That's funny...you see, Springmoon and Orison...the line, heh,...that's where you both got it twisted. Apparently, you all didn't get the memo...so be on NOTICED...Hill and I are happily together...and there's no lines about it! ...so move along or rather MOVE AROUND!
I didn't get this memo you're talking about but I did get a hug and a few nice words from the guy so he knows I exist. I'd say that puts me in a better position...
Wow, tish, I think you might find a lot of girls on the board battling you for the title of Mrs. Harper. I think it's best if Hill gets shared the same way Carmine does. There's plenty to go around. I mean, hey, look at my username and I don't even know who's taking their turn with my internet husband today and I'm cool with that. I think Hill deserves the same variety of action Carmine gets. We've all got a lot of love to share.
Yes but I'm just so happy he is getting some good screen time. TPTB seemed to be finally listening to us. They just need to remember to keep it coming. We can take it.
Oh dear - our thread is on the second page after last night's amazing performance? We cannot have that!!
I was so impressed with Hawkes last night - very nuanced, and excellent backstory. And forceful!Sheldon threatening his former boss? Fantabulous.
Now, I was wondering about the root of the argument - do you all think that there is more to the backstory and that we may see more of the chief of staff of the hospital? He accused Sheldon of being overly empathetic with his patients. Isn't that something that is necessary for the care of patients, even as a surgeon?
Also, does anyone else think that Hawkes gave up too easily in walking away from a promising career as a surgeon?
I'm so glad to see someone posted! I almost cried for Hill as I scrolled toward the bottom of the page and thought no one had posted after last night's fantastic performance. Hell, Carmine sees one minute of screentime last night and his threads are moving at the speed of light today. (Hill, honey, let me give a tip: on this board, we value man-whores above all else. If you want more love, it'll apparently cost you a bit of skin. )
I am really sad. I missed chunks of Hill's dialogue last night due to a banana eatting smut fest with the girls. There did seem to be a lot of tension between Hawkes and the hospital chief of staff. I wonder if we'll see more of that or learn any background on that. What happened when Hawkes lost a patient? Did the hospital support him, or make him feel it was his fault?
I imagine that if Hawkes were particularly empathetic with his patients, it would make the job very difficult. Sure, you want a doctor who cares, but there's definitely a line. A doctor can't take his patient's pain home with him or he'll go crazy.
I don't think Hawkes gave up his career as a surgeon too quickly. You have to follow your heart. If his was broken up over his job, it was probably best to move on.
Well, that's good. A fact that an episode doesn't have to shine on Mr.Machismo, Danny Messer. Even if this storyline comes out bad for Hawkes, at least for once it doesn't have to be about Danny!
I better watch out for that ep on April or May. Damn, finally, Hill gets time to shine. Yeah, I agree with y'all. If Hill wants to catch further attention, a little skin won't hurt...
I loved seeing a bit about Sheldon's history in "Here's to You, Mrs. Azrael," but at the same time it raised even more questions!
I liked the tension between Sheldon and whatever-his-name was, the doctor guy. He obviously felt that Sheldon had talent as a surgeon, but at the same time he was very condescending. And the way he looked down his nose at Sheldon's new 'job' made me angry. So, arsehole, you don't think a person means anything once they've died? I know that death is part of being a doctor, but the way he just dismissed the girl was heartbreaking--it was like 'oh well, we lost one, clear her out so we can bring in someone else.' Sheldon telling him that the girl had a name was very indicative of his character. Yes, he's empathetic, but I think I'd rather be too empathetic than be a cold bastard like whatever-his-name-was.
The conversation in the locker room was very nice as well. From the way I understood his mention of the Hippocratic Oath, he took on three high-risk surgeries because he was exercising his right to learn. Even if those people would have died anyway, you know Sheldon had to feel at least partly responsible for their deaths (not sure if it was only one or if it was two...they didn't specify). I doubt that he was ever complacent, but he might have been overly-confident of his abilities and of the power he had as a surgeon...it's an interesting thought.
Danny was very right when he said that Sheldon was still a doctor, and I'm glad that the scene at the end showed Sheldon this. He might not be in the emergency room or performing difficult operations, but he's still the same man, if only changed for the better.
I hope we learn more about Sheldon's past. This episode gave us a little peek, and now I'm wondering about the rest.
And forceful!Sheldon threatening his former boss? Fantabulous.
No, I don't think so. Sheldon was very young, and probably idealistic. He's also a very sensitive soul, and I imagine that he couldn't have anticipated how much each patient would personally affect him. And, like MrsG said, it was time for him to move on. He'd taken what he thought was the right path for his career, but it didn't work out. According to cbs.com, Sheldon graduated from college at 18 and was a certified surgeon at 24. That's very young to have to handle so much stress and pressure, not to mention the emotional toll. Also according to the site, he left after 2 years, so I don't think it was a hasty decision. I think that one death might have been the final straw, but the decision was surely a long time coming.

The episode mentioned by tanglewood14 is episode 3.11 and airs on November 29.
In this episode, titled "Raising Shane," Shane Casey makes his return and frames Hawkes for a robbery (I believe someone was shot as well). The team apparently gets pulled off of the case but somehow work to clear Sheldon's name...
