I am not sure right at this time for the whole reason, but I know right now this board is powered by "UBB threads", and the new one will be powered by "VBulletin", it could be the servers are more of a problem where we are now, they goof up and slow down and cause problems, it could be that they just decided to upgrade to better servers, features, and so on. I don't know if they plan to tell us the full reason or not that will be their decision. ;) Hope that helps some.

I am aware that this is happening, and have been for a while. Am I prepared for it? *coughs* Not really.

I really need to make a note of the date in my diary, as I so know I'm going to forget and log on and be like "holy crap". :lol:

Well Tinks when the move is done and ready, when you login it shouldn't matter, the address will still be the same, just the server and who hosts them will be different, and your login shouldn't be changed at all. The only difference is that when you login you it might just look different.

Also it was asked about threads and how that will work, unless we misunderstood, the active threads should be moved over without a problem, but as with anything problems can arise unexpentantly. My motto expect the unexpected and just be surprisingly pleased when something doesn't go wrong. :D

Nothing stays the same, this will new and better and fun :D.. question? will the icon/avatars still be the same size?

I believe so yes on the avatars, and I believe that you will be able to upload them to the board so there would be no need to link from an album, and also there will be no need for the auto admin that likes to play tricks with our avatars.

As far as I know avatars will still be no larger then 120x120 and Banners no larger then 220 wide by 75 High, and the other rule will apply of choosing either a "banner" or "text" in the signatures. As far as we know, none of the main rules will change, only the server and the host its on for the board.

While there might be some difference and maybe down the line new or updated things to the rules I am sure that will be if it happens at all after everyone has had a chance to adjust to the new functions and such. ;)

Yes Jacquie It does look like it will look good on Firefox, but I've just upgraded to the new Internet Explorer and it strangely looks almost like Firefox, I have both just in case one doesn't work lol.

So TheTrekbbs is using the new system, I was afraid it was going to be totally different, but looking at that it's not :D

So what happens if one of our threads gets closed, one of my favorites is the Other Fandoms thread in Misc . . . if it gets closed is it gone forever or can we open it back up?

The threads won't get closed, but technically they might not migrate into the new system because, you know, computers are weird like that sometimes. I wouldn't worry because there shouldn't be any problems, it's just a precautionary note that it's possible that some threads could disappear due to unforeseen problems.

If it does disappear, then the actual thread is gone forever (as in you can't go back anywhere and find it) but of course a new one could be opened to replace it. :)

As for the avatar size question, I guess you've seen from the Trek board that they have increased their allowed avatar sizes, we haven't heard anything about that happening here, so unless TBonz decides otherwise it will stay as 120 x 120.

Before I forget to do this before T-Bonz closed it tomorrow on her time. What is a display name? I have never heard of it. Can you explained it to me? I really appreciate it.

My e-mail is the same as always since I join here. Do I have to do anything or what? Soon is open on Sunday, I just log in and that it.
 
I'm with NicknGrissom what is a display name, and what do we do different.. sorry this to me is vague :( will our icon still be the same, etc.?
 
^^^I think that as long as you know where the icon is you'll be fine because I think you can upload the pic rather than use an image hosting site like photobucket...Is that right?
 
From what I understand we will be able to upload our icons or avatars directly to the server rather than using a photo imaging site.

Your user name is what appears above your avatar and rank. So my user name is Jacquie with is above my Shorty avatar and rank of Captain :) I hope that helps people :)
