I have the clip from the award show, but it has Chinese subtitles. lol. I'll see if I could upload it later. :)

Okay I am trying this in the JF/SS thread so I thought why not give it a try here to. New question for you all..

We know that every character on tv has certain traits such as flaws, this is what allows us to fight for and care about the character, their strengths and weaknesses, what traits of Catherines drew you to her or made her identifiable to you and why?

And lets actually discuss this and not just say "because she's hot" or whatever.

Okay, well apart from the fact that she's hot, lol.

1. Her sense of justice. Catherine is always searching for the truth, and she always is trying to get justice for those that have been wronged. Even if she has to do something that she may not like or want to do (talking to Howard in After the Show, or flashing the guy in Season 7) she does it to get the bad guy.

2. Her loyalty. She has real loyalty to those around her, especially Grissom. She's always been there for him, and for her coworkers, when they've needed her the most.

3. She makes no apologies for who she is or what she's done. People are always questioning her on her appearance, her work, her prior life as a stripper and her worth as a woman, and Catherine makes no apologies for anything she's done. She may have taken the hard way to get to where she is, but she's not ashamed of herself or what she's had to do to support her daughter.

4. She's sassy, brassy, has a great sense of humor, adores her daughter, has a great sense of justice and is always there when you need her. What's NOT to love about her??

great question Destiny. Here is how I will answer that.

Other than I knew I was watching the show because of Marg, I was drawn to the character of Catherine Willows because:

1. She wasn't a "dumb blonde" character. Catherine is very street-wise, and not the typical 'science geek'. I think it was best shown in $35k OBO when she meets Paul Newsome.

Cath: Then what am I looking at?
PN: That would be sheetrock.
Cath: Drywall. But what about this layer right here?
PN: When they installed the original drywall they used half-inch and then, when they came back and repaired it, they used quarter of an inch.
Cath:What, was quarter inch on sale that day?
PN: Look, Lady, I don't know what it is ...
Cath: Catherine.
PN: Sorry.
Cath: Don't say, "sorry" just know who you're talking to.
PN: When they applied the second layer and then they spackled it and they painted it the difference wasn't noticeable.
Cath: It's noticeable now.

He at first tried to "dumb it down" for her, but she quickly asserted that she knew what she was talking about. I also remember Anne Donahue talking about the episode Boom, where we see that it's Catherine who is giving out the most information about bombs. Anne mentioned that the original script had Catherine mentioning she had taken a course about bombs with the Feds. It was later edited, because by that point it had been already established that Catherine knew a lot more than most people would expect.

2. She's not ashamed of her past. The stripping, the drug use, etc - she doesn't make apologies for what she's done to make her way through life. She had the guts and strength to get out and make a better life for herself and her family.

3. She doesn't give up on her looks or her sexuality just because she's a scientist. She's able to use it to her advantage at times and, again, makes no apologies for it.

4. as Anne said above, she's very loyal. How else would you explain her long friendship with Grissom - someone who is totally her opposite in demeanor and many other ways, but yet she sticks with him, urging him along in life. And she's done it for all of her other team members as well - Nick being in trouble in Boom, Catherine stepped right in and took charge to keep him from being wrongfully accused. When Sara broke up with Hank, Catherine was the one who was right there to offer her a distraction, and I'm sure commiserate with her on the subject of cheating men. Catherine was the one to bring Greg on a case in an investigator-type capacity(After the show). Most of that is attributed to her mothering instincts. Look at how she took an extra moment to ask Doc Robbins if he was okay with doing an autopsy on a lady he knew and admired (lying down with dogs), and her loyalty still to Sam, even after his death (remember her reaction to Greg's comment in living legend- "my father was not a mob guy".) Even after everything she went through with him - finding out he was a murderer, finding out he was her father, then in living legend finding out from Mickey Dunn that Sam was watching out for her even when she was a young girl - she still didn't want anyone else talking bad about him, even though she still got in a dig every now & then (such as the cross dressing carp) in response to the construction guy's "these casinos weren't built by saints, you know" she quips "Oh, I know. My dad built this one."

I'll add my 2 cents here...

First of all, I agree with everyone's assesment of Catherine so far. The main thing is she isn't ashamed of her past. I think it adds to her character and it brings something to her work the other's don't nessicarily have; Life Experience.
Althoght this is not meant to be a comparison by any means but Catherine can and does deal with people better than Grissom and the other lead woman, Sara.

She also owns her sexuality which also makes her a strong confident woman. She knows how to deal with men and she isn't afraid to take them down a peg or two, including Grissom. Example : Slaves of Las Vegas and the converastion between her and Lady Heather about death being a mans world and she acknowledges that men shove around their weight all day (I can't remember the quote exactly, but it's something to that effect  )

As for men, she sometimes does wear her heart on her sleeve and I think she surprises even herself how vunerable she can be. Case Viva Las Vegas when she caught Chris cheating on her, she was visably upset and I think that wasn't the recation she thought she would have.
As for Keppler, she saw something good in him when no one else did. That's part of her personality, she's good a reading people and she saw that he eventually would 'land on the side of good' as she told Grissom.

I'm not sure if she is the antithesis of Grissom since they both can fling sarcastic remarks but she is different from him. She is more outgoing and like I said, deals with people differently. While Grissom is more introverted and keeps his emotions to himself, she is obviously more vocal on lots things and tries to help him do the same. That is part of what makes her and Grissom so effective in leading the team. She brings something he doesn't and vise-versa.

I think that is all for now, I'm sure I'll find some more attributes I love about Catherine Willows.

^ LOL you saw it in my LJ. I haven't posted it anywhere else. You can use it if you still want. I've changed my own sig. :)

Oooh I thought I saw it at margamania @LJ. This time I'm not going to say "Oh, you shouldn't have changed your signature, you can use it if you want to", because IIII want to use it

See, I'm selfish, but a Marg fan. Which makes things better :p

Thank you Erica <3

I would have bet :D All the dirty icons come from Erica :D I've been staring at it for like 5 minutes *drools* I'm gonna have to rewatch Weeping Willows.

Who me? Dirty?

*polishes her halo* No way. I'm the most innocent Marg fan you've ever seen! *puts on the sweetest smile*

LOL it's just February 7th, but I can't wait to see if there will be any pics of the March 5th event already. :D

Ok, so I haven't been on for a while, and I'm kinda behind, so I thought I'd add my bit about why I was drawn to the character of Catherine.

Firstly, she oozes confidence, wherever she goes she just has this aura that seems to follow her wherever she goes. Secondly, she knows who she is, I know the quote from slaves of las vegas has been used, but 'by knowing who i am' she said to lady Heather there, and you can tell she does know herself, and isn't ashamed about her past- I think it just adds to the strength of the character.

She is extremely loyal, an example when Nick was in trouble over the whole Kristie (sp?) thing, Catherine was there for him, she's always there for the team.

She has a great sense of humour, I mean some of Catherine's lines are the best on the show!
