Ratings: CSI vs ... Part 2

And they're up!

Thursday 9 p.m.
CSI (CBS)
Viewers: 20.81 million (#1), A18-49: 6.3/16 (#2)

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
Viewers: 18.13 million (#2), A18-49: 7.4/18 (#1)

Disappointing, of course, but it still beat CSI's finale numbers, and the Lady Heather episode. And kicked GA's very, very sorry ass.

Ahaha woo! I'm just happy they're #1.

Overall I think they'll end up being in the #2 spot for the week.

Thanks for the stats again sarahvma...

I'm just thrilled they beat Grey's!!! Woo toot! Oh and I noticed we had a drop from last season with the second episode, but in season 7 the first epi was a too be continued. Sort of makes sense!

Yippee Skippy! I love seeing it beat GA.

They say the ratings for everything have been dropping again this season. So many people DVR and download eps that they do not count.

That should not be an excuse, because videocassette recorders have been around for a long time. Then there were DVD recorders. It is nothing new to delay viewing of an episode.

As one looks at the huge ratings drops for just about every show on TV, and the lack of any huge hits for new shows, it would appear that it's a very valid excuse indeed, and one that Nielsen, many networks, and people who have been analyzing ratings for years are using.

Eh, no problem at all! I loves my stats! Loves my stats!

Yeah but once you have a DVR or Tivo, there is no comparison to a VCR. I will use my DVR for things I would have never used my VCR for. Downloading shows you could not do a few years ago and I have several friends that do it that way.

Yeah, and a tape was always a little inconveniant. You had to go out and buy a set of them, make sure you set the VCR right (there was always some kind of issue sometimes with it just plain not recording) and then coming home, rewinding the whole thing, finding the spot, hitting play - maybe it's an old tape and you get lines, maybe the show was longer than the tape and it cuts off at a pivitol moment...

Tapes were a bit of a hassle, and it seemed you only really taped a show when you absolutely couldn't miss it.

Now I think people will just TiVo shows they think sound kind of interesting, or are on at times when they're watching or doing something else.

I don't think it's even close to being the same, because if it were at least one hit show would be getting over 30 million viewers right now, because back when tapes were all people had, quite a few were.

CSI did come second for the week with 20.97 million viewers behind Dancing With the Stars (which had 13.1 in households) and 12.8 in households. Grey's was third with 18.51 and 12.5 in households.

CSI did have the #1 total of viewers for the week, however.

Other Ratings Updates for this Monday from Marc Berman (with some of my own commentary thrown in)

14.14 million viewers and a 4.3/11 among adults 18-49 for CSI: Miami at 10 p.m. Comparably, still potent CSI: Miami was down by 3.46 million viewers and 25 percent among adults 18-49 from year-to-year (Viewers: 17.60 million; A18-49: 5.7/14 on Oct. 9, 2006).

Miami is down about 938,000 viewers and 6.2% from last week.

Dancing may have toppled CSI last week, but this week it got only 19.32 million viewers and a 4.9 rating/12 share in the demo. Compared to last week's 21.247 million viewers (down about 9%)

Heroes was also softer than usual, with 10.75 million viewers (#3) and a still first-place 5.0/11 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Last week they had 16.972 million viewers. That's down 37%, but keep in mind that NBC is doing the double-play trick. 11.94 million viewers was for their original broadcast. For anyone who doesn't know, Heroes has been doing a bit of a loophole where they repeat the same episode with the same commercials later in the week and are able to bundle the ratings for the two together to get their total. So in the case of last week, they managed to add over 5 million viewers to their total just by taking advantage of that rule. Rumors are that ABC might be trying this with a repeat of Grey's Anatomy on Friday, but so far there has been no confirmation.
