Does anyone know if Mac has an official rank? Horatio's a Lt. but is Mac one too? Or have they never said for sure? I wonder if he's just plain detective and crime lab head or not.

I am not positive, but the Wikipedia page for Mac says that his job title is CSI Level 3 / Supervisor Head of NYPD Crime Lab and that his rank is Detective First Grade. I hope that helps.
