Being back in the writers room is a real treat. It's like I never left. Some old faces. Some new. Carol and I are working on all of the scripts together. One of them is about a "forensic proof killer." The villain called "Sqweegel" is from my best-selling novel Level 26: Dark Origins. It's the first time in history that a villain from a novel has appeared on national television by the same creator, a literary/broadcast cross-over if you will. It stars Ann-Margret and is scary as hell.

Today, CSI is watched by 73.8 million people (worldwide) a week. That's amazing. This season is going to be explosive. Justin Bieber stars in the premiere. We have a shark in a pool. A day club gone wild. We're doing an episode about a vampire and werewolf convention. The shows are going to be fun, Vegas-centric, and very character-driven.

Question: Any scoop on Justin Bieber’s CSI episode? —Chris
Ausiello: I think you mean episodes. According to exec producer Carol Mendelsohn, the pop phenom will appear in the season premiere and then again in episode 15, which is slated to air in February. “He plays Jason McCain, a troubled teenager who is faced with a difficult decision regarding his older brother,” she says. “We think he’s this really good kid who’s put in this very bad situation. But we will get a glimmer at the end of the [premiere] that perhaps he’s not the good kid we thought.”

ADAM: "All of our characters will be recovering from the events of the finale," executive producer Carol Mendelsohn tells us, adding cryptically that Ray "will have lost something in the attack." She also let slip that Haskell will return to Vegas to stand trial. "Our current plan is to have Nate Haskell defend himself, and anything goes — including putting Langston on the stand!"

"He spends the entire premiere episode in the hospital — he still works on the case, but he's in a lot of pain and doesn't want to take anything for it, it clouds his thinking." And the Langston/Haskell thread runs through the whole season, she says, from hospital to courtroom and beyond. "There is a connection between Nate Haskell and Ray Langston. Exclusive: 'CSI' finally lands Katee Sackhoff

CSI has finally succeeded in capturing Katee Sackhoff.

The Battlestar Galacitca firebrand and recent 24 alum is joining the cast in a potentially recurring role, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Sackhoff will play Detective Reed, a smart, tough, and feisty investigator with an acknowledged lack of sensitivity. Her first episode is slated to air during November sweeps.
