What Category Do I Belong In? Find out here! [Please rate/comment!]

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

01 - Intermediate. Nice use of brushes although coloring technique is not advanced yet. I see a lot of potential here; keep going and your icons will only get better.

02 - Intermediate. The icons are not butchered (as it often happens with beginner artwork, lol) but it lacks a bit of creativity. Try to work on your coloring so it's less plain, and more eye-catching.

03 - Intermediate. Very promising artist (the first wallpaper looks advanced), but there are still minor things that show that your general level is a bit lower (the stretch of Cath's face in a banner, Sara's red face or squished Natalia.)

04 - Intermediate. You got your own style already, which is great. The colors are a bit too strong but your icons already have this soft icon-ish feel. If you keep it coming, you're going to be advanced in no time.

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

Oh if I can get Vodka I'm in  Vera you know what I'd do for my favorite drink right?! ;)

1 - Intermediate - It takes a lot of Photoshop/whatever Program knowledge to get these effects (textures, brushes, etc.) but the icon itself looks pretty grainy. So if you work on that I'm sure you'll be Advanced in no time.

2 - Intermediate, soon to be Advanced - Your icons are very clear, maybe in some tiny spots a bit grainy, and the colouring is good. Adding text or a brush might improve the icon, but that's up to the icon-maker's taste. The banner appears a bit squished, but that might just be my tired eyes, and Ryan's face is too yellow-ish.

3 - Advanced in icons and WPs - The Stella icon is just beautiful! Love the colours, nice text. Sara is too orange, but again that's just for my taste.
I am the last person who should comment on WPs but I'll do it anyway  Love them! The technique with the shadows on the first one looks really great.
Intermediate in banners - The banners are squished so you should work on keeping the proportions. The ideas and colours are good.

4 - Intermediate, rather Advanced - Your icons are really good, maybe a bit oversharpened (too orange-y)IMO. But they are clear and show creativity.

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

Gosh! I nearly forgot to give my comments *slaps myself and hands out a new bottle of Vodka to Steffi :D *
Sorry for the delay, but as promised - here we go:

#1 - Intermediate, soon Advanced: as it was already mentioned, you need some knowledge before you can use such brushes this way, greatly done. :) But the icon subject itself looks a bit grainy, even a bit oversharpened. So perhaps a bit less brush work but concentrate a bit more on the subject itself, play around with light and contrast and you'll soon be advanced.

#2 - Intermediate, soon Advanced, too. The icons look pretty good and clear already, nearly advanced, but here's the other way round than for icon maker #1: perhaps add some more effects/contrast/even brushes to the icons, I think this will give the certain something (I hope you get what I mean)
The banner is more intermediate right now, though you nearly succeeded with the cropping - that's a tough step! :) Here again: a bit more contrast and perhaps try different/special angles, this will make the banner more fancy :D

#3 - ok, let's do it this way: Advanced for icons and Wallpapers
Intermediate in banners, but with some practicing - esp. in cropping - it'll soon be advanced. Not much to say for the icons and WP, perhaps just to WP #1: nearly everything looks amazing, great blending, coloring, everything, but I guess the cropping of Marg didn't work that well, it distracts a bit. ;)

#4 - Advanced with no limitations. Everything fits in my eyes: great style, coloring, just very well done :)

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

Are all the comments done? I'd like to share my icons with the appropiate thread. :)

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

Jep, I guess we're done with this round.
So feel free to send me your icons now - I already received some :)

Let's see...I'll give you one week to send them in, so please submit your work till Thursday, February the 7th - thanks! :)

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons

Ooooh, I'm so sorry! I completely forgot about this round *feels ashamed* But until now I've only received icons from two people - anyone else out there who wants to join? I'll wait two more days and then post the icons I already have, again so sorry for my not existing brain! :p

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

Alright, here I am - finally :p
Though I'm more than a week too late only three people sent me their work, so this will be a short round.

Please categorize every art work - if an artist entered more than one work and for example the first icon would be beginners but the second one would be more intermediate, please state it this way. :)

Further more:

  • Every artist wants to know whether their stuff is Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced
  • they all want to have comments why you choose the category.
  • Please use constructive criticism and advices, don't come in here and bash someone's work.

That's it from my side, happy commenting! :D

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

Okay, here goes:

Artist 1: Advanced Your images are nice and clear, text is appropriate and readable. Colouring is very nice. They are, however, all every similar. Branch out a bit, try new things, different crops etc.

Artist 2: Intermediate-Advanced. I have to say, it's very hard to judge from just one icon. However, you've got nice colouring, and a nice sharp, clear picture. You could easily fit into either category.

Artist 3: Beginner/Intermediate The images are good. Nicely cropped. The text is a bit fuzzy, especially in the middle one. This is just a matter of choosing a text that looks good in the size you need. Another thing to try is playing around with different colouring effects, if your program allows it.

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

Here's my attempt...tis a bit hard this time.

Artist 1: Advanced Everything is quite in place and spot on. Though as has been said there is a sameness to all three. Cropping sometimes is key to how an icon turns out. Don't be afraid to try new things.

Artist 2: Intermediate While the coloring and cropping are nice, the icon is a bit plain. Perhaps trying text, brushes, or textures to liven it up a bit.

Artst 3: Beginner or Intermediate The cropping and coloring work very well. The text has a blurry/fuzzy quality in all three, so that is a bit distracting. Easy solution is to place the text then adjust the size and font.

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

OK, nobody else wants to comment? Anyone? I'll give you cookies if you do :D

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

Yay for cookies! :D

Artist #01: Intermediate. Good cropping, colouring, text and use of light textures. Moving up to advanced should be fairly easy for you if you try a few new techniques, which I'm sure you'll easily master. if I were you I would probably try in intermediate and see how it goes.

Artist #02: Intermediate. I like the cropping and colouring, it works well and I love the simplicity of it. But it's hard to tell without some more examples of your work.

Artist #03: Beginner/Intermediate. Use of text, borders and imaginative ideas. However the text and icons appear to be over sharpened and aren't smooth. Maybe enter as a beginner at first and I'm sure you'll be an intermediate in no time.

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

Alright, if you really wanna hear my 2cts... here we go:

A1: Definitely Advanced. No more to add to other comments. Clean, sharp, perfectly coloured, lighting and text are great! :)

A2: Intermediate (with strong tendency to Advanced). Since you didn't use any kind of text or brush or special lighting, I just can judge from cropping and colouring and that, for me at least, holds great potential for advanced.

A3: Beginner to Intermediate. I like your ideas and the variety of your style, but you seem to struggle a bit with the details of lighting and colouring. (For your colouring, try "overlay" or "Screen" from the layer options) With a bit more training on those areas, I think you are definitely intermediate, but your take on texture and brushing could hold even more potential for you. Pls post more of your work. :)

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!

A1 - Advanced. Love the coloring, and the image is really crisp. Great job.

A2 - Intermediate. Great crop and good use of 'lines' within. Really drew my eye to the right place, without being distracted.

A3 - Beginner. Could be intermediate. I like the style, but your images have lost a bit of their sharpness. Maybe you could also try dafont.come for some different fonts, they're free, but give you a wider variety to find a text that works well in a small icon.

Well done guys, these were great!

Can I send an icon or two in next time? When do they have to be in? :D

Re: In what category I belong? - Icons~Comments!
