Part 9
Danny was fuming the stone he collected from the Clark’s kitchen.
“Danny. Any luck?” Stella waltzed in.
“Let’s see.” Danny took the stone out. “Yep, a print.” He took photos and sent it into the AFIS.
Danny stared at Stella when they were waiting for the result. “You are happy!”
“I’m always happy. What?” Stella was puzzled.
“It’s good. I’m happy that you’re happy.”
“Thank you!” Stella put an arm around his shoulder.
The system beeped. They got a match.
“Andy Hudson. Vandalism and domestic violence. Ha! He lives next to our vic.” Danny said.
“OK. Let’s talk to Mr. Hudson.”
----------------------------------------
“Mr. Hudson. NYPD. Open up.” Danny banged on the front door.
“What do you want?” A lanky man opened the door. It was hard to imagine such a skinny man could brutally beat his wife unconscious.
“I’m Detective Messer and this is Detective Bonasera. We want to ask you some questions about your next door neighbor, Mrs. Clark. We know you broke her kitchen window with a stone.”
“If it wasn’t that nosy bitch, my wife wouldn’t leave me. She’s lucky I didn’t burn her house.”
“When did you break her window?” Stella asked.
“I saw her in the kitchen last night. I just made fun of her. Scared the hell of her.” Andy said with a satisfying smile.
“Did you see her this morning?”
“She was picking up the paper when I left for the park around eight.”
“You didn’t pay her a little visit?” Danny asked.
“Why? To give you guys another excuse to lock me up?”
“Ok. Turn around.” Stella said while she was taking out her cuffs. Danny stepped backward with his hand on his weapon.
“What is this?”
“Vandalism, for starter. If we proved you have anything to do with Mrs. Clark’s death? You’re facing murder. And I’ll be happy to send you straight to hell.” Stella cuffed him tightly.
----------------------------------------
Stella and Danny were walking by Mac’s office.
“Stella.” Mac waved a file to Stella.
“I’ll be in the trace lab with Lindsay.” Danny said.
Stella got into Mac’s office.
“It was Arsenic Trioxide poisoning.” Mac said.
“The leftovers are clean. The liquid in the glass is distilled water. It’s clean too. Let’s see if Lindsay got anything on the drugs.” Stella turned to leave but Mac stopped her.
“Stella, what time is the Christmas party in the lab?”
“Around four. What?”
“We’re leaving at five. Our dinner reservation is at seven.” Mac smiled.
“OK. Not much time for me to prepare though.”
“Come on, let’s finish the work first.” Mac left the office.
Stella followed him to the trace lab.
“Hey guys. I was about to call you. We found some white powder in a bottle of Vitamin E. Maybe the killer spilled it when he filled the capsules. Danny is testing it.” Lindsay said.
“Arsenic Trioxide. Bingo!” Danny announced loudly.
“Good. Let’s dust the bottle.” Stella put on her gloves.
Stella lifted several overlapping fingerprints. Mac separated them and compared them to the Clarks and Andy Hudson. The prints belong to the Clarks and some unknown donors.
“There maybe a dozen people had touched this bottle. How could we tell who the killer is?” Lindsay was upset.
“Not necessarily. The size of the bottle is small. I think it’s a sample package. It’s not in the market yet.” Stella said.
“Now is time to talk to Mr. Clark again.” Mac said.
----------------------------------------
Mac and Stella sat across from Wilson Clark in the interrogation room.
“Mr. Clark, did your wife take vitamins?” Stella asked.
“Yes. Organic food, distilled water, vitamins and other healthy stuff.”
“How about you?”
“No. I don’t like pills.”
Mac took out an evidence bag with the bottle of Vitamin E in it. “Why are your fingerprints on this bottle if you don’t take the pills?”
“You took it from my house. Of course my fingerprints are on it.”
“Where did your wife buy it?”
“She didn’t.” Wilson started shifting uneasily in the chair. “My friend gave it to me. What is this about? Am I a suspect?”
“We found trace of poison in this bottle. You want to tell my why?” Mac asked.
“What? What…what do you mean…” Wilson was shocked. “Oh, oh my god!”
“Who gave it to you?” Stella asked.
Wilson held his head with both hands. “My secretary. We have an affair. She wants me to file for a divorce. She said it’s a new brand’s promotional pack. Oh god! She knows I don’t take that stuff.”
Mac and Stella left.
“So much for bribing his stomach.” Stella said.
