Sid Hammerback - The coroner with the coolest glasses.

I will post it as a spoiler, in case anyone else haven't seen the episode yet and don't want to read spoilers. The bold parts are the most interesting ones.

Short story, Sid found out that the female victim had a scar on her wrist, and realized that he has seen it before. So he did decided to look it up. Even checked some old cases. Then he goes to Mac's office and wait untill Mac comes in.

Sid: This particular scar is the result of a cutting ceremony shared by... a certain cult.
Mac: Cult?
Sid: Look, I'll just say it straight. I think our vic may have been killed by a vampire.
Sid: I believe they're called Sanguine Vampires, or, simply, Real Vampires, as opposed to Lifestyle Vampires, which are more about the Gothic style and so on. But Real or Sanguine Vampires can get very philosophical and see it basically as their religion. And one way they discover that higher place is through blood exchange. Which, apparently, is a consensual act.

Mac: All right. And, erm... you know this how?
Sid: (Giggling) Oh, don't give me that look. I mean, you know, my eccentricities only go so far. I promise you, I'm no vampire.

Sid: You said the father was from Europe?
Mac: England.
Sid: Perhaps the family has Romanian roots. Maybe they're descendants of Vlad the Impaler.

Sid: It's just fascinating to me, from a purely scientific perspective, of course. With everything that's out there right now, the idea of ingesting another person's unscreened blood is... you know, quite frightening.
Mac: Well, this whole theory, Sid, is a bit frightening.

Sid: It appears Estelle Christensen had a dark side.
Mac: Which I intend to shed some light on.

Thank you!

 Oh, thanks so much! I can totally see this scene in my mind. Sid was perfect for this scene, really.

What I also love is that Sid gets along with every character. No matter who he's working with, it's always fun to watch.

You are welcome :)

By the way, I also enjoy how he gets along with all characters. Especially as he is odd in his very own special way. Some people would probably think Sid is scary and try to avoid talking to him whenever it is possible. But it is not like that at all. Everyone likes Sid and he likes them too. So it's really nice to see that.

I agree! Everyone is getting along with him. What I also love is how honest he is. Like this conversation with Lindsay where he simply told her Danny has a crush on her. He's honest, but in a friendly way. But to me it seems like Hawkes got to hear most of his creepy stories? Also- you remember the conversation where he was convinced that the victim came out of the space? That was Playing With Matches I think.

Yeah, thinking about it, I found this sweet scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQNKhX0L2yc . It really shows how well he gets along with everyone (and it's hilarious).

But I think Mac is the one who hears many of Sid's creepy stories. I am not sure though. I have to re-watch some episodes before I can tell.

You mind reader! I was just thinking of Sid being at the hospital. It's true, everyone was worried because of him. Mac and Lindsay were at the hospital, Hawkes was very concerned all the time... Everyone loves him, he's like the Daddy of them all. I also love how caring he is. Like his reaction when Stella was so scared because of her possible HIV infection.

Hahaha, mind reading is creepy but I bet Sid would find it interesting ;)

You are right. Sid is a great character and he would never harm anyone. He is nice, always have time to listen if you need to talk, cares about people and is a fantastic person in general. I think that the fact that he is weird is what I like the most about it. He likes the most bizarre things, and find freaky stuff fascinating. I completely adore it.

I bet Sid has a nice story about mind reading as well.

I know what you mean. He's just a good person, but he's not the typical 'know it all', he's having this crazy side. But what really got me was in this episode with Pino. Point Of No Return I think. Over here in Germany we're just getting season 5 so it aired not long ago and I watched it for the first time. I felt so bad for Sid when he was realising what Pino was doing and especially in the end when he was arrested. It really made you wish to give him a hug. Robert did an amazing job with portraying Sid in this episode.

I like how he finds almost anything really exciting and entertaining. Like vampires, which I mentioned earlier but also many other things. He has a huge knowledge in "weird things" that many other people don't share, as they think it's odd and sometimes even creepy. But it's even more natural and normal for Sid.

I agree with you when it's about Pino. It was so awful to see Sid theree talking to Pino, when Sid had realized what Pino was doing. It was so sad, and it could break anyone's heart. I felt so sorry for him.

Wow, only season 5 still? I am just amazed as I thought many european countries had similar airing dates/scheules for one and the same show. Well, I know that United Kingdom and Sweden (where I live) are into season 6 at the moment. So I am very surprised that you germans recently started to watch season 5. Ok, I am going off topic and we may continue this discussion in PM if you are interested.

Yes, pm me if you want. :) I'll stay here for a while. /OT

I know! Like when he was talking about coincidences. I think it's one of the many reasons why I like him and Lindsay; they both know a lot of random stuff and I'm a huge fan of their interaction. I have so many favourite scenes of them together. Like Mac said, they're also a great team. :D I think Sid's knowledge of all those things is very entertaining and I can totally see him watching TV or reading books of all this stuff.

I didn't know Sid had such a close relationship to Pino and his wife. No surprise he was so shocked by what he found out! Especially at the end; this disappointment and sadness of Sid...poor him. Sid seems to care a lot for his colleagues though. Like when he wanted to invite Mac for...Thanksgiving? I don't remember for sure. Mac was together with Peyton back then.

But after all, we barely know anything about Sid at all. I think he mentioned during a conversation with Stella that he has a wife. But we don't really know much about the man himself. Which is weird as we know more about all other characters (well, except Hawkes). So it was a big surprise finding out that he knew Pino and his wife very well and often did spent time with them.

I did look at different Sid quotes (as I posted the vampire quotes earlier). I realized that I love him more than ever. He gets so many good lines  I mean, look at this:

Admissions [4.18]

Sid: (about the hydrofluoric acid that killed the teacher) Do you have any idea how often I've wondered what would happen if you swallowed this stuff. And there it is sitting on the shelf, perhaps the most corrosive acid known to man. You just get that urge to take a swig, you know what I'm talking about?
Mac: Absolutely. Like when ever I pick up a scalpel, I wonder if I could perform a live autopsy on myself.
Sid: You do that too, 'cuz I thought I was... (turns to realize Mac is joking) Don't play with me like that

People With Money [3.1]

Hammerback: Did you know that, when Egyptian Princesses died, they were not embalmed for several days to prevent necrophilia. The natural degradation of the body made it unappealing even to the most deviant of men. Why someone would want to have sex with a lifeless body in the first place...
Hawkes: Sid?
Hammerback: I mean it's counterintuitive...
Hawkes: Sid? Sid!
Hammerback: What?
Hawkes: You're going to that creepy place again

Sleight Out of Hand [3.18]
Sid Hammerback: (looking at the body of their vic, who was sawed in half) Do I even need to state the cause of death?

Green Piece [5.17]

Sid: So, how do you feel? It's your last case, right? Then off to Montana.
Lindsay: Feels pretty good.
Sid: I bet it does. No bodies at 3 am. No double shifts with no sleep. A slice of pizza on the run.
Lindsay: Constipation, swelling in the feet. Help getting up from the chair. Constant urination. Wanna switch?
Sid: I already have all that. I just want the time off.

+

Sid: (Allison Redman's death) I realize this is usually the part where I tell you that I found some strange, unusual, bizarre, aberrant, peculiar, idiosyncratic… that's it, I don't have any more synonyms for strange. Wait… weird, weird piece of evidence. But, alas, there's no Gila monster in her stomach. She simply succumbed to the bomb.

   Oh man, now you made me faint laughing. This man is brilliant! You chose some of his best quotes. But I also love this:

Danny
: Whoa. Wha’? A meat thermometer? Who stabs somebody with a meat thermometer?
Sid
: Cannibal?

And:

Sid: Now keep in mind that I'm simply a pathologist, but the injuries to this victim, well frankly, they appear consistent . . . with him re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. Now until you come up with some evidence that says otherwise, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

 See, this is what we meant earlier. Sid is unique. Only he can say such sentences.

I agree with you though. We know he has daughters and has been married before. And some...private information as well. ;) But apart from that, we barely know anything. I also had no idea he and Pino were close, because we never saw them interact before.

But to be honest, it is not what Sid says that makes it funny. Anyone could say it, but I bet it would not be that fun no more. It's more like how he actually says it that makes it soo comical. It's not his fault, as I actually like how genuinely interested and excited he is all the time when it comes to weird things.

Yeah, there is just something about the way he says it that's awesome. And those half-smiles of him. What was the game again that he loved to play? Mr. Potatoe Head or something? And he stopped the time to see how fast he is. Sid is just too adorable. Plus his glasses rock. They are so him.

Oh, that's a classic moment. And i totally agree with Danny here:

Danny: Mr. Potato Head! The live version.
Lindsay: More like the bloody, dead version!
Sid: I used to play with Mr. Potato Head as a boy. I would time myself, see how long it took to assemble him. Some would say I was obsessed!
Danny: You? Obsessed? Nooo!
