Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
So I was on youtube when I found this little gem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWpq27theY4
Also BuddyTV had a countdown for the 100 best episodes of 2008...
#86 “Ghostfacers,” Supernatural
Supernatural took time out from the countdown to Dean’s death to air this very funny pilot for a new ghost-hunting reality show called “Ghostfacers.” The result was a clever mix of comedy and horror that served as a perfect break from the otherwise dire circumstances of the Winchesters.
#61 “Heaven and Hell,” Supernatural
Jensen Ackles gave a tour-de-force performance in Supernatural’s final episode of 2008 as the angels and demons did battle. Dean played them against one another, had sex with an angel in the backseat of the Impala, and gave a tearful confession about his time in Hell to his brother.
#60 “Monster Movie,” Supernatural
This special black-and-white episode served as an homage to old-fashioned horror films, with a very clever and funny performance by Todd Stashwick as Dracula, who asks the pizza delivery boy if there is any garlic on his pizza. That scene alone merits putting this episode on the list.
#44 “No Rest for the Wicked,” Supernatural
The most extraordinary thing about this season 3 finale was that it ended exactly how the show promised it would: with Dean being sent to Hell. The whole season led up to that moment, and while most fans assumed Dean would escape, the final image of everyone’s favorite Winchester stuck in Hell screaming for his brother left viewers waiting for an excruciatingly long time.
#34 “Jus in Bello,” Supernatural
The Winchesters were trapped in an police station in this action-packed episode that introduced Lilith, the frightening little girl who was actually leading a demon army against Sam.
#14 “In the Beginning,” Supernatural
We thought we knew most of the Winchester family mythology, then came this episode that totally rewrote the book as Dean traveled back in time to learn his mother was a hunter and she made the deal with the YED that led to her eventual death. It was clever and a little disturbing as Dean ogled his own mom, but the show’s mythology was forever changed for the better.
#7 “Lazarus Rising,” Supernatural
The season 4 premiere introduced angels and had a haunting opening scene that featured no dialogue for about 10 minutes. But strangely enough, the reason I absolutely loved this episode was the opening montage that summarized the first three seasons while AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” played. There is no show on TV that can get a viewer that pumped up for an episode.
#1 “Mystery Spot,” Supernatural
The reason this was the absolute best episode of 2008 is simple: it had everything. It was funny, emotional, dark, complex, clever, and everything else that makes Supernatural a genuinely brilliant show. People who don’t watch it might assume that because it’s a genre show on the CW that it’s just another show for teens, but they’re incredibly wrong. This episode had Sam Winchester reliving one day over and over like in the movie Groundhog Day. Every day he saw his brother die in increasingly comedic ways, until they escape the time loop and Sam sees Dean die yet again. The episode shifted tone and went down a dark path that foreshadowed Sam’s downfall. Quite simply, there was no other episode on television in 2008 that had this much comedy, drama, horror, suspense, emotion and cleverness.
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
Me! Me! Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait! *bounces around* If I don't watch Supernatural I miss one thing that makes my life complete, just that touch of horror. I don't even think SPN is all that scary anymore, but still.
Oh, that second pic is cool.
Yesterday I watched a big part of Ten Inch Hero! Man that role is perfect for Jensen.
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
^ I never really thought Supernatural was all that scary in the first place. Maybe it's because I've watched some pretty hardcore scary movies and Supernatural tends to utilize the humour to balance the fear out. But I do remember getting pretty freaked out watching 'Asylum' when I was first discovering the show.
Though from the clips I've seen, this one looks like a real 'back to horror' episode.
*throws confetti* So excited for tonight! I'm a bit bummed that it's going up against a pretty epic-looking CSI episode but oh well.
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
The episode looks great, can't wait to see it! I'm just as thrilled that I get to watch My Bloody Valentine Saturday! :brickwall: that I won't get to see it in 3d, the closest theater is over a hundred miles away! But seriously the only thing I was looking forward to was Those Lips coming out at me
I do have somewhat of my take on how I think the movie should go ...
In the original, the person who caused the accident at the mine was the father of Axel, played by Kerr Smith in the remake. He is buried alive by Jessie Hanniger (Tom), played by Jensen Ackles, but somehow manages to get out of the grave ... which was supposed to lead up to a sequel that never came to be ... and so comes the remake!
One thing I'm not sure about is why all the characters have the same name's except for Tom's ... I remember his initials were TJ in the original, but it never really told what they stood for and since it's been awhile since I watched it I can't really recall ... I'll have to sit down and watch is soon.
When it comes to remakes, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't ... I think this one will work, not because of the fact it's in 3d, not because I'm a fan of the original and not because the fact Jensen Ackles' lips are going to pop out at us in 3d. It's always nice to see how different writers/directors/producers put a spin on a movie, especially one I remember from childhood.
So my actual discussion begins:
I have read plot overviews and have gathered that Tom has been locked up in a mental hospital for the 10 years and when he comes back Axel is with the girl he loved. They could go along with the older movie and have Axel as the killer, but seriously why would he be doing it, he could have been with Tom when he made the mistake trapping all of the miners, other than that I don't see why he'd have any reason to snap and go on a slashing spree.
My bet's on Tom, he has spent 10 years locked up in a mental hospital, thinking about what he's done, who's to know if he's snapped in that time? I hope they go that route, because Jensen did a great job on Smallville playing a little crazy, even though it was only for one episode xd ... Jensen + Buckets of Crazy = Hot Damn!
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
I think the question is, who ISN'T excited for tonight?!!
Yeehaw. Can't wait. I've been craving the show all week, so I don't think I could have waited much longer and maintained my sanity.
I wonder how long it will be until they jump back into angels vrs demons?
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
Okay guys, just a reminder, this is the SPN thread, not My Bloody Valentine. I know y'all are excited to see Jensen in 3D, can't say I blame you, but please keep the discussion on topic, thank you.
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
OK wow. Another great episode. And I'm not even sure why I loved this one so much, but I really did. For some strange reason, this one sort of felt like I was watching a movie... anyone else get that? I'm thinking maybe it's because they sort of delved more into this family than they usually do or something. Not sure, but whatever it was, it worked!
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
Bwha this was a good episode. I loved the reference to the "Humans can lick, too" urban legend. That was super creepy...
I didn't really get to process much more of the episode, because once the preview for next weeks show aired me and a friend ran out the door (quite literally actually, since it's -9F outside right now) and went to go see My Bloody Valentine. Twice the Jensen. hehe I'm going again tomorrow..
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
Ew ew eeeew, man that episode CREEPED me out!! That girl was pretty ugly. I don't think I'll ever like using nightvision again. Why does it always have to be dark? But what a good comeback.
Re: Supernatural #2 -Saving People, Hunting Things, the Family Busines
I'm so mad at myself. Locally SPN comes up an hour later than usual now. So instead of running the same time as CSI, it's on after. So I always just switch over to watch it after CSI instead of recording and watching later. But I didn't think that while CSI was delayed because of Bush's speech, SPN wasn't because that channel didn't air it. So I ended up coming in really late and was pretty lost.
Since I haven't really kept up with spoilers too much, I didn't know what the ep was about, but I swear when I swiched over that girl ran out yelling about Casper the pervy ghost. So I thought it was going to be a funny one..yeah I was wrong. What I did see scared the heck outta me.
