Lab Technician
Hey gals, here's part 8.
“Good morning Mac, Stella. I rarely see you two come to the lab together.” Hawkes saw Mac and Stella walking into the building.
“Good morning, Hawkes.” Mac and Stella answered at the same time.
“We have breakfast together. We rarely see you when we come to the lab together.” Mac smiled. Stella blushed.
“Yeah. You scored one.” Hawkes winked. Something weird about Stella, she was a little…shy?
They were going into the elevator when Flack ran toward to stop them. “Hey, stop there Mac. We have a case.”
“Hawkes, come with me.” Mac glanced at Stella before he got out. Stella nodded.
Stella went to her office. She took out the unfinished paper works. Then she recalled last night’s sweet memories. Her confession, Mac’s confession, and their kisses and… they went back to their own place. They knew each other too well that they wouldn’t rush anything on their relationship.
Stella’s phone rang. “Bonasera.” It was Detective Angell calling in a case. “I’ll be there in about fifteen minutes.” Stella cut the line and called Danny and Lindsay.
----------------------------------------
A woman, Sara Pinelli, was found dead in her own car at her own garage. There was no sigh of struggle. No obvious trauma on the body. The car engine was running. A plastic pipe was connected to the exhaust-pipe and put into the car. Everything suggested suicide. But the first officer found the garage lock was broken. Detective Angell followed up the case and called Stella.
Stella and Danny processed the body and the car. Stella noticed a puncture wound and a tiny drop of smeared blood behind the right ear. She took photos and swabbed the blood. Danny found a visa receipt and a hotel bar receipt. The name on the visa receipt was not the vic. It was a Josh Bank.
Lindsay dusted the garage door for fingerprints and picked up traces from the lock. She also found some high heel prints.
The body was packed and send to the ME office. The car was towed to the lab for further process. The CSIs were about to leave when Stella’s phone rang. She answered and smiled sweetly.
“New boy friend?” Danny asked Lindsay.
“Why ask me?” Lindsay glared at him.
“Well, I thought you two might have some girls talk.” Danny shrugged.
“We didn’t. It was normal if she has a boy friend. She’s such a beautiful woman. Don’t be nosy, Messer.”
“I just cared about her. She had bad lucks on boy friends, you know. I don’t want her to get hurt again.” Danny said sincerely.
“Yeah. But she can take care of herself. Sometimes, there’s something we can’t help no matter how much we want to.” Lindsay sighed.
Stella finished the call and came to join them. “Guys, you take the evidence to the lab first. I’ll be back in about an hour.”
“No problem.” Danny said.
----------------------------------------
Stella met Mac at a small restaurant. She kissed him before she went to her seat.
“I’ve ordered some sandwiches and black coffee for you. You want anything else?” Mac said.
“That’s enough. Thank you, Mac.” Stella gave him a bright smile. “Did Hawkes ask you anything else?”
“No. Why?”
“Well, I think Danny and Lindsay were making some wild guesses. They think I have a new boy friend.”
“You do have a new boy friend. Don’t you?” Mac grinned.
“You’re not new at all.” Stella made a face.
“Yeah. But I was promoted from boy friend to BOY FRIEND” Mac took Stella’s hand and planted a kiss on it. “Relax, Stella. We have nothing to hide.”
“Everyone knows you don’t encourage romantic relationships in the lab. If they knew about you and me…” Stella sighed. “I don’t want them to lose faith in you.”
“I don’t encourage them, but I don’t prohibit them either. We can’t control our feelings as we wish. They would understand.” Mac caressed her hand with his thumb.
They stopped talking when the foods were served.
“Alright, let’s finish our lunch and get back to work.” Stella was relieved. She was happy to know that Mac didn’t mind their relationship to go public. It meant a lot to her.
----------------------------------------
Stella went to the Autopsy. Sid told her that Sara had showered prior to her murder. Although she washed away the traces, Sid found semen inside her and had send it to DNA.
“COD?”
“She was a healthy girl except the puncture wound behind her ear. I believed she was poisoned. I’ve send blood sample to the tox.”
“Thank you, Sid.” Stella went back to the lab.
Danny told her he had followed the visa receipt to find Josh Bank’s address. Lindsay checked up the hotel bar receipt and found Sara used the hotel once a week with a man. Stella decided to pay Josh a visit to confirm if he was the man in the hotel.
Stella and Danny were on their way out when Mac and Hawkes came in.
“Stella, where are you heading?” Mac asked.
“Found this guy Josh Bank, we believed he’s involved. We are going to his place.”
“Josh Bank? Our guy?” Hawkes asked Mac.
“Your guy?” Stella was surprised.
“Where’s the address?” Mac asked Stella. Danny gave him the case file.
“Yeah, it’s the same guy. He fell over a hotel balcony this morning. We didn’t find any proof of foul play. Now our cases are connected, let’s take a look at them again.” They went to Mac’s office.
“Alright, our vics knew each other and might have an intimate relationship. Hawkes, compare Josh Bank’s DNA to the semen's. Danny, compare the prints from both crime scenes to find any match.” Mac was giving orders when a lab tech came in with a tox report. She handed it to Stella.
“Thank you.” Stella said to the tech. She read the report. “The poison used in our case is snake venom.”
“Snake? Wow…” Danny rocked on his heels.
“Snake venom. It’s not common. Let’s check if either vic had connections to it.” Mac said to Stella. When Stella stepped out of the office, a lab tech bumped into her. Mac held her waist from behind. They smiled to each other, Mac held her waist longer than needed. Right behind them, Danny and Hawkes looked at each other with thousand question marks in the head. Mac left with Stella.
“You see what I see?” Danny asked.
“Yeah, I see fires.” Hawkes winked at Danny.
“Good morning Mac, Stella. I rarely see you two come to the lab together.” Hawkes saw Mac and Stella walking into the building.
