I just finished watching CSI and loved Ted Danson’s character. When are we going to learn more about him? — A.J.
Well, I can tell you the second episode of this season is just as good as the first! And next week, we’ll get a chance to see more Russell’s unique form of crime solving comes in handy after a seemingly simply (and very grizzly) case takes an incredibly complicated turn. There’s also great interaction between Russell and Catherine, who is increasingly fraying at the edges, at the end that I think you’ll enjoy.
Some more spoilers for episode seven, "Brain Doe."
~ One of DB's four kids, Charlie, enters the picture. He's 18, tall, handsome, charming, smart. Charlie is at WLVU on a full ride basketball scholarship and also a good guitar player.
~ Charlie has apparently gotten into some sort of trouble with his basketball coach, and is ordered home by Russell to talk about it.
~ DB works his magic like he did in 12.01 with the son of an apparent suicide victim. He's holding a major secret...
~ There may be a storyline that deals with someone selling a human brain.

Thanks to vegaslights for posting this!Question: It’s kinda been a while since you’ve posted some CSI scoop. What’s the latest with the mothership series? —Lee
Ausiello: I have a feeling the teasers I have on tap pertain to the story that will give Marg Helgenberger her big sendoff. In an upcoming episode, Catherine reconnects with an old friend, Laura, who comes off sunny side up but underneath is scared to death — perhaps of her husband, John? He certainly sounds scary. A powerful bazillionaire whose company may or may not have been involved in an arms robbery. (That’s arms robbery, you’ll note, not armed.) I’m scared. Anyway, whether Richie Rich is guilty, something bad goes down, because before you know it, there’s a hot FBI guy in town working a big case — and sleeping with Catherine! The show wants star power in all these roles, plus that of the g-man’s sidekick. So whether this is the end of Catherine, it’s for sure the beginning of something big.
What's up for Catherine in her last season on CSI? — Meg
ADAM: The show is cooking up lots of stories for her final season, most significantly a potential relationship. First, we'll meet an old friend Catherine hasn't seen in 22 years, but don't let that distract you from the real sparks. A sexy FBI agent is waiting in the wings. Their initial meeting is not cute: His team "assists" on one of the CSI team's cases, much to Catherine's chagrin. But once the pair survives a brush with death, they decide to celebrate ... with a roll in the hay.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Episode 12.09, "Zippered"
STORY LINE: The murder of a retired Army Ranger brings the FBI in on the case, to Russell and Catherine's initial chagrin.
Agent MCQUAID handsome, sexy, confident FBI agent, he initially rattles Catherine when he and his colleagues swoop in to "help" on the CSI team's latest case. Assigned to work with Catherine for the duration, he's impressed by her amazing field work, and she, in turn, is impressed by his intelligence and bravery -- so much so that the two are soon embroiled in a steamy fling. When they are later pinned down by an unseen assassin, they work together to survive their brush with death.GUEST STAR/2 EPISODE ARC
Laura: Catherine (Marg Helgenberger)'s old friend, she's a beautiful, smart, put together, monied woman who is delighted to see Catherine again after 22 years. Married to the billionaire head of a U.S. military contractor, she seems to have it all. However, when she and Catherine get together to talk about old times, Laura reveals surprising terror underneath her cheery, charming exterior, a terror that Catherine suspects stems directly back to her husband. GUEST STAR/4 EPISODE ARC
According to Ausiello, Annabeth Gish has been hired to play Catherine's friend, Laura, in the story arc leading to Cath's exit.
The truth is out there about Marg Helgenberger’s hush-hush exit plot on CSI, and I have a hunch X-Files vet Annabeth Gish figures squarely in the middle of it.
The actress has landed a three-episode arc as Laura, an old friend of the soon-to-depart Catherine. When the two reconnect after 20 years apart, Cath discovers a surprising terror underneath her pal’s cheery exterior — a terror that she suspects is linked to her powerful bazillionaire hubby whose company may or may not have been involved in some very shady goings-on.
Gish’s first of three non-consecutive episodes is slated to air during November sweeps.
Producers are also casting the role of an FBI agent who comes to Vegas to work on a big case — and sleep with Catherine.
Thanks to vegaslights for posting this! Some more casting. Matt Lauria from The Chicago Code will play an FBI agent, but *not* the one who sleeps with Cath.
While filming is about to wrap on episode eight, the show’s writers are hard at work completing scripts for episodes eleven and twelve, which will act as a two-part exit for the character of Catherine Willows. Starting in episode nine, the series will introduce four new characters who will play an important role in her exit arc. The characters include one of Catherine’s old friends, the friend’s husband, and two FBI agents. One of the FBI agents winds up in a steamy encounter with the recently demoted CSI, but does that mean the relationship is over for Catherine and Vartann (Alex Carter)? A source close to the show tells CSI Files there’s been no concrete evidence to prove the two were in an exclusive relationship, and when things left off in “The List,” the status of the relationship was undefined. “Perhaps infuriatingly undefined,” the source says, but “Catherine will not be cheating on Vartann.” In the case of Catherine, the show is trying to display that her life is “in flux and she’s searching for something, but she’s not even sure what that might be.” By the time her departure happens, most of those answers will be explained.
Though he hasn’t appeared in any of the episodes to air so far, Vartann will be making a return to the series. Fans can look forward to his return in episode eight, “and he will be in eleven,” the source confirms. Speculation online currently points to a grim ending for Catherine, but that is fortunately not the case. “The door will be open for her to return,” a source teases. “There may be something in the finale, but for now [episode] twelve is definitely her final episode.” And while Catherine may be exiting, Vartann will “continue to be in future episodes.” As for those closest to Catherine, fans will likely see the return of several key family members in this season’s twelfth episode. Could that mean a visit from Catherine’s daughter, Lindsey (Kay Panabaker) and mother, Lily (Anita Gillette)? The source plays the vague card, only saying “her family will be a part of her final episode.” At this time, unfortunately, plans have not been made to bring back William Petersen as Gil Grissom. “Scheduling wise, it doesn’t look like it will happen,” but nothing is set in stone.
Several past characters will also make a return visit within the next few episodes. Detective Vega (Geoffrey Rivas), who was last seen in “Hog Heaven,” will appear during this season’s eighth episode. Archie (Archie Kao) has been missing so far this season, but the show is finding a way to bring him back into the fold. The show hopes to get some other previous detectives and techs to stop by; meanwhile, there are no current plans to have Sofia Curtis (Louise Lombard) return, but “things can always change.”
In terms of helping usher Catherine off the show, Nick Stokes (George Eads) will play a pivotal role. “Without giving away spoilers about what the storyline is, Stokes will hopefully play an integral role in helping Catherine solve her final case.” Someone may be going rogue, but it’s up to DB Russell (Ted Danson) to “keep the team on task,” a source shares.

BY MICHAEL SLEZAK
Things are about to get hotter than the Nevada desert at high noon for CSI‘s Catherine Willows. The Vegas crime-lab veteran will soon find herself embroiled in a “steamy affair” with an FBI agent played by Grant Show (Big Love, Melrose Place) — and it could turn out to be more than just a workplace fling.
Sources tell TVLine exclusively that Show has signed on for a multi-episode arc as Agent McQuaid, the “sexy and confident” partner of recently cast Matt Lauria (The Chicago Code), who “initially rattles Catherine when he and his colleagues swoop in to ‘help’ on the CSI team’s latest case.” Soon, though, McQuaid finds himself taken with Catherine’s amazing field work, Catherine finds herself taken with McQuaid’s intelligence and bravery, and the duo take their mutual appreciation directly to the bedroom.
With Helgenberger set to exit the long-running procedural at midseason, is it possible that Catherine has found a partner with whom she’ll ride off into the sunset? Stay tuned.
It appears Ted Danson’s nascent CSI boss is about to get his first major test.
The CBS procedural has tapped TV’s go-to scoundrel, Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, The Good Wife, Lost), to play a villainous new foe to Russell and Co. in multiple episodes.
Welliver’s character, John, is a slick, arrogant and powerful military contractor who is questioned about his company’s role in a recent arms theft. Although cooperative, Russell suspects John knows more than he’s letting on.
The role is the centerpiece of a major storyline that sources say ties into the looming departure of Marg Helgenberger’s Catherine. Annabeth Gish was just cast Cat’s old friendand the suspicious, fearful wife of Welliver’s John.
Additionally, Melrose Place‘s Grant Showand Friday Night Lights‘ Matt Lauria are set to play FBI agents who come to town to assist the CSIs on a “big case.” It’s probably safe to assume that the missing arms plot is that very case.
Welliver is slated to debut in this season’s ninth episode, airing November 23.
