The Football Thread #4 - It Is Not Soccer

Wow, I can't believe England is out of the Eurocup, I'm sorry guys.

Spain defeated Northern Ireland 1-0, and ended first of the group. :)

:( :( :(

0-0 with Portugal - I was amazed that ball possesion was only 55-45 for Portugal. And again - no Kuqi :(
Portugal is now in with Poland. I mean, we were so close, Poland - Serbia was 2-2 :( :(

Tho I hope Hodgson continues as head coach.

I guess better luck next time. Tho next time there won't be Litmanen - and probably there won't be Hyypiä - Kolkka gets old as well - thankfully our U21 is doing well.

I guess it would have been shocking, now that England is out, that even Portugal would have been out

Meh no England :( They are still somehow in my top five teams :p

And of course some bloody Swedes got in EC   DAMN YOU SWEDES! I still won't support you

NOOOOO!!!! England!!! What have you done?! I don't believe that! How could you give that away, that's beyond me. D****t, I can't believe that I have actually tears in my eyes now that I got the bad news, and hel it's only just 6.30 am, and this day already sucks. The Euro without England - nearly impossible. But well, at least the UK teams can make a cup on their own, with none of them qualified.
Btw, Germany vs Wales sucked yesterday, the German fans in the stadium deserved more than a lame 0-0... but at least we're qualified.

After England's defeat last night the news are reporting that manager Steve McClaren has been sacked. I can't say I'm surprised, he made some significant tactical mistakes, and in the end the team he selected just were not up to the job. I think it would have been different if Owen, Rooney and Terry weren't injured but that's just how it goes sometimes, and the players that were picked were pretty much dreadful.

I don't feel too bad for McClaren because whenever football managers get sacked they also seem to get a payoff. I'd be happy to be sacked and get £2.5m.

Not an unexpected outcome.

I'm not that surprised by the end result but I'm still flummoxed at just how rubbish England came across especially in the first half. They had everything to play for especially after being gifted by Israel earlier in the week. Croatia was just spitting with vim and vigor. One never felt even a tenth of that with England's display. :( Such a waste...

Congratulations to all of the 16 that did earn their places.

:( Aw, inge, England are out. They deserve to be too.

I'm sorry for all England fans. :(
Even if they played badly, it's not the same EC without England.

and now it sounds so strange that Austria is qualified and England isn't.
My country wouldn't have been qualified if they hadn't been the host country.
but every EC needs some cannon fodder. ;)
(I like my country, but I'm also realistic).

I'm probably the only one chuffed to pieces that England didn't qualify.
I had a bet with my dads mate that they wouldnt and won £450 woohoo lol

I still can't get my head around it all to be honest. I can't comprehend that England won't be at next years Euros. In all honesty I don't think they deserve a place, but your heart always rules over your head when your so passionate about something, and the England National Football side is one of my great passions.

After Israel gifted them a priceless lifeline last Saturday it seemed in the bag, but once again England snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

What annoys me the most is thst Croatia had nothing to play for, I wouldn't have expected them to let England walk all over them, as it is still a competitive match and they are wanting to get a result at Wembley. But In all my days I didn't think I'd see the embaressing England side who allowed themselved to be completely outclassed in such an important match. Excuses aside, England still had the superior side on paper without the likes of JT & Rooney, so they should have held the Croats off.

But on the flip side, getting the heartache out the way now is probably better in the long run, it would be so much more painful getting knocked out in the Q-Finals as per usual in next years tournament

Yeah you got a point there... just imagine hetting kicked out by Portugal for the third time in a row... But it's still sad, I've been waiting for a Germany vs. England final for far too long, I've given up hope that I'll live to see that *lol*

....not just getting knocked out by Portugal for the 3rd tourament in a row but getting knocked out by Portugal on penalties for the 3rd time in a row. Loosing penalty shoot-outs, is a heartache greater than any other for a football fan and it seems to be England specialty, and for the last 10 years haven't progressed past the Q-Finals so what would have been different next year

I'd love to see an England v Germany final aswell I was convinced WC06 would be and Eng v Ger final LOL

Arent England putting in a bid for an up and coming World Cup?? If they are and we get it..... that would be the best final if we got a repeat of'66!!! :D

Yeah for the 2014 WC! We're favourites at the moment, but we've got 7 years to go. Knowing Englands luck FIFA will change the rules and make the holders go the same route as everyone else

There is always 2010 in South Afica though :p

Back to that Match the other night........anyone else agree that McClaren should have changed the team BEFORE halftime?!?!
