Hey
MacsgirlMel, thank you for your comments!
I think you would love the new part here. (Hope I don't guess it wrong.
)
The next two days were busy days. Mac, Danny and Hawkes worked a double homicide. Stella and Lindsay were on another murder case. Mac and Stella hadn’t seen each other much. When they bumped into each other in the hallway, they would exchange information about their cases. There was no late night calls, no personal talks. They were working so hard, finally have the cases solved.
“Stella.” Stella turned to see Reed got out of the elevator.
“Reed. Hey. Mac’s not in the office.” Stella smiled.
“I’m not here to see him. I was in the neighborhood. I just dropped by to say hi.”
An idea popped up in Stella’s mind. “I have some information for you. Come on, let’s talk in my office.”
“Do you want some coffee?” Stella asked when they sat down.
“No. Thanks.” Reed took out his Blackberry.
“OK. This guy lured young girls with some fancy stuffs to had sex with him. He took naked pictures of them. He wrote all the details on his blog and sold the pictures in the internet. There was a girl he wanted so much, but she wouldn’t accept his offer. Few days ago, he finally lured her to his place. He raped her. This girl was shamed and angry, she killed him.” Stella paused. “Besides reporting the case, I want you write something to warn the other girls. Tell them how dangerous this world is.”
“What would happen to that girl?” Reed felt sorry for Susan.
“The D.A. is debating on self-defense. But she would never be the same.” Stella sighed. Then she saw Mac coming.
“Reed, we have an appointment?” Mac asked.
“Hey, Mac. I just dropped by to say hi. Stella gave me some information on a case.”
“The Dodge’s case.” Stella added.
Mac nodded. “Right, you can write something to warn the other girls.”
Reed laughed loudly. “You two can read each other’s mind.”
Stella blushed.
Mac cleared his throat. “Let’s go for dinner. Stella, leave the paper works for tomorrow.”
“Mac, you and Reed may want some men talk.” Stella started to refuse the invitation.
“There’s nothing we can’t talk in front of you. I never have meal with you before. Come on, Stella, I’m starving.” Reed said.
Stella looked at Mac, who waited patiently outside her office.
“Alright.” She took her handbag and left with them.
----------------------------------------
They talked and laughed through out dinner. Well, Mac was listening more than talking. He was happy. He glanced at Stella, she was gorgeous. And Reed was so relaxing. He talked about his adoptive family, school and his blog because Stella could understand. The three of them looked like a happy family. Mac didn’t has such relax and happy moment in years.
Mac paid the bill and they got out of the restaurant.
“I have to go now. My friends would come over to watch the football game. Thank you, Mac, Stella. I have a great time. Next time, I’ll take you two to this burger shop. They make the most delicious burgers in the States.” Reed waved them goodbye.
“You want to take a walk?” Mac asked Stella.
“Sure.”
They walked along the sidewalk slowly, enjoyed the night breezes. They walked in silence for a few minutes. Usually, they would talk on different topics, work mostly. Stella was a bit quiet tonight.
“Reed was in quite a chatty mood tonight.” Mac said.
“You believe he was just passing by?” Stella asked.
“Not a second. He usually came to ask my opinion on something. This is odd.” They walked into a playground. There were some benches under the trees. Stella went to one of the benches and sat down. She took out a little object from her bag and handed it to Mac. “Reed gave this to me the other day. As a matter of fact, it belongs to you.” Stella leaned back.
“A paperweight? Why?” Mac didn’t understand. He sat beside her.
“He made it especially for Claire, but didn’t have the chance to see her. He said he felt warm when he wrongly identified me as his mother. Said he felt warm and safe when we found him injured in that basement.” Stella blushed. “He said we were a perfect couple. I think he was playing matchmaking.”
Mac didn’t speak. He examined the paperweight from different angles. It was made of clay, some colorful flowers in a basket. It was rough and simple, suggesting Reed was not a good sculptor. But it was much valuable than the greatest sculptures in the world. Reed gave it to Stella meant he thought she was a very important person to him.
“I don’t think I should keep it, Mac. I know you love Claire. You and I are just partners, good friends. ” Tears welled in Stella’s eyes. “I know it’s stupid to ask for more. But you should know you’re more than partner or friend to me.” Stella’s heart was bleeding.
“What if I said different?” Mac turned to face Stella.
Stella was shocked. This was an unexpected response from Mac.
Mac took Stella’s hand. “What if I said over a decade of friendship and partnership is enough for me? What if I said I want more than that?” With a shy smile, Mac asked the questions softly and slowly.
A tear sneaked out the corner of Stella’s eye.
“What if I said I love you, Stella?” Mac looked into her eyes. He wiped Stella’s tears away with his thumbs.
Their gazes locked. Stella’s heart was racing. Mac’s face moved closer and closer. Then his lips brushed hers gently and lingered for a second. Stella crossed her hands behind Mac’s neck when he deepened the kiss. It was a long and sweet kiss. They took their time to taste and cherish each other. If Reed saw this picture, he might smile like a fool.
“I think we should thank Reed. His little trick worked.” Stella whispered in Mac’s ear.
“Maybe someday we should play matchmaking for him.” Mac started kissing her all over again.
