The Fan Art Forum Guide - Rules/Tuts./Questions *updated 10-05

Re: The Fan Art Forum Guide

Sorry to double post, but no one has posted in here for days and i wanted to post my tutorial. It's very basic and probably rubbish, but oh well.

Going from this to this using PaintShop Pro X, i don't think it's translatable.

1. Open original image. Crop and resize to 100x100 pixels.
2. Remove the background with background eraser.
3. Add this texture as a new rastor layer and put it behind the image.
4. Duplicate the image twice and set both to screen opacity 100% to lighten it up. If it's too bright then lower the opacity. Merge all (flatten)
5. Create 4 new rastor layers. Set them all to Overlay opacity 20%. Colour them with different shades of blue, ranging from light to dark. Your layers palette should look something like this
6. Next, select your image again in your layers palette. Then go to Adjust>Softness>Soft Focus. Adjust the settings like this:

Focus: 50
Edge Importance: 0
Tick the include scattered light box.
Halo Amount: 50
Halo Size: 100
Halo Visibility: 50

Change these settings if you are unhappy with the result. Click ok, merge all layers (flatten). And you're done. Add text or anything you want.

Feel free to use this tutorial and the icon I made, but please credit me if you take it.

Thanks xxx

Hey pilla!

I'm sorry, but I didn't get what you mean... could you explain your question a bit more? :)

Re: The Fan Art Forum Guide

Does anyone know of any good blending tutorials or brush tutorials for photoshop 5?

Re: The Fan Art Forum Guide

Hey guys, not sure if anyone's asked this, but does anyone have a link to a screencapping tool thingy? I tried using Windows Media Player, but my image kept changing-blergh! I had one, but I can't remember the name, link, or anything!

If anyone could help, taht be super duper! :D

Re: The Fan Art Forum Guide

One more question - when you download a texture and the person asks for credit when using? How do you do this?

Re: The Fan Art Forum Guide

Sorry for the double post, but it's been more than 24 hours since my last post.

I just got Photoshop 7.0, and I'm totally stupid with it. Does anybody know where I can find idiot-proof beginners' tutorials? Seriously, they need to start from basics because half the time I can't even figure out how to flatten the image! :D  Thanks in advance.

About the "Hosting Challenges" point that Vera added waaaaay up at the top:

Haha, I'm thinking I probably am one of the big ones as far as that problem goes. Read and understood, and will try to avoid in the future. I'm taking some time off from running challenges anyway, but when I come back, I'll remember that! Thanks, Vera!
