Hannibal Cancelled at NBC

NBC has stuck a fork in Hannibal.

The Peacock network has cancelled Bryan Fuller’s acclaimed, lush thriller, TVLine has confirmed. The show’s current third season — slated to wrap up in late August — will be its last.

“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers,” Fuller said in a statement. “[NBC president] Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure.

“Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer,” Fuller added, “but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

NBC issued its own statement, saying, “We have been tremendously proud of Hannibal over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made Hannibal an incredible experience for audiences around the world.”

NBC’s decision to pass on a Season 4 hardly comes as a surprise, given Hannibal’s eroding ratings. The June 11 episode notched a series-low 1.7 million viewers and a 0.5 in the demo.

CBS RENEWS "ZOO," SUMMER'S #1 SCRIPTED SERIES, FOR SUMMER 2016

CBS announced today the second season renewal of ZOO for broadcast during summer 2016. In its first season, ZOO was the most watched scripted summer series of 2015.

"ZOO's thrilling stories clicked with audiences each week during a very competitive summer," said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. "We're excited for viewers to see where our talented writers and cast take them as the adventure continues to unfold during season two in the ultimate fight of man vs. beast."

ZOO joins the previously announced series "BrainDead," a new one-hour comic thriller from Robert and Michelle King, and the next edition of the summer reality hit BIG BROTHER on CBS's 2016 summer line-up.

Based on the #1 bestseller by James Patterson, ZOO is a global thriller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans across the planet. ZOO is produced by CBS Television Studios. The series is distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution and worldwide by CBS Studios International. Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Scott Rosenberg, Michael Katleman, James Mangold, Cathy Konrad, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen are executive producers.

The first season of ZOO is now available on Netflix in the U.S.

Extant Cancelled at CBS

Now it can be said: Extant is extinct.

CBS has cancelled the Halle Berry drama after two low-rated seasons.

“CBS, Halle Berry and the producers have decided to conclude the Extant story after last season’s exciting and fitting conclusion,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment.

Added Berry: “I am so proud of what we accomplished on Extant. This season seemed such a natural place to end Molly’s journey that I, along with CBS, felt it best served the story to leave it there.”

Extant’s two-hour finale in early September drew 4.6 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, down 15 and 36 percent from its Season 1 closer and off nearly 60 percent from its lukewarm launch last summer.

NBC RENEWS HIT DRAMA SERIES "BLINDSPOT" FOR SECOND SEASON

Sullivan Stapleton and Jaimie Alexander Lead Stellar Cast as Tattoo Mysteries Continue

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Nov. 9, 2015 – NBC has ordered a second season of its hit freshman drama Blindspot, the #1 new series of the fall in the 18-49 demo.

With Sullivan Stapleton as an FBI agent who's not to be messed with and breakout star Jaimie Alexander now firmly established as a TV leading lady, Blindspot has proven to be both a ratings and critical smash. Since its Sept. 21 launch, the series has dominated the 10 p.m. Monday timeslot.

The Wall Street Journal says "Blindspot manages to exert instant powers of seduction and keep a viewer rapt," TV Guide says the series is "a sleek and exciting showcase for Jaimie Alexander's elaborately inked ninja," the Los Angeles Times writes that "Blindspot comes out of the box (or that darn bag) with tantalizing, high-energy grace" and USA Today calls it one of the top five shows of the fall.

"We are over the moon with the success of Blindspot, and want to thank our producers and amazing cast for creating one of the most riveting shows on television. Jaimie and Sullivan have done an amazing job of ratcheting up the tension each week in trying to unravel the mystery of Jane's tattoos," said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. "We literally can't wait to see what the second season will bring."

Blindspot is averaging a 3.7 rating, 12 share in adults 18-49 and 12.7 million viewers overall so far this season, according to "most current" averages from Nielsen Media Research through the season's opening six weeks, making it the #1 new series of the new fall season in 18-4. Blindspot is undefeated in the time period so far this season versus its broadcast competition in adults 18-49 and is outrating its ABC and CBS competition combined in that key demo.

Blindspot is also one of the most time-shifted shows on television, growing by +71% so far this season in adult 18-49 rating going from its next-day "live plus same day" rating to "live plus seven day Nielsens" (from a 2.65 to a 4.54) and by more than 5.7 million viewers overall (9.3 million to 15.1 million).

A beautiful woman, with no memories of her past, is found naked in Times Square with her body fully covered in intricate tattoos. Her discovery sets off a vast and complex mystery that immediately ignites the attention of the FBI, who begin to follow the road map on her body to reveal a larger conspiracy of crime while bringing her closer to discovering the truth about her identity.

The cast includes Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire, Strike Back), Jaimie Alexander (Thor: The Dark World, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Broadchurch, Without a Trace), Rob Brown (Treme), Audrey Esparza (Black Box), Ukweli Roach (The Royals) and Ashley Johnson (Much Ado About Nothing).

Writer Martin Gero (Bored to Death, L.A. Complex) serves as executive producer along with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Mysteries of Laura, The Flash), Sarah Schechter (The Mysteries of Laura, The Flash), Mark Pellington (Cold Case) and Marcos Siega (The Following). Pellington directed the pilot episode.

DICK WOLF EXTENDS DEAL WITH NBCUNIVERSAL THROUGH 2020

Legendary Drama Producer Reups With Company as Network Renews New Seasons of Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Med

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Feb. 1, 2016 – Iconic television creator/producer Dick Wolf has signed a new overall deal with NBCUniversal that extends his relationship with the network through 2020.

In addition, NBC has given an 18th season renewal for Law & Order: SVU as well as a pickup for the second season of Wolf's newest drama, Chicago Med. Both Chicago Fire (season 5) and Chicago P.D. (season 4) have previously been renewed.

Wolf is also in active development for the latest incarnation of the Chicago franchise, Chicago Law, as well as the reality series Law & Order: You the Jury, where the audience will decide the binding result of a live court case.

"Dick Wolf is without a doubt one of the greatest producers in the history of dramatic television," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. "The Law & Order legacy would have been enough to set him apart from all the rest, but the Chicago franchise now kicks him into the stratosphere. He has been a defining voice of NBC for over a generation, and he is most welcome at this company forever."

Added Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment: "I'm personally thrilled to be working so closely with Dick, and on behalf of everyone at NBC and Universal Television we are so happy to extend our relationship with all the incredibly talented people at Wolf Entertainment. His brand is pure quality, and our continuing partnership is not only great for us but even better for broadcast television."

"I've been in the same office, with the same phone number, for 30 years. I'm glad people won't have to learn a new one," Wolf said. "Staying was really a foregone conclusion. My partnership with Bob has been the best relationship I've ever had with the head of a network. He has also assembled a great team of executives at both the network and the studio who make it possible for the Wolf Entertainment team to turn out multiple shows. It is truly a synergistic group effort that makes me enormously excited about both the present and the future."

So far this season, Law & Order: SVU originals have averaged a 2.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 10.0 million viewers overall in L+7 results from Nielsen Media Research. SVU has built on its regular lead-in by an average of +45% in adult 18-49 rating (L+SD) and the Nov. 11 telecast generated SVU's most dominant head-to-head win to date versus time-period rival Criminal Minds, a +25% margin.

Chicago Med originals are averaging a 2.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.3 million viewers overall, according to L+7 results from Nielsen Media Research. In the Tuesday 9-10 p.m. ET slot, Chicago Med has prevailed over regular competition on the Big 4 networks with five of six telecasts to date in adults 18-49 (L+SD). Chicago Med has improved that time period by +58% versus NBC's slot average for the prior season, excluding weeks when The Voice ran in the slot in 18-49 and by +114% in total viewers.

Wolf, one of the most successful television producers of all time, is the creator of the Law & Order-branded series and is a two-time Emmy Award-winning producer. His company produced the Oscar-winning documentary Twin Towers and the Grammy Award-winning documentary on the Doors, titled When You're Strange. Wolf Entertainment currently produces NBC's Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med with Universal Television.

I loved "MacGyver", but Richard Dean Anderson was "MacGyver"! Not sure it will be like watching "MacGyver" without him as Mac.

MacGyver Reboot Pilot Gets Picked Up By CBS

Producer Henry Winkler's MacGyver reboot has been picked up by CBS, Variety reports.

First reported back in October, the new MacGyver will reportedly not be a continuation of the long-running drama series from the '80s and '90s but instead start fresh with a new and likely diverse cast.

The originally starred Richard Dean Anderson as a secret agent who disliked guns and instead relied on wits and guile. He was best known for being able to create weapons and escape strategies seemingly out of thin air.

The original reports claimed the series "will feature a 10 years younger protagonist. Twentysomething Angus MacGyver gets recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. The CBS series also is expected to chronicle how MacGyver acquired some of his famous skill sets."

Aquaman director James Wan is developing the series with original MacGyver producer Winkler and NCIS: LA executive producer R. Scott Gemmill. Wan will direct the pilot.

Not only has Warner Bros. previously tried to devleop a Young MacGyver series, but Wan himself tried to develop a similar concept as a feature film. MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff wrote a miniseries featuring the character for Image Comics in 2012.

‘Angel From Hell’ Pulled From CBS’ Schedule, To Be Replaced By ‘2 Broke Girls’

CBS is making a change on Thursday. Midseason series Angel From Hell, starring Jane Lynch and Maggie Lawson, is being cancelled effective immediately. It aired five episodes of its 13-episode order. Starting next week, the single-camera comedy will be replaced by multi-camera veteran 2 Broke Girls, which will return to Thursdays where it aired last season. (A Big Bang Theory repeat will fill Angel From Hell’s Thursday 9:30 PM slot this week.)

CBS opened a temporary comedy block in the Wednesday 8-9 PM hour in January to bridge the two installments of Survivor. The block, consisting of 2 Broke Girls and departing Mike & Molly, will wrap its run this week as Survivor comes back next Wednesday. 2 Broke Girls will make its Thursday season debut the following night, Feb. 18.

Angel From Hell, starring Lynch as a young woman’s (Lawson) caustic guarding angel, was originally slated to debut as part of CBS’ post-Thursday Night Football lineup in November but its launch was pushed to January. There had been rumors about creative issues on the high-concept series, which has drawn modest ratings by CBS’ Thursday comedy block standards, in the 1.3-1.4 rating range among adults 18-49 (live+same day).

The 2 Broke Girls move takes care of the remaining episodes of the 22-episode fifth-season comedy. There are also several episodes left of the 13-episode final season of Mike & Molly. They are rumored to air Mondays in the 8 PM hour after Supergirl ends its limited freshman run.

USA NETWORK RENEWS 'COLONY' FOR A SECOND SEASON

From Executive Producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan Condal (Hercules), Drama Stars Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) Co-Produced by Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Feb. 4, 2016 – USA Network announces a second season renewal for the Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Ryan Condal (Hercules) drama COLONY. From Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions, COLONY centers on one family's struggle to survive and bring liberty back to the people of an occupied Los Angeles. Starring Josh Holloway (Lost) Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead), episode four of the 10-part season one airs tonight at 10/9c.

"Carlton and Ryan have successfully delivered a story that tests the strengths and weaknesses of a society in duress, and the bonds of a family divided," said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. "COLONY's performance across all platforms has been impressive, and we can't wait to see where the story takes us."

Over its first three episodes, COLONY has seen an average combined L3 audience of 3.4MM P2+ (two same-night telecasts of each original episode). Additionally, more than half a million people sampled the series' pilot during a targeted, two-week pre-linear release on select digital platforms including USANetwork.com, Hulu, the USA Network App and VOD.

Set in the very near future, COLONY's world is a dangerous one of divided ideologies. While some choose to collaborate with the occupation and benefit from the new order, others rebel and suffer the consequences. After being separated from their son during the invasion, former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and his wife Katie (Callies) are willing to do whatever is necessary to be reunited with him. Thus, when the powerful Proxy Snyder (Peter Jacobson, House) offers Will a chance to get his son back if he will collaborate with the occupational government, Will and Katie find themselves faced with the toughest decision of their lives. They will have to go beyond whatever they thought possible, risking their lives and their relationship to protect their family.

The drama is a co-production between Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions. COLONY airs Thursdays at 10/9c on USA Network.

"BONES" RENEWED FOR FINAL FAREWELL SEASON ON FOX

Series Will Countdown to Finale With 12 Episodes to Air in the 2016-2017 Season

BONES Returns for Its Spring Premiere Thursday, April 14 on FOX

BONES, the long-running comedic procedural beloved by millions of fans around the world, will return for a final farewell 12th season on FOX, it was announced today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group. The 12-episode run will celebrate the inventive series and bring the storylines of Brennan (Emily Deschanel), Booth (David Boreanaz) and the Jeffersonian-FBI team to a close, allowing the show's loyal fans to say goodbye to these indelible characters. When BONES ends its run, the series will have completed 246 original episodes, making it one of the longest running FOX series ever.

"In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it's comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is BONES," said creator and executive producer Hart Hanson. "It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles and the most loyal audience in the world."

"This is for the fans! Thank you to everyone at Fox and, of course, Dana and Gary – for all your support," said series star and producer David Boreanaz. "Thank you to Hart, Stephen, Ian [Toynton], Michael and Jonathan. Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn’t have done it without you, Emily!"

"I am thrilled the show will have the ending it deserves for all of our amazing, loyal fans!," added series star and producer Emily Deschanel.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to have another season, so we can give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve," said executive producers and showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson. "Also knowing there is a Season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible - one we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of BONES."

"BONES has been part of the fabric of our network and studio for over a decade, and during that time it has attracted one of the most devoted fan bases we've ever seen. So it was extremely important to us and to Hart, the producers and the cast that we send the show off in a way that gives those loyal fans a meaningful and satisfying conclusion," said Walden and Newman. "We'd like to thank Emily and David for anchoring this extraordinary group of talented people, as well as Hart, Stephen Nathan, Barry Josephson and this season's showrunners, Michael Peterson and Jonathan Collier, for delivering such an incredible series season after season."

BONES returns for its spring premiere on Thursday, April 14 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Picking up after the explosive fall finale, the all-new episode, "The Death in the Defense," finds Hodgins (TJ Thyne) eight weeks into his rehabilitation and forced to navigate life in a wheelchair. Meanwhile, Brennan and Booth investigate the death of a public defender who had multiple defendants from previous cases with motives to kill her.

In the series, Brennan, a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and writes novels on the side, and her FBI partner, Booth, have taken on cases other law enforcement can't solve and proven to be a formidable partnership, both at work and at home. Over the course of the series, Brennan has devoted herself to her career, to Booth, with whom she's had two children, and to her team at the Jeffersonian. They include best friend Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin), an artist who specializes in reconstructing facial features and crime scenes; Angela's husband, Hodgins, a conspiracy theorist and expert on insects, spores and minerals, who is affectionately known as "the slime and bug guy"; Dr. Camille "Cam" Saroyan (Tamara Taylor), the street-smart and centered coroner; and Booth's most recent colleague at the FBI, Special Agent James Aubrey (John Boyd), a young, intrepid FBI agent with a voracious appetite for solving crime, junk food and career advancement.

Utilizing a wide swathe of skills, and using human remains as their roadmap, this exceptional team has cracked some of the toughest cases to cross their lab tables and, in the process, escaped near-death experiences on multiple occasions. Inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs, the series also has explored more ways for human remains to have been discovered than ever thought imaginable.

With Brennan leading the way as the top professional in the field of forensic anthropology, BONES has inspired young girls around the world to consider a career in science. At the same time, having stacked up more episodes than the number of bones in the human body (206!), the series has helped viewers distinguish between the patella (kneecap) and the phalanges (bones in human fingers).

The series also has proved to be a magnet for guest stars, including TV legend Betty White, '80s music icon and Tony Award-winning artist Cyndi Lauper (Kinky Boots), Zooey Deschanel (NEW GIRL), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Michael B. Jordan (Creed), Stephen Fry (24: Live Another Day), Sara Rue (Popular), ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons, Tina Majorino (Veronica Mars), Freddie Prinze, Jr. (24), Sam Trammell (True Blood), Morris Chestnut (ROSEWOOD), Penny Marshall (Laverne & Shirley), Taylor Kinney (Chicago Fire), Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), David Alan Grier (In Living Color), Rider Strong (Boy Meets World), NFL star Ronde Barber, FAMILY GUY's Stewie Griffin and SLEEPY HOLLOW's Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison.
