"Man Up" Discussion *SPOILERS*

I'm actually surprised that they didn't play upon Greg's long ago comment that he's somewhat psychic lol. They could have easily played upon that being the reason he was so convinced that the girl in the picture was dead. Because she actually was... its just that picture was more of a preview of what her death was going to look like or like a foreshadow of what was to come only days later. For that matter, they could have also mentioned just for "trivia" purposes that some cultures believe that when/if someone takes a picture of you it's bad luck/captures your soul.

I wouldn't call it condescending. I saw it as usual office antics. At my own work, when such friendly debates take place, there will often be similar 'attacks' in order to gain an advantage in the discussion and to prove ones point. The key is to keep it friendly and seeing as how Mandy herself did not appear perturbed by Greg's verbal jab, it looked like it was something that often happened between them. She can probably dish it out just as well.

Yeah, I agree with you, PC. I would honestly bet every penny I had on the fact that the writers intended it to be nothing more than a playful debate among friends/co-workers. I don't think it would have made sense for the writers to have it be in the "one character being cocky toward the other" way (given that they didn't have the other character reacting to that). If they intended it to be that way, then surely there would have been a reaction from her. She seemed unphased, which tells me that she knew it was meant to be a playful, friendly teasing.

Greg did say "No offense, Mandy" before his comment. And like you said, PC ... he was just trying to debate his point. So maybe COMPETITIVE would be a more accurate word. And there's nothing wrong with a little competition amongst friends. :)

It also appeared to be meant to temporarily confuse the viewers as well... because at first it looked like Greg was right, but then it turned out that the picture was actually faked. All in all, I'd call it a draw/tie. They were all half right regardless of their opinion on the picture. The girl was in fact dead, but the picture was in fact a fake.

Yes i agree to GNRF and PC , surprise:p That scene is my fave scene in the episode.I didn't mind who was wrong or right, if the pic was real... I just took the scene as a friendly interaction and they all seem having fun to me.

Yep, well in a job like theirs, they kind of have to find something to do to keep the job from getting to them too much lol. Hence being on that website in the first place lol.

I agree. I don't think Greg was being mean when he said what he did. We also don't know what transpired in the room before that scene.

I believe that our feelings about a character really impact how we view their words and behaviors. If it's not a favorite character, then what they say may be viewed in a harsher light, as opposed to if it is a favorite character.

I know I'm guilty of that and sometimes come here to hear the discussion on the scene to put it in more perspective. The one scene that jumps to mind is the infamous 'hour glass' scene earlier this season. Everyone had their own thoughts and they were tainted by their feelings for or against Ray.

It's my belief that the Mandy that made Nick sing for his results in an earlier season would not have let Greg get away with being too snarky or condescending. She can hold her own with the CSIs. Glad to see her back!

The guys from Chi-town were jerks. But again this is CSI and everyone is a suspect until Brass tells you otherwise.

And living in Chicago, I couldn't help but notice that the address supplied for one of them was for a non-existent street. :rommie:

I thought the episode was fine. Nice to see Hodges moving on and even taking on a case of his own, even if he sort of backed into it. I also find it interesting that most of the characters seem to treat him as basically a friend these days, which is a far cry from their attitude towards him from even a few seasons ago.

The Greg & Nick storyline was fine. For some reason I thought it was a little uncharacteristically mean of Nick to essentially give away the victim's boyfriend's money like he did ("Keep the chips. All of them."), but other than that the story worked. I was a little apprehensive when I heard Carrot Top was going to be in the episode, since I generally do not find him in the least bit funny, but even his part worked. Now if the producers can only get Penn & Teller to do an episode....

Overall, I'd rate this episode about a 7.5. Not a great one, but still entertaining.

Mandy's been holding her own against the CSI's for over ten years now, and she knew Greg back when he was still a lab rat too. So yeah, I'm with the people who believe she wouldn't have taken any "real" attitude from him. :)

I thought that was a bit much too - especially when it turned out the guy had nothing to do with her death.

I doubt if there was any way the guy could have gone back later and gotten the money back anyway. And rather than being "mean", I'd say Nick was more angry at the thought that the guy was forcing his girlfriend to prostitute so he could laze around the house and go out gambling all night, not to mention thinking he had killed her too.

Got to watch this again as we had company on Thursday and lots of gabbing. so my SUMMARY of this episode;)

A case..The hooker posing like she was dead, and then she was. Great to see Nick and Greg working together as always the $100 bet  Also great to see Archie and Mandy on the case, and Ray and Hodges~

B case.. Hodges and Ray working together funny Ray trying his best to figure out Hodges , he doesn't really understand him [who does[ but tries. Hodges getting punked by buying a motorcycle at a swap meet:rolleyes: Ray:: "You bought a vintage bike at a swap meet"? Hodges:: "He had honest eyes and a firm hand shake" Ray pointing out all the bogues flaws. Ray is an expert on bikes as it showed in "Hog Heaven".. so that goes to show that Hodges would go to him for his expertise. Hodges:: "I got suckered"? Ray:: "Yes you did", Ray finds the severed finger gross:(

Nick and Greg interviewing the sleazy boyfriend what a loser and a creep as well~

Cath discovers the two dresses were different from looking at both photos~

Carrot Top, colorful character involved but in a not knowing innocent way. I've seen his act, and he's funny with his suitcase full of tricks:rommie:w/ Brass and Nick talking to him Brass so funny, "Take us on your wild ride"~

Hodges and Ray with the similar plaid shirts:rolleyes: When has Ray ever worn a plad/checkered shirt? He always wears pastel dress shirts. Out of character, but maybe bonding with Hodges part of that. The bus accident and Hodges telling Ray about a similar incident, involving a Volkswagon. Ray "Sounds like an urban myth"~

Cath and Greg and the costume jewerly, emphasis on "costume" and her Spartacus story. Greg and the dress up Spartan how he got slammed and 3 guys were involved.~

Hodges and Det. Vartann in the wrecking yard, damn that's the biggest place for broken vehicles I've ever seen :wtf: So Hodges is out in the field, but we never saw him ride the bike:confused:The two wonderful owners [talk about low-lifes], Hodges asks about the bus crash and finds the busses and evidence~

Nick, Greg & Archie who finds 3 disturbing photos. So 3 friends & one, Scott who wasn't up to par on any level according to him and them~

Ray and Hodges go see the dead biker's girlfriend. Her and Hodges exchanging niceities and Rays expressions were hilarious:guffaw: Her ramblings funny and she tells Hodges "You remeind me of Peter" he goes "Thank you" was that a real compliment? How far did he go she asks "Ray "2 miles"

So Brass and team find the 3 guys he goes "Larry, Curly & Moe" So, they were all involved but the loser of the 3 Scott actually did it. Brass also got rought with the boyfriend in the casino and slammed is had on the table.:bolian:All he was doing was using her as a cash cow~

Hodges goes back to the wrecking yard and accuses the owners of knowing about the bus/bike crash [one of the fingers was one of their's] Guy "How'd you find out"? "Hodges "I followed the evidence"~

Cath and Nick counting Ambers cash deposits then re-inactinting Amber with him at the bar. She called him stupid and laughed at him, so he followed her to the ATM, ofered her $10,000 to pose again took her back to the original site and strangeled her. "It felt good":( them uploaded the photo "I was finally calling the shots" Brass and Nick's exchanging glances stellar.~They arrest him and his friends are up for charges too. They're shocked and watch him as he walks by:(

Nick paying Greg "what are you doing, you won the bet" Nick "All bets are off, nobody wins here"

I liked this episode, a different twist. The writers are always on top of their game:thumbsup:

Did any one you notice Hodges motorcycle "outfit", does any biker wear this kind of attire. The helmet alone so silly:rolleyes:

I actually chuckled at that part. That guy seemed to have a gambling problem anyway and maybe this incident will teach him a lesson and actually help him kick the habit.

Nick and Greg making that bet made me miss Nick and Warrick's friendship.

I like that Nick gave Greg the $100 back and it didn't bother me that Nick gave away that guys money.

I felt Nick's main problem with the "boyfriend" was that, so soon after her death, he was down there gambling again. Yes, I know gambling is an addiction, and yes, I know there are many ways of getting over a loved one's death, but c'mon. As Nick said, "This is how you grieve?" I didn't find it too harsh at all. The guy needed a reality check because clearly his values weren't in the right place.

Now, if not too harsh, did it lack realism because it was unprofessional behavior? Probably. Neither a CSI nor a police officer would be likely to do something like that, given the potential repercussions if the guy reported them.

It was great to see Mandy back, and overall I enjoyed this episode. The cases were intriguing, and they used science to solve them, in old-school "CSI" way. I also appreciate the strong vibe of camaraderie that has returned this season. To quote my husband, this season is really growing on me!

Yeah, the guy was an insensitive jerk, but that doesn't justify shoving him around and essentially stealing from him. Maybe that's just how he deals with his loss - losing himself in something familiar to take his mind off it. Or maybe he wasn't "grieving" that much anyway, because they weren't that close - after all, he didn't mind her turning tricks. I can see how his reaction could raise their suspicion, but I don't see it justifying their harshness with him - whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?

Technically speaking, just because Nick shoved the chips at the dealer it doesn't mean the dealer has to take them. That would be left up to the casino and whether or not they viewed it as the boyfriend abandoning his chips. Also, if they were already on the table and in play, then they're forfeit no matter what if the player leaves. Yes, Nick was a little aggressive here. He is known as the emotional one. But there is no indication that the boyfriend lost his money. The casino may have paid him back.
