He sat up and coughed.

"I'm just thirsty. Could I have some water please?"

He smiled, then coughed again, more spastically this time.

Christine went over to the sink away from his bed and returned with a styrofoam cup filled with water. She handed him the water and watched as he drank it down with ease. He finished the cup and handed it back to Christine with a smile. "I think you need to relax as much as you can." Christine said taking her seat again and giving his hand a small squeeze.
