Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Wow, you ladies have been busy since I last posted :D

Thanks for your thoughts everyone on 'Simple Man' - I certainly agree with you all. You're welcome (as always) for the pics :) and I look forward to what happens in the future with the H & Y arc ;)

Well, here we are at the end of the weekend, so time for a weekend H pic to take our minds off that it is Monday tomorrow *sigh*

As Luce posted that pic from Cross Jurisdictions (which I agree was a great introduction to H, especially when he talks to the little girl :D ), I chose another one from that epi, as it seems to be a favourite ;)

Enjoy :D

great pics guys :D love H in Cross Jurisdictions, so young and innocent. this back to the beginning is really one good way for waiting S5 premiere ;)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Lovely pic wibble. :D

I guess that 'Dispo Day' is up next for you? That is also a fantastic episode. Almost an ensemble piece. All the characters feature prominently and it's a terrific story. :)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Beautiful pic, wibble.
I haven't been in here lately and it's good to know that you've seen 'Simple Man,' I think you'll find, in later episodes, the whole H/Y story-arc rather addictive. ;)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

I can't believe they have trading cards for CSI:M. HOLY CRAP. Now I want to go find these. I have kinda a fettish for trading cards and went nuts collecting the Star War ones. I gotta buy books yet for this fall semester. Taking a full load but they are general education classes for my computer forensics degree. Anyway I love Lucy's pic of the trading card. Yum...Horatio is looking fine. I even like his little tummy bulge and have this uncharactoristic urge to pinch it. If I did that he would probably not be too pleased with me at all.

I assume at this late stage in the game I will have trouble finding these cards. bloody 'ell!

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Glad that you liked the pic Rebecca. The Trading Cards are available from StrictlyInk.com. Series 2 is released next month I believe, but Series 1 is still available. They are really worth having and some of the pictures are wonderful. They are often pics that I've not seen before. You can sometimes get them from Ebay too. :)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Oh Lucy,.....I checked out that site you posted. I am so tempted but pounds are much more than dollars. I am gonna need to compair with what is available in the US to buy. Might be cheaper, might not be. Anyway I am going to be interested in buying box sets not cases. (Holy Crap!). I love getting the box and opening up each packet and piecing together sets and chase cards. Ohhhhh...I am somewhat drooling at the posibility.

*back to talking about Horatio so I can make this post legal. Selling Horatio on Ebay...ummm..that could be good*

Something that has bugged me in season 3 and 4. Horatio always calls Ryan "Mr. Wolf" never calls him by his first name but calles the other people on his team by their first names. Why does he do this? If he treated me this way (If I was the new member of this team and he did not call me by my first name) I would have to have a talk with him. I would ask him to please call me Rebecca. If he continued to fail to honor my request (sign of lack of respect here) I would feel the need to point out how this singles out the person making them feel not part of the team. What do you think? (Okay my roommate and I had this conversation already)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

For me Horatio is a very complex character and it's not easy to analyze him. As ryan-fan I thougt about it and I came to the following possibilites:
- maybe ryan needs to gain H's respect. Ryan made a few huge mistakes in the past (for ex. talking to the reporter, the incident in 'recoil',...) which normally result in consequenses. Now Ryan has to prove that he is a good CSI.
- H wants to keep distance to the newest member of his team. Speed's death was hard for him and I think that they were friends. He knows that it could happen again. He could not cancel the existing friendship with calleigh, eric, alexx and all the others but he doesn't want to have new friend.
- maybe he likes 'Mr. Wolfe' better than 'Ryan.'

I don't think that he makes it intentional to hurt ryan or that ryan must think that he's not a part of the team.
If this was the case ryan would not say H or Horatio to him. He would say Lt. Caine.

In the German versions they often changed 'Mr. Wolfe' to 'Ryan'.
In German it's more complicated because 'you' has two meanings. like 'tu' and 'vous' in French.

I hope that I didn't burn my fingers...
*runs away and hides*

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

inge, what you say is pretty valid. No need to run away and hide. I wanted to stimulate conversation about this particular quirk of Horatio that bothers me. What I do know is that if my boss singled me out that way I would need to know why. I would also have a conversation with him requesting that he call me by my first name. In a team enviroment it is important that eveyone on the team is treated equally. Also real life and my experiences dictate that this is not always so, hence why I would "confront the issue" in a professional manner. I am the type of person that attempts to 'nip it in the bud' before contention or problems errupt. I have spent over 20 years working in a male dominated field so I know how to communicate well with men.

*Okay, I just wanna hear him say my first name. The silly part of me says*

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

I also think it's just one of those quirky things that H does. I honestly think that he enjoys saying Mr Wolfe! I agree with your points though, and it may have alot to do with the fact that Ryan is still the newbie CSI. :)

Glad you guys liked the pic :D

Yeah, I actually watched that episode the other night, and I agree it's really good! :D Great story (though poor Speed :( ), and loved the character development, especially with Horatio. I think it was really nice the way he backs his team and doesn't doubt them for a moment. Even when he knew the reason why Speed had got shot, he didn't blame him or have a go at him for not cleaning his gun. On the contrary, he made Speed feel better by giving him a gun cleaning kit, and I'm sure H was just glad Speed wasn't seriously hurt in the end. Now how many bosses would be that understanding and sympathetic to that kind of work-related incident?

Also, you can tell Calleigh was really upset about the drugs thing, and was desparate for H to know she was innocent. H saw right through everything at once, and guess something else must have happened to make her test positive for Cocaine. H has good gut instincts ;) and this also shows his loyalty to his staff, and that he is determined to follow his instincts to get to the bottom things, no matter what he has to do. This we see even more clearly in 'Simple Man' when we walks the 'low road' and makes up that story about his grandma to get out of court and go catch the criminal properly.

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

There's a couple of episodes in S3 where H does call Ryan by his first name. 'Cop Killer' comes to mind right off the bat. And I was thinking he called him Ryan in 'Urban Hellraisers' from S4 too...but I may be remembering wrong. ;)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

wibble, I love your take on Dispo Day. You said everything I've been thinking about that episode for a long time. It truly showed Horatio's loytalty to his team. In a way, it also showed his team's desperate need for approval from Horatio. Even a small compliment from him to his team means so much to them. An example would be, when Horatio says "Good work" or something to that effect to Calleigh in Dispo Day while she's showing Horatio all the bullets that she's collected.

That being said, in season 4, Horatio's team has become increasingly independant, and they don't need that assurance from their boss to know that they're doing an excellent job. It's quite a contrast from seasons 1 and 4.

But anyway, I loved the development in Dispo Day, and we really see that Horatio cares for his team. He almost gives fatherly support to Speed, who really needed that at the time. It's something that I've always liked about Horatio. Even in the most difficult situations, he thinks about others and not about himself. He doesn't judge people for how they are, or what they've done and a character like that is a breath of fresh air.

I just hope the writers redeem that aspect of Horatio, because it was very appealing to the audience. :)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Thanks speed_cochrane. Yeah, that was one of the other things I was trying to say in my previous post, that the team really like H's approval and you can tell from the look on Calleigh's face when he praises her about the bullets that she's pleased :)

I agree about H's fatherly figure to Speed, and likewise I hope they keep this aspect of H alive as long as possible.

I also enjoyed the scene with Yelina, where again we see H looking awkward ;) The way Yelina looks at him is almost like she's teasng him

Anyway, I try to bring pics from Dispo Day later on :)

Re: Horatio's Thread #5 - Will The Real Horatio Please Stand

Thanks for the Ryan/Mr Wolfe info Thumpy. :)

Just a quick question wibbs - have you listened to any of the dvd audio commentaries? The one for 'Dispo Day' is very interesting and entertaining if you get a chance to listen to it. It gives some fascinating insight, and you get to know what the writers are thinking.

I also love what Elizabeth Devine says during the 'coffin dusting' scene. ;)
