Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

Is anyone gonna stay from the cast or we'll have brand new characters by season 9? *sarcasm*

I know it's their own decision and I understand that, but still... WTF.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

Well said I totally agree.
I for one will find it very hard to follow the show quite so avidly as I think the Grissom character was unique and central to the success of the show.

I see, particularly from the posts just above, that those whose fav characters are one of the remaining cast will not be so bothered, naturally by WP departure. But without causing offense, good as those actors and characters are, none of them is up to carrying the show like Petersen was. Paul Guilfoyle is closest, but they will have to re-invent the show. I think the production team and writers are definitely of a calibre to do that sucessfully.

But it will be a different show, and we will have to wait and see if it will loose it's no1 spot worldwide. I suspect it will and Miami will take over. Pity. But it will still be high up the ranks I am sure, given the caliber of team there.

Spot on. This is why I don't think people should get too excited yet of more screen time for their favourite characters. Cos they will get a new lead in. Can't see how they could not. Paul Guilfoyle I actually see as one of the 3 leading characters anyway. So I ain't counting him! What I think they need to be careful with, is to not get someone that is too 'in yer face' right away. But they do need someone with presence again. Maybe they should look at Criminal Minds. I know it isn't the same, cos it'd only been going 2 years when Mandy Pitinkin went, but I actually think they got it spot on with Joe Mantegna (who I much prefer to Pitinkin anyway!).

Don't know bout Miami though taking over. If that became the most watched show on the planet in the next couple years, I'd lose the will to live.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

I've still watch ER all these years later after numerous cast changes and my faves leaving. What keeps me watching that show are the storylines. Overall it will be the same for me and CSI. .As long as the storylines are still interesting and there are still some faces I like, I will be sticking around.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

Billy was an accomlished actor before the show and Anthony Zuiker wrote the show's main character around Billy.

I guess Billy fans have hard time realizing that during the show, other viewers started to attach themselves to the other characters-hard to believe I know that not all of us felt so attached to Grissom.

I, for one, am just upset because it's THREE characters to leave the show in one season and to me that's just too much change at once as each of them brought something unique to the show.

As for good story arcs for the other characters, I won't be my house on it. I certainly think the writers over the years have shown that they are myopic on character development beyond Grissom (understandably he was the star of the show), Catherine and Sara.

But I will miss Grissom and his bugs and his quirkiness and his unique introspective on the world-that can't be replaced. In a town of gambling and mobsters, he was kind of a moral compass that kept the real world in a world of plasticity.

As for Billy, can't blame the guy for wanting to leave L.A.-I watch enough of these tabloids to wonder how he lasted without losing his freakin' mind.

Good luck Billy, don't stay away too long. And thanks for being there for George and Jorja when they got canned four years ago, you certainly made it possible for them to come back by telling Moonves that if they weren't hired back, you wouldn't be on the set either.

And I hope you certainly can keep CSI as good as it can be without Grissom.

And I hope one thing, the ongoing tension between he and Grissom can some how be resolved in that Grissom tells Nick that he never disappointed him. That's all I ask, but I guess for the writers it was too much.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

No offense taken, but I have to disagree with this. One of the most powerful episode's CSI had was "Gum Drops" and no there was no Grissom in sight. In fact if Grissom was on that episode it wouldn't have been as powerful as it was with Nick in the lead. And no I'm not saying this because he's one of my favorites.

Now, I will miss Grissom too. I always liked his character. He was just strange and out of the ordinary kind of character. No, the show will never be the same, but shows are never the same when the original characters leave. However, I feel bad for his fans, because I wouldn't want Nick to leave.

I'm not happy with seeing the Miniature killer come back. I mean are they going to rehash the same story that this will be the one that breaks him? The same way they did the exit for Sara? Come up with something more original.

I'll miss Grissom, but I think the show can still go on without him. How many seasons it has left, we'll have to see.

I wish Billy the best, but I don't really see him guest starring that much. I think once he's out there doing is stage thing again and the more he gets away from CSI, I don't know if he'll come back to do a show. However, I hope he does.

Every fan of CSI has to give it a chance after he leaves. Who knows it might be better, it might not, but it will be different. We all have to give the new characters a chance, however, they better not get more screen time then Catherine, Nick, Greg, Brass, et al.

And I hope one thing, the ongoing tension between he and Grissom can some how be resolved in that Grissom tells Nick that he never disappointed him. That's all I ask, but I guess for the writers it was too much.

AMEN, MyfutureCSI! AMEN!!!!!

I agree with you on every part there Gameface!

Except that I actually prefer Jason Gidien character to the David Rossi character. I *MUCH* prefer Joe Mantegna to Mandy Pitinkin! Does that make sense?! I have never liked "Mandy" in anything I have seen him in. Just not my cup of tea.

I too am going to get in my rocket and leave the planet if Miami becomes the most watched show.... it is fast paced, action but there is NOTHING novel in it.

CSI:Miami is Miami Vice with copy-cat CSI Vegas forensics. H is just not believable as a forensic expert when you've been exposed to Grissom.

Criminal Minds is right up there with CSI Vegas - but it will never be *as* popular as you have to have half a brain to follow it.And lets face it given the how popular 'realitycheap TV' is.........

Eeekk I am already think about the replacement in my heart to CSI Vegas.......:confused::confused:

I totally agree with you there RocketScientist. Since CSI LV won for the most watched show in Monte Carlo, I guess that means Miami isn't the most watch show.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

I'll miss WP but I always say: when you feel it's time for a change, go for it! Life's too short and you must do with whatever makes you happy and I guess WP felt it was time for a change.

I'm sure the writers and producers will do everything to make sure that CSI will remain the top show that it is and I'm curious to find out how they are going to pull that off with the new characters etc but I do know that I'll miss Billy because you can hire some great actors to fill the void but there's only one Grissom and I will miss the character as well as Billy.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

Guys, Billy will still do the behind the scene. He is still the Producers on the show. He will do guest star once in a great while throughout the season. Sara and Grissom will go off in the sunset.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

i'm just adding my twopence ;) I think that it is sad that Billy will be leaving as a regular, and, although Grissom is not my favourite character, of course the show will be losing a huge part of what it is. But it will go on, as Carol Mendolsohn said, it's a year of transition. I was shocked to see that he's leaving, but I guess not surprised. It will be sad, but I'm also not too upset (if that makes sense). I guess he will still guest appear, probably with Jorja, but it'll be interesting to see how the dynamic of the show changes. It's good that he's sticking around enough to co-produce still. I'm not surprised Sara will have something to do with his departure though.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

I agree with GNRF... let's bring Jon Schneider on! I've loved him since his days on the Dukes of Hazzard (well, the repeats I watched as a kid, anyway...), and I hope he's at least on the list for consideration.

This show's definitely going to change a lot, but I do think that Paul, Marg, George, and Eric can keep things going, as well as Wallace and Liz. I think things'll be okay, but it'll definitely not be anything close to what we got used to. Which could be a good thing, or a bad thing...

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

I liked Mandy in "Princess Bride" and he was okay on Criminal minds, but I too prefer Joe. Now if only they could find someone like him to replace Grissom. Or they could have a different person every week (like Bones is rumored to be doing to replace Zack).

I remember sitting on the floor in the living room with a tv tray (probably had Care Bears on it) and bro had a he-man tv tray and we'd eat dinner and watch Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider. Good times! :D To TPTB, please please consider John Schneider!

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

IMO, we've been so primed for WP's departure, with all his comments over the past few years, that I don't think his leaving will be as hard to deal with than if he'd just decided to go without any hints. He'll be missed, but I can think of a few potential replacements who would be totally different, so as not to be Grissom wannabes. One choice (like I have any say!) would be to bring in Lance Henriksen ("X Files" guest role that led to "Millenium" at the end of the 90's) because he's really good at cold, scary brilliant. My other choice, if BSG ends as theyre saying it will, would be Mary McDonnell; she did such a great job as the strong, cold-when-she-needed-to-be, but overall good character Laura Roslin, and wouldn't it be great to see Cath go head-to-head with another woman?
Anybody else have any favorites?

It is nice to see someone saying that. I know some "non-shipper" feel this would be perhaps too mushy - but I hope they do decide to live life for the living and no longer deal with the dead. It would be so novel actually to have your detective be rewarded in the end of a series - as boy do the writers put them through the ringer on a TV drama all for our delight at the entertainment of stress and angst! No real person would be able to deal with being buried alive in a persex coffin and then carry on in that job!

Talking of Nick, I think they have really matured that character. I also suspect that the actor George Eads will have learnt and adopted a lot of WP's 'ensemble' approach to working. And I think he will be seen in other shows/films once CSI has finished. Same with Eric too.

Re: Petersen leaves CSI for good

I could definitely see Lance Henriksen as the new undersherrif once McKeane is found out to be Warrick's killer, but I can't see LH as Grissom's replacement. I don't think he'd mesh well with the rest of the cast as a full time cast member. Mary McDonnell on the otherhand might work. Or maybe Amanda Tapping (Stargate). All the CSIs have male bosses, so it'd be nice if they gave the full time supervising job to Cath then at least one CSI show would have a female boss. I think the L&Os are that way. One of them has a female boss I think.

Too bad Richard Dean Anderson doesn't want to do TV shows anymore cause I think he'd fit in nicely with the LV cast. Harrison Ford would be good too, but we know that's not gonna happen anytime soon.
