 You know me so well already... She works for the US Antarctic Program and is currently living at Amundsen-Scott - basically, South Pole Station. There are many permanent facilities there, run by many nations.
GAH!!...you guys post too fast! I not sure I'll be able to keep up! besides I'm having a lot more fun in a different thread!
Blasphemous! What is this "different thread" you speak of!!? Yeah, I'm in a mood - sorry Thanks for the info origin-nknwn I'll check it out a lil' later *runs to add people to the list*
^^If your in a mood its probably not best to tell you - HAHA And my definition of fun is different to yours! But just look in the Misc Forum, you find it, its not hard to miss!... *pops back out*
Ha, I was taught the 7-continent model. That's really cool! I know, it's such a bad pun but I couldn't resist. Anyway, that's so interesting living in a research facility in Antarctica. Does it ever get lonely with the bleak landscape? Kind of reminds me of my cousin who is just about to arrive in Kindu, in the middle of the Congo, as of this moment, to live there whilst she goes through her internship with a London-based NGO. A plane comes in only once a month, I think, and it can get pretty lonely.
HAHA who know how you managed to use the wrong smiley! Stalker! - yes that thread, we're having quiet the philosophical debate in there but I can see your clearly not interested
Tell me your address and next winter I will gladly send you some :guffaw: We had so much of it at our store that we had drifts about 12" above the bottom of the window ledge. And the bottom of the window ledge is about 3' above ground. Liffy I'm glad you are correcting your country in the listing because I was scratching my head this morning to try and figure when Malaysia moved to Africa. I have finally removed the splinters from my fingers :guffaw:
LOL. At Pole, you can go as one of the following - a summerover, who stays for an Antarctic Summer; basically in the time of constant daylight where there is fairly regular transport in and out of the base to move supplies in. Or you go for summer and winter as a winterover. Antarctic winter starts when the sun starts to set - which takes about a month. And it lasts until the sun rises again over six months later. During this time, the base is pretty much on its own. Which means you are stuck with the same 60-70 people for that time. Not so much lonely, but trying.
You're welcome. Hee. I just got back from Canada at the beginning of last week. It was interesting. Weather wasn't too bad actually - certainly no worse than Wales...
Thanks for the info. That's really interesting. Haha, I think I'd rather be a summerover, what with the constant daylight. Winterover sounds pretty bleak and lonely. I wonder if they ever get cabin fever.Talk about being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Kind of reminds me of The Shining! :guffaw:
Page 2?!?! Ok I think that I added everyone new to the list and you are all listed in the right place...however all this talk of continents etc screwed my 'world map brain' up today so if there are any mistakes (which I'm sure there will be) don't hesitate to point out and laugh at my ridicules grasp of the geography .....and before you say anything Soph- yes I know i'm meant to be bright  but the 'ld brain doesn't seem to be working today!
