Lab Technician
Thank you everyone! Since everyone loves Stella and wonders what happened to her. I wrote a bit more. Mel, please don't throw things, you know I'm a kind person, don't you?
Part 3
Mac and Danny were in the car, racing for the clinic.
“I don’t understand. Why did the text come from my cell?” Danny was agitated. He took out his phone and checked. “This is not my phone!”
“What do you mean?” Mac didn’t look at Danny. He was focused on the road. He wished he could fly to the clinic.
“A woman bumped into me this morning. I dropped my stuff. She helped me to pick them up. It must be her. She switched the phones. I didn’t check it when she gave it back. Damn! I was so stupid.” Danny punched the car door.
“The check up is a trap. They fooled Stella to believe she’s losing the babies. They planned to kidnap her from the beginning. They are smart enough to drag me away from her. We have to find her, Danny.”
Mac braked hard when they were arrived the clinic. They ran directly to the examination room. The nurse at the reception counter tried to stop them. Mac just flashed his badge but didn’t stop running.
Mac pushed open the door. A doctor and a nurse were checking up a patient, a man. They were shocked by the interruption.
“Where’s Doctor Eliza Benson’s room?” Mac asked the nurse.
“Would you step outside before I answer your questions, sir?” The nurse said politely but firmly.
Mac followed the nurse out. Danny, Flack and a few uniform officers were waiting for him. A man approached and introduced himself.
“I’m Doctor Josh Donavan. What can I help you, detective?”
“I’m Detective Taylor with the NYPD Crime Lab. I’m sorry, doctor. It’s an emergency case. My wife is scheduled to have a check up in this clinic. But she is kidnapped.” Stella was actually his wife in Mac’s heart. His heart was burning.
“Who’s your wife’s doctor?”
“Doctor Eliza Benson and Doctor Cameron.”
“Doctor Benson called in sick today. Our only Doctor Cameron passed away two months ago. Are you sure it’s Doctor Cameron?”
“I need Doctor Benson’s address.”
“I’m sorry, detective. I can’t…”
“My wife is missing and she’s pregnant. Please, doctor.” Mac raised his voice.
“Alright.” Doctor Donavan went to the computer.
Lindsay called. “Mac, I found Stella’s car. Here’s some sign of struggle. Her phone and other stuff were scattering around. I’ll process the scene and get the surveillance tape of the parking lot.”
“Be thorough. Keep me posted.” Mac ended the call and turned to Flack and Danny. “Flack, tell your men to question the staffs who work with Doctor Benson. And subpoena the surveillance tapes of these two weeks. Danny, you and Hawkes process the threat note and the cell phone. This case is our first priority. I need everything that can help to find Stella.”
Doctor Donavan gave Mac a piece of paper.
“Flack, you’re coming with me.” Mac called Flack when he was running to the car.

Stella woke up and disorientated. She sat up on the mattress and looked around the room. It was a room with no windows. No. There were windows but all of them were nailed up with timbers. There was no furniture. The mattress was on the floor. At the right hand side of the room was a toilet without door.
The next thing Stella noticed was someone had changed her into a nightgown. All her clothes and belongings were gone. Her left leg was shackled with a long metal chain connected to a hook on the wall.
“Hello, anybody here?” Stella cried out loudly but no one answered. “Hello?”
Stella recalled the memory of what had happened in the parking lot. She remembered went to the car with Mac. Mac got a message from Danny. He said he needed to go back to the lab first and he would pick her up at the clinic later. She put her stuff into the car after Mac left. Then…then she felt someone was sneaking up behind her. She turned and fought back with keys in hand. She believed she had scratched the attacker with her keys. Then the attacker covered her nose and mouth with a towel and then she was black-out.
“Detective Bonasera!” A man’s triumphant voice came from the other side of the door. His voice sounded familiar.
“Who are you? Why are you locking me up? What do you want?” Stella was enraged.
“Calm down! Detective. It’s no good to your babies.” The man laughed.
“My babies! You know about my babies. You’re Doctor Cameron.”
“You’re as smart as I always remember.”
“What do you want?”
“Don’t worry. I wouldn’t hurt you or your babies.”
“Yeah? So, why am I here?”
“I didn’t believe I was so lucky when you walked into that clinic. It took me two years to have this chance. At the beginning, I was planning to trick you into an abortion. I wanted to see you suffer from losing your babies. To see how miserable you are when you know that they are actually healthy. But I changed my mind. Lucky you! I would raise your kids. It would be so much fun to see the young Taylors, the heirs of the greatest Detective Taylor and Bonasera, become the greatest criminals in the world. Hahaha…”
Stella felt cold sweat covered all over her body. She took a few deep breaths and hoped she sounded calm enough. “Funny, you got into so many troubles just to make me miserable. Seven months are a long time. You think Mac and I would just sit there and wait to be humiliated?”
“I hope not. I love to see how this game plays out.” Stella heard him walking away but he came back after a few steps. “By the way, I have the keys you used to scratch me. So your boyfriend’s work would not be easy. Hahaha…”
Stella sat down and placed a hand on her abdomen. She was so happy to hear that her babies are healthy. She looked around the room again. There was no way she could get help from here. She decided to save her energy. She knew Mac would find her soon.
