respond to. This thread is hopping. :D

In short, 95.5% I get to go.
Excellent. You're one of the most mature and accomplished 14 year old boys I've ever run across. Will be great to meet you.

I'm afraid I can't confirm until the end of this month or early March. But I'm gonna get there, even if I have go back to being an assassin ninja to do it!
I have all the faith in the world that you'll do whatever it takes to make this happen. And you've got to make it work because no NY forum meet-up would be complete without you.

Meehhh...I'm getting a little apprehensive about this. I know it's still a long way away, but I'm a compulsive worrier and I can't help but worry about everything surrounding this trip. Flight arrangements, potential freaks (Sorry if this offends), it's really far from home, getting diarrhea at inopportune times, what if I spend all this money and something catastrophic happens, like the transmission goes in my car and I need to fix it etc.

I need a paper bag.
Oh God, girl! I'll stick my foot up your ass via PM, but let me just respond briefly here as well. You'll be in good hands. Just get your butt on that flight and once you land in sunny LA, I'll be right there waiting for you and all will be taken care of. If you've shit your pants en route, we'll stop somewhere so can change. If you need some Pepto Bismol, we can stop for some of that too. As for potential freaks, you just have to trust your gut. I've met a dozen people from this board and haven't encountered a freak yet. Will there be any on this trip? I dunno. Maybe. But like Top pointed out, in a group of 20-30 people, you'll be fine. If someone sketches you out, just don't talk to them. In a group that size, no one will notice you're intentionally ignoring them. Again, like Top says, all activities are optional. No one is going to be forced into doing anything or hanging with anyone they're not comfortable with. As for something catastrophic happening and you've spent all this money on a trip to LA, c'mon, girl - live a little. Sitting around saving money for the event that your transmission blows is no way to go through life. Unexpected stuff alaways happens and always when funds are at their lowest. That's just the way life works. You MUST come! The fact that you've never been that far from home, never flown on a plane, etc. is all the more reason why you've got to to it. ... And 1CSIMFan is an airplane virgin too. You guys can both arrive with stories of 'your first time.' ;)

anyone else here eat any organic foods? or at least fairly healthy?
Oh hell yes! If you're down for it, perhaps we can even hit breakfast at my favorite organic restaurant. Top pretty much refuses to order anything off their menu ... even though I shave years off my life and add inches to my ass eating KFC for her, can you believe that? But seriously, I do maintane a mostly organic, mostly healthy diet, so you'll be in good company staying with me.

'Oh my god thank you Mrs.G!' That is honestly the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me! Oh, I might, might, might get to come and visit you all. I'm trying to negotiate with my mom
 Wow, flattery really gets me everywhere with you, huh? Definitely try to convince your mom to let you come. As for rides, if you're staying at the same hotel as a bunch of other people, I'm sure carpooling can be arranged.

I found a flight, hotel, and car rental package for $1100.00 total for two people (it includes flight taxes/fees and hotel taxes). Is this a good price? Also, does anybody know anyting about this hotel and how close it is to the Best Western?

Highland Gardens Hotel
7047 Franklin Ave
Hollywood, CA 90028
That's a really good price. I don't know anything about that hotel. The location seems good though. I think it's within walking distance (a few blocks) of the Best Western. Generally, Franklin is reasonably safe.

Quick note regarding hotels in Hollywood - you can certainly find cheaper than the Best Western. I went with that only because it was the least inexpensive national chain in a convenient area. I knew it would at least be clean and safe. For those looking for cheaper accommodations, they can certainly be found in Hollywood. However, I want to caution you that before booking anything you should probably post it so that Top or I could take a peek at what you're talking about before you're locked into it. While the area is in the process of revitalization, there are still plenty of way sketchy places that I wouldn't recommend to a tourist in a million years. If you look hard enough, I'm sure you can even find motels that charge by the hour in Hollywood.

Yeah, looks like I'm not going after all. Sorry if I dissapointed anyone who wanted me to attend.
:( :( :( You sure? You sound like the life of any party, Jorja. You will definitely be missed! If there's any way you can swing it, please do try to come.

I am thinking maybe we should rent van instead of car if everyone live close enough, that case, we can save on rental, parking & gas? what do you guys think?
If any of you guys want to go in a van, it sounds like we certainly have enough people to do that ... and then some. I believe we may be able to fill a couple big vans. I'll leave that to those of you who may be staying at the same hotel and/or flying in and out around the same times to figure out. Once people have their hotels and flights booked, I'll PM a listing to everyone to help you guys coordinate that kind of stuff.

Aw, thanks. :) I really want to me you too!

And Jasmina, that sucks that you can't go. But by all means, tie whatever is in your way and lock it/them/whatever in the closet and join us! :D :p

:D Yay! I had a feeling that you ate very healthy, MrsG. I didn't want to be 'that girl' who asked where the closest organic coffee house/restaurant was and everyone else rolls their eyes at me and make puking sounds! But, by the same token, I will also hit Mickey D's once a month for my french fry fix, and KFC and Taco Bell too. But for the most part, I try to eat healthy.

Speaking on puking on a plane, been there, done that one. I was hungover from the night before and well, yeah, no more Bacardi 151 and no more drinking the night before I leave on a trip that I have to be 35,000 feet above the ground.

Jorja, *sniffs* *cries uncontrollably* I am still very upset that you won't be joining us. :( Are you absolutely sure that you can't move a few things around that weekend? *bats eyelashes* I doubt that will work, but if I put Carmine in the mix, then would you come?

We're probably about the same then. Left to my own devices, I do eat extremely healthy and have a strong preference for organic food. However, I'm not a freak about it and I realize that most people don't follow the same lifestyle, so I go with the flow. And I do have one weakness - BBQ. :p But if you want to hear a testament to the strength of my commitment to healthy eating, check this out -- I cannot count the number of times I've driven Top's drunk ass through the Mickey D's drive through at 2am, let the aroma of her fresh hot french fries fill my car, and not ordered anything myself. Dude, there should be a prize for that level of conviction. ... And there is - it's called a size 2 ass.

That DOES suck. :( You know if you put Carmine in the mix, you'll have girls from around the world pawning their dead grandmother's ashes and working street corners to scrape together enough money.

 That is strength- going through the drive through and having the greasy heaven of McDonald's french fries fill the car and not ordered anything! I bow down to you! However you are right- once I changed my eating habits I went from a size 5 to a size 2 (just bought them a couple of months ago) :p Now if I can just get to the gym more than once a week- I will be gold.

Re: You're Invited: Summer Board Meeting in LA!!!

I got it from expedia.com. I have saved it on there but I haven't purchased it yet. I just picked the flight/hotel/rental car and went from there. It lets you pick what you want. Although I was looking back over it today and I am definately changing my return flight. I am NOT leaving LA at 6am.  There were a couple other return flights for the same price so I'll have to pick another one.

My thoughts exactly. I'm 40 years old and I've never been on a trip without hubby, kids, and/or parents. I think it's about time. I never thought I'd ever get on a plane (hubby thinks I'm crazy for doing it) but I can't let a chance to go to LA pass by just because I've never flown.

Congrats! And yep, for me, it was the little changes as well. I was a size 4 for a long time, but proudly was able to wear my size 4s as maternity clothes after making just a couple small changes.
