"The Panty Sniffer" Discussion *SPOILERS*

MacsGirlMel- They did. Vartann kissed her to give them a cover when they were going into the hotel room.

The ep was weird, but I don't think it's the oddest we've seen on CSI. Although the concept of the title case was a tad disturbing.

I loved this episode. It was way more about the characters than the cases, which I loved.

And of course, Greg at the rave was so FREAKING AWESOME. Of COURSE he was a raver. hahahaha.

:wtf:

Right. This episode induced more :wtf: moments than any previous one ever.

But I loved it!

Yeah, the meth story line was a little boring. Yet I enjoyed the interaction between Cath and Vartann. For the record, what is his first name? People have said that its Tony. I thought I heard Cath call him Lou. And last season, Greg said Lou as well. Is that it?

All the talk in the other thread about Catherine getting involved in some sort bloody situation and being in danger had me all worked up for this ep. I literally yelled at Vartann at the end of the episode to "shoot the f***ing gun!"

My thoughts on the other story in this episode can best be summed up by Nick: "Oh! ...oh.:wtf:" :guffaw:
I was actually very entertained by it. A little disturbed and may have thrown up in my mouth when the guy was explaining the "chamber of Venus", but still entertained.

Poor Archie. I suppose we viewers forget sometimes that techs usually don't go out and see dead bodies in their natural habitat. The least of which being Archie whose job probably doesn't even require him to go to the autopsy room. Poor guy. Great seeing you though!

I'm a little sad that both interesting scenes of Greg that we saw in the eight ep promo were both here. I liked the opening with Cath walking through the hotel and seeing Archie and Greg leave the suspects' room. Very conspiratorial. And I knew when they mentioned the rave about halfway through that we'd see Greg go undercover. Which was very entertaining.

Greggo scored some E! Did he give it back...?:evil:

Loved Wendy. Loved Nick. Both were hilarious. Not nearly enough Brass. Though I do find the idea that he spent the majority of the episode waiting in the hotel bar with Greg funny. They needed to show just one scene of the two hanging out in awkward silence. Comedy gold!

I'm giving this an 'A'! Great episode!

Summary:
- Marg Helgenberger rocks!
- Alex Carter rocks!
- The two together are so damn cute! I think I've definitely got a new favorite CSI 'ship!
- Catherine & Vartann make me want to squeal with glee! And another mention of Vartann's first name of Lou? He just DOESN'T look like a Lou! That just seems weird to call him Lou. *sigh* oh well. I guess that's what we got.
- Vartann has a sweet, lovable side. Makes up for a few of the semi-insensitive comments we've heard throughout the years.
- Anything to do with women still makes Nick blush like a virgin. Hey, even Super Dave doesn't blush hardly at all anymore!
- Wendy knows the laws of women & their undergarments.
- No episode is complete without a cute Doc Robbins story.
- it was nice to see Archie get a little more action, rather than being stuck in the lab.
- It was a nice change not to have a real crime scene. Yes, the dead lady in the loading dock, but it was downplayed and hidden from the rest of the patrons.
- It's too bad that there had to be a 'B' story in this one. I'd have liked them to expand on Greg's role in the surge, on Brass' part in all of this, on more of the uniforms following the suspects, etc.

my full review can be found here

PraetonCorvinus, according to the book The Ultimate CSI Vartann's first name is Tony. I'm not saying the writers know that - it's just what the book says his first name is.

The 'A' case - boring! I've watched too many police shows that had 'stakeout' episodes to have been the least bit interested in it.

I do have a problem with Greg at the surge alone! He was looking like he was looking for or watching someone and is lucky not to have been shot. There's a reason Grissom never wanted his CSI's going undercover (and I'm not sure Catherine even knew he did it )!

And one can assume that as a detective that Vartann has shot someone at some point in his career. What was with the hesitation? Not to mention that Catherine could have shot the suspect (she's done it before) or in the least knocked him over the head with her gun. She put them both at risk by just trying to knock the gun out of his hand.

The 'B' case - disgusting but a lot closer to a typical CSI episode than not.

It's always fun when you put Nick in situations that make him blush! :alienblush: The whole scene at the 'event' where he really had no idea what was going on and then the scene where Wendy was explaining the finer points of (of really expensive!) womens undergarments to him had me laughing.

I did like that Langston wasn't the main CSI focus in either case and that neither case had anything to do with the other, which seems to me to be a rare occasion this season.

I do hope that the 10pm experiment is over. Unless I'm wound up from a really good episode (which this wasn't) I'm too tired to come online when it's over at 11. :(

Actually if you listen to Brass' radio communication when Greg walked into the rave, he said the 3 undercovers just walked into the rave. The two guys who walked in behind Greg were also with him, although Greg ended up walking off alone to actually pick up the "e".

Not nearly enough Brass. Though I do find the idea that he spent the majority of the episode waiting in the hotel bar with Greg funny. They needed to show just one scene of the two hanging out in awkward silence. Comedy gold!
PraetorCorvinus, you know, I never thought about that but if that was the case that would have been a funny scene.

I did love how when Brass asked Greg if his last drug test came up clean, Greg quickly answered "of course".

This was my least favorite episode of the season.

The good: Nick, Greg, Cath and Vartann, all had some nice character moments.

The bad: Cases that were predictable and boring (not to mention the 'ick' factor), and scenarios that defied logic. CSI's playing detectives and HazMat workers; Cath being attacked yet again; and Vartann's reaction at the end was weird. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Ray came across a little creepy in this episode. Whereas Grissom had a natural curiosity to understand fetishes and was occasionally amused by them, Ray seemed to be enjoying himself. And his sneaking up on Archie was weird, too; I know, I know, Ray is suppose to be sympathetic and caring, 'a gentle giant', but that scene just felt off to me.

I think I actually missed Hodges in this one.

I really liked the meth portion of this episode, more so than the panty part.

I really loved the opening sequence of Catherine walking through the hotel. The music was perfect, and she was so cool, calm, and collected and played everything off well. After all, she is Sam Braun's daughter. I loved how she did a subtle double take when she saw Officer Mitchell kicking it at the table (rocking the Hawaiian shirt, too ). Then, the eye contact with Brass, who looked hilariously out of place in his suit and tie. And finally, after passing the panty vic and having to listen to the creeper talk about getting kicked out of a lingerie show, she passes Greg and Archie in the hall, who barely make eye contact with her. It was just a really cool sequence that let you see that things were a little different, and played very nicely. I'd even go as far as saying that I personally liked it better than the Family Affair opening, and that was really cool.

The kiss. Bye, world! LOL Seriously, as semi-disappointing as it was that it was because they didn't want to break "character", it was still hot. You could tell Cath was surprised, but she soon melted into it. Adorable. And it was funny that he apologized afterwards. And I loved that Lou grabbed her luggage for her. <333

Poor Archie. I felt so bad for him. That has to be rough, seeing a dead body when you are rarely out of the lab. I loved the "So you get to kick it with the babes in the casino, and I get Hodges at the lab?" line. Poor Hodges is getting it and he wasn't even in the episode.

Cath and Vartann. <3 They play very well off each other. The scene where Vartann was talking about the kids making drugs all while the two guys were being active on the camera was funny. Talk about awkward, but Marg and Alex played this really nicely.

Vartann getting antsy and Catherine telling him that they cound go shoot some craps, go shopping, have lunch, or maybe see a show and dinner and they'd still be waiting...and him replying that she's not a cheap date was so cute. They just are such a good fit together. I liked him explaining the difference between a rave and doof to her, and how she was smiling.

I loved the little talks between Cath and Lou (Lou....seriously, Lou?!) about their kids, and I guess that we have confirmation that Lindsey is a senior in high school for future reference. But the shock for Catherine that Vartann has a son was nicely done. You could tell she wasn't upset, just looked a little....pensive. And I couldn't help but get this silly little smile when he was saying that he missed having someone to come home to, and the little silence between the pair. Perhaps a sign of things to come?

Doc and Ray.

Loved the final scenes with Greg at the rave, and Cath and Lou at the hotel. Greg looked so dorky, yet pulled it off. And man, on a side note, I could never go to a rave. The bright lights and flashing on TV were making me sick to my stomach and dizzy, so I could only imagine what the real thing would actually do to me.

The end scene was oh my God. I was so nervous! I absolutely died cause they had Catherine sacrificing her well being in order to save Vartann, and the fact that Vartann was hesitating to shoot really made me squeak. I'm thinking that he was hesitating because he didn't want to hit Catherine, more so than wanting to save the case...but go ahead, Catherine! You take down them big bad drug dealers, all 5'5" of you! The last scene, flashing beween Catherine and Vartann was fantastic. Vartann, looking relieved yet terrified, and Catherine, looking terrified and vulnerable with the blood spattered on her face and tears in her eyes was just....wow. Very nicely done by both Marg and Alex, and I like that they didn't have them rush to each other's arms right away. I like that they left it with them looking at each other, and playing off the shock and terror of the situation. Perfect.

The panty parts were a little boring, but based on the Vartillows portion, I'd give it an A-.

I only have a few minutes to post my comments...

The cases were boring. What could have been more in depth with lots more CSI humor was to have "THE NOSE" Hodges involved with the Panty sniffing. Can you just see his face??? "Well, it's my job." He would have sighed with a smirk. I feel the writers missed the boat with that one.

Nick is still a bit squeamish when it comes to women and sex. He's gotten more up tight I think over the years than relaxed. I love how Ray had to reel him back in after his glances at the cheerleaders.

The meth case was also boring and a bit of a stretch. I still stand by my comments that Vartann is a homicide detective, when did he become an expert on drugs? And when did Cath become the expert on making drugs?
Heck, not that I'm complaining, it's just a very awkward situation to put them in...

I do have to say, without getting very 'shippy' about it, they are totally into each other. Her comment about 'catching them in the act, but not that act' then looked very seductively at Vartann was awesome. Perhaps, they have done 'that act' or at least want to. ;)

One can also assume that they have been seeing each other, pretty regularly since Better Off Dead. When he mentioned his son, she didn't seem that surprised. It's like they've had long conversations before about their lives.

I loved his face when she said, going for a long lunch, shopping and the new Cirque show. Somehow I have a feeling that's exactly what they will be doing for their next date. ;)

The end, I'm thinking that he did shoot someone, perhaps someone his sons age so that's why he sort of freaked out and hesitated pulling the trigger.
I loved the look of shock on her face too, like WTF just happened. He had it too.

I'm sure I'll have more to add after I watch it again. OH, CSI can't be on at 10 anymore. I need that hour after it to digest.... by the time I get done watching, it's past my bed time. :)

K-Bug, I'm with you on the flashing lights at the Rave. That was seriously hurting my eyes. I hate when they do that in movies/tv. I usually close my eyes or turn my head, but being that it was Greg, I couldn't bring myself to do so.

I loved how she did a subtle double take when she saw Officer Mitchell kicking it at the table (rocking the Hawaiian shirt, too ).

Aw, crap! I missed that part. I missed Mitch in a Hawaiian shirt? :( Mitch is awesome!

OMG elevator guy is Booger from the movie "Better Off Dead".

Archie and Greg looked hot walking down that hallway. Was Archie in a leather jacket?

Vartann looked very yummy as well. Nice kiss, but of course it was to make people think they were there for reasons different than they were actually there for. Loved the young kid in the hallway going "someone's getting lucky tonight". :guffaw:

Archie: So you get to kick it with the babes in the casino and I get Hodges at the lab. :guffaw: So cute how he said that... and Greg's grin was just adorable and him patting Archie on the back.

OMG! Archie's walking down a dark area. Something is gonna happen! Oh, he just slipped and found a body. Whew! I thought someone was gonna hurt him. Loved that after finding the body he immediately called Cath.

SuperDave (about Archie): He's looking kind of green.

then later: Why was he looking up her skirt to begin with?
Nick: He was just being thorough. Awww Nicky, sticking up for Archie... so cute.

 at Nick and the "cheerleader". That grin of his was like the grin of a teenage boy who's just seen his first barely dressed chick. Too cute!

Loved Nick's expression/reaction when he realized why the panties were vaccum packed. That "oh... oh... ew!" expression... :guffaw:

Is it just me or did Cath totally check out Vartann's behind when he walked past her after giving her the coffee?

It took me awhile to figure out where I knew the blonde headed E guy from. He was on Harper's Island.

These people pay two thousand bucks just to smell dirty underwear? :wtf:

Chamber of Venus? That's so creepy. Yeesh!

 at the suspect asking if the fingerprint pad was clean.

Loved Vartann asking how long it takes to make E... and Cath's reply and then Vartann telling her she's not a cheap date. Cute banter. ;)

Loved him going "doof doof doof doof".

Linds is a senior in high school.

Vartann has a 21 yr old son named Jake. And Vartann misses having someone to come home to. Aww! I bet Catherine can fix that one for you. :)

 at Doc's story and Ray telling him he's kind of freaky and Doc taking it as a compliment.

Wendy: Just trust me. I'm an expert. Loved her grin.

 The girl rubbing on the carpet in the hotel room reminds me of that carpet commercial where the people fall on the carpet and go to sleep cause it's so soft.

Why do these writers keep changing things? First they change Nick's bday and now Vartann's first name? In that book its Tony... now they're calling him Lou? Ugh. Tony suits him much better. He doesn't look like a Lou. Change it back to Tony, please writers!

Greg's outfit. hehe. Looks like he raided Eninem's closet. The bball hat sideways.

Vartann hesitated to make sure he had a clear shot and wouldn't hit Catherine.

What a weird place to roll end credits.

Heather, good point on the reason Vartann hesitated. That kid did look about 21, so that could be part of why he hesitated cause he was his son's age. I also agree with you that it was weird that they didn't have Hodges in this ep considering it was about smells and such.

the only real highlights in the panty sniffer were cath/vartann and greg

at the end when vartann was hesitating to pull the trigger, maybe he had never had to kill anyone before, or then having someone else (cath) put in that postion, that would be really scary having someone attacking you and then a gun fires

greg going under cover  could of had a little more him

poor archie, first db for him and what is up with him noticing the girl had no underwear

the panty fetish stuff, uh yeah i'm going to quote cath from king baby on this one: "Wow. Just when you thought you'd seen it all." i'm not totally crazy about it and could have saw less of it and i could have gone throught life w/o seeing it but anyway, it was a man's episode of csi

and i agree with the people that had mentioned earlier no hodges and his nose, could have had some interesting wedges in this one and also with wendy being an expert ;)

next week not really looking forward to, dr jekyll would more interesting to me if it wasn't just ray's storyline, field mice the week after is the one i'm looking forward to seeing

it was a man's episode of csi

I would like to stick up for all normal guys out there. Yes, I enjoyed the episode. I thought it was hilarious. BUT I still found the fetish stuff disgusting. I did mention feeling nauseous during Pudder's "chamber of Venus" speech. Which I don't get. I, and probably most other guys, am far more interested in the gift not the wrapping paper. The "Venus" instead of the "chamber" its housed in. Get my drift. ;)

Ladies, how did this episode make you feel? Disgusted? Would any of you freely give up your unmentionables to some guy who you knew was going to smell it? Ew.

More about the episode:

I REALLY liked the opening. Cath walking through the casino and hotel. Mitch, Brass, Archie, Greg. It was all great.

And I think Vartann hesitated because Catherine was right there. They were wrestling around for the gun so he was probably afraid that he's hit her.

I still maintain that Greg shouldn't have been at the surge. If they had 2 undercover cops there he wasn't necessary. They wanted to catch them giving it to minors - unless they're going to lie in court Greg isn't anywhere close to a minor. And I think people tend to forget that in Las Vegas the CSI's are civilian members of the LVPD - they aren't trained for nor is it intended for them to go undercover. I'm all for Eric/Greg getting more screentime (and Langston less!) I just don't think this situation was right.

Here's the early numbers for last night:

ratings

"9 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" (13.9 million, 8.6/14)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" (9.75 million, 6.4/11)
FOX: "Fringe" (6 million, 3.7/6)
NBC: "The Office" rerun - hour-long episode (4 million, 2.6/4)
The CW: "Supernatural" (2.4 million, 1.6/3)

18-49 leader: "Grey's Anatomy" (3.5)

10 p.m.

CBS: "CSI" (13.2 million, 8.4/15)
ABC: "Private Practice" (7.8 million, 5.3/9)
NBC: "The Marriage Ref" (5.3 million, 3.3/6)

18-49 leader: "CSI" (2.8)"

Looks like it was more of a success for CSI than I would really want it to be. I prefer CSI on at 9, 10 makes it end a little too late for me. I was just lucky that today was a holiday and I didn't have to get up early to get one of the kids up. :(

ETA: Anybody have any idea where Sara was? I thought I read something that said that starting with the first episode after the olympics that Sara was going to be in every episode?

This episode was.... interesting. Hilarious in some parts. Flat out shudder-worthy in others. :wtf:
Nick- "Oohhhh. Oh... oh! OHHHH!!!!!" - my thoughts exactly, Nick, my thoughts exactly. :guffaw:

I wasn't exactly interested in the background case with the meth... for me, too angsty and stuff. It was really... really uninteresting for me. Possibly because I'm not a Vartillows shipper. ;)

The Panty Sniffer? Just, creepy but hilarious, "I don't know what to think to be honest with you"!
For the record, I'm female.
So anyway, in response to

It... made me laugh. And then it made me cringe. Yes, for the most part, it was rather disgusting.
And NO. Don't even ask that! That only happens in Vegas!

I loved Ray in this episode, especially here:
ps1.png

Is that grin adorable or WHAT?!
ps2.png

She's his type, don't you think, professor? :guffaw::guffaw:

And most of all, ROFL at his mention of such vending machines in Japan.

That could be just rumor. Where did you hear that anyway?

Finally found it. (Been looking for it for a week!) It came out of TV Guide and Desertwind originally posted it.

Go down to January 19th

Quote:
Fasten your seat belt-CSI is going on a furious ride. On Feb. 4, the team is called in to investigate a death at a high school. "It starts with a kid whose brain literally explodes, and that leads us into the world of classic cars, hot rods and organaized street racing", says exec. producer Naren Shankar. And after a lot of is-she-or-isn't-she staying, Jorja Fox ends the speculation and rejoins CSI full-time. "Jorja will be with us for the whole second half of the season", confirms exec. producer Carol Mendelsohn. Which is good, because Rascal Flatts guest stars in an episode after the Olympics, and the team will need all the help they can get. Bassist Jay DeMarcus is hospitalized when a gig in Vegas goes horribly wrong. "What everyone thought was an accident isn't, says Mendelsohn. But the real danger? DeMarcus flirts with Catherine Willows. That could land a guy in real trouble~
