Re: Petersen Leaving! Who Gets Grissoms Position?

If you want to know more (and I really mean more as in spoiler-more) than check out the spoiler section. Or have a look at CSI Files there's also some more information about his character.

I agree with you AlienMonkey. I think the writers will try and make him part of the team first before they give him his "own" story line. At least I hope they'll do that.

Thanks for that, yeah, I've ventured into the spoilers section..First time since it came back up. thanks.

Re: Petersen Leaving! Who Gets Grissoms Position?

After reading the latest article by Kristin over at eonline, my worry over a potential "CSI Fishburne" has turned to relief. LF sounds a lot more grounded than I would have expected from a big-name star. That he is willing to come into this intended ensemble cast as a CSI-1 speaks volumes about his ego. Now that "CSI Grissom" is becoming just plain "CSI" again, perhaps the show can go back to the true ensemble it was the first few seasons. Cat as the boss is the right move. Perhaps TPTB will allow her to become more grounded as she takes on the responsibilities; no more hangin' 'round the local waterin' hole, trollin' for guys .
TPTB say they haven’t named the character yet and Kristin said they are open to suggestions. Not sure if she was serious, but here goes: I would like to see something like "Marcus Adamly" "Marcus" because his Mom liked Marcus Aurelius and hoped the name would encourage him to be a thinker (which he has become). And they could call him “Marc,” nice crisp name and unique to the lab folk.; "Adamly" (not Adams - too common, not Adamson – too obvious) because anyone concerned about his genes may have always thought about it more than most because he also bears, in part, the name of the purported first man, who had a child who killed his sibling. A little out there maybe, but a thought.

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

I think we need to be careful that we use this thread to discuss Fishburne joining the series and Petersen eaving, but not venture into spoiler territory. Everyone is asking some good questions, and some of the answers can be found in the spoiler thread, but we aren't supposed to put them in here.

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

Thank's rahkira for that insight, very interesting:bolian: here's a detailed history of Laurence Fishburne and all of his work & credits. And, he's 47, the same age that William Petersen was when he started CSI:eek:

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

I'm anxious to see L.F. with the rest of the cast. He's a good actor, I just haven't been able to imagine him as a CSI yet, it almost seems out of territory seeing a big screen actor amongst this beloved television cast. I'm a little torn over the switch, but I'll definitly be giving him & the character a chance!

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

Oh, okay. I thought Level 3 was the same as Lead. But, I guess Lead just means you can work a case alone?

Nope you can work a case alone at any level, but it's up to your boss.

I don't think they ever established what a Lead CSI would do.

In any case, I'm willing to give LF a go. I think he's a good actor and it will be interesting to see how he fits in and how it all plays out. Maybe it'll work and maybe it won't, unfortunately we won't find out until December or January.

You know, that is if we all make it through the first 10 episodes because most of them could be a whirlwind. Who knows. :)

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

Just for the sake of not being a pessimist, I'll try to give him a chance. I'll even go as far to say that I hope they don't do to his character like they did to Ronny Lake. They hype us up that they're getting a new CSI. And the viewers blew her off and dismissed her without actually getting a chance to let her character develop. Next thing we know, we don't see her anymore after Sara leaves. So I hope he doesn't start out on the front lines, then after a few episodes we don't see him again. But it will be interesting to see him coming in as a CSI-1. And not just any level one, but an older one at that. Maybe his storyline might revolve around the difference between him starting out, and when someone younger like Greg or Ronny Lake was starting out. You know, he might not start out with the same views as his younger counterparts. I know I'm speculating, but now that I've actually had time to think about him joining the cast, I figure it can't be too bad. The powers to be must know what they're doing.

Ronnie was only suppose to appear in 4 episodes, she wasn't going to become part of the cast or a recurring character. She was hired to be on the swing shift. Basically so Sara had someone to work with before she left.

Part of me is looking forward to LF. I'm really interested in seeing what tptb do with him and how he does. I think he's a good actor and I'm willing to give him a chance.

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

I'm definitely willing to give him a chance as well. He's an amazing actor and he can really deliver. I read recent interviews about his other roles in previous movies, and he seems like a really layed back, chill guy. People have said he's a joy to work with. Plus, we can see all of his wonderful acting talents through his many movie roles. I have nothin' but love for LF and I can't wait to see how he is utilized on the show.

Does anyone know if he signed a contract? And If he did, for how long is it?

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

LOL after watching that promo clip, now I can't wait for Billy to leave the show and to welcome Larry. I like Billy a lot, but man, what have they done to Grissom...

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

What have they done to him HMMM, he's happy, and contented and has what he wants, & won't be mopy and morose anymore as this character Grissom, and that's a positive thing:thumbsup:, and WP is still executive producer and will return for "guest spots" and will still have a hand in the shows, and I am looking foward to those CSI's. Not to take away from the new character, LF who has just stated "he's never watched CSI" wow that's pretty weird, I just assumed everyone has seen this show! I find that a bit strange, how can he jump into this not even knowing what has happened for 8 years? he's got alot of catching up to do!

UGH...
All of this Grissom worship is making me sick.:p and what they've done to Grissom is make him this unrecognizable character. I mean seriously. One of the main appeals of the show for many fewers was the way Grissom was PRE GSR. Now he's a love sick puppy, and I'm sorry, but thats not the way many people want to remember him on his last couple episodes.

As for the whold LF situation, who cares if he hasn't seen the show? There are people who do movies based on books without reading them. They turn out great. How is this any different?

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

^ I actually don't see the fact that he hasn't seen the show as a bad thing. Because he's not familiar with the show, he could bring a fresh change to it without being manipulated by what has happened in the past eight years. And who knows...changes aren't always bad. :D

I totally agree! I think the fact that LF hasn't seen the show is a great thing, it brings him in as a fresh set of eyes with no preconceived notions - exactly as his actual character is going to feel. I think it will actually make for a little more realism, where his character is concerned. And given LF's rather impressive resume pre-CSI, I have complete faith that he will do a magnificent job portraying his character. Now, that doesn't mean I have just as much faith in the CSI writers to do a bang-up job, that's a whole 'nuther story... :guffaw: Especially after viewing last night's promo...

I strayed away - and stayed away from the Vegas CSI somewhere around S6, when they turned Grissom into a cranky, judgmental old hypocrite (IMO, no offense intended). LF's arrival will no doubt bring me back into the fold, I truly am intrigued to A.) See what he can do with this role, and B.) Finally see a GSR-FREE CSI Zone. (Once again, no offense intended, but I know many other viewers who feel the same way).

I recall watching him play Ike Turner in "What's Love Got to Do With It", a truly unlikable guy, yet LF still managed to bring out the humanity in the man, not just portraying him as a one-dimensional drug addict and wife beater. Granted, he was portraying a real life person there, but in the hands of a lesser actor, it could have been horrible. Bring On Larry!!!

Re: Petersen Leaving! Larry Fishburne Joins Cast! *No Spoilers*

I have also seen him as Ike Turner, and it was actually a chilling performance! Very well done.

I also agree MBGrissom about the amount of faith we should give TPTB. With all do respect, they really haven't deserved it. After viewing the promo about fifty times, my thoughts remain the same. If I'm wrong about it, I'll gladly apologize. But, the transformation of Grissom is just another reason why I can't wait for LF to come. His clean slate might be exactly what the show needs. IMO, the best thing that TPTB need is a fresh eye to look at the storylines and put in their two cents.

I guess time will tell what's really going on...
