I managed to find the article that Marns kindly pm me so here it is for all to see it has been translated to English.
HEY, HOW ARE YOU?
'I'm good! We're working on the seventh season. It's a lot of work, you know. A season has 24 episodes and I always compare it to a marathon. You have to be in good shape to work the whole 10 months. It's important to find rest in your life, so you can fully concentrate on work. That's why I never see my family and I don't have a girlfriend! I do have 22 cars, but they never talk back, hehehe. But seriously, I'm completely focussed on my job. I'm married to CSI and I've put so much blood, sweat and tears into the show that it means a lot more to me than just work.'
WHAT DOES CSI MEAN TO YOU?
'CSI is my life. You have actors who say their family comes first and than their job, but that doesn't count for me. CSI is on the top of my priority list and then my family and friends. (I don't believe this!) The two months a year we don't shoot the show, I'm still busy with it. A lot of actors try to get another role somewhere, but I'd rather think about how I can make Nick more real.
HOW MUCH OF YOU IS IN NICK?
'Nick is a lot like me, but he is still very different. He's more brave. It's nice to play Nick because he doesn't know any fear. Over the years the difference between me and Nick has become less. I'm now at the point that I feel more comfortable playing Nick in front of the camera than be me in real life. I'm being recognized everywhere and I don't like that. It's not something you get prepared for in the drama academy. The first year was nice, because we'd hear from a lot of people they liked the show and that's nice. But quick it became like we were tied to a rocket and got launched, because we got more popular and more popular. You can't do anything about that.'
WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT BEING FAMOUS? (this is a horrible one)
'Let me give you an example. My mom has a chronic sickness (didn't know the word) and I was visiting her at the hospital. She was really sick and I was afraid she'd die. So I spent two days at the side of her bed. While my mom was laying there, completely swollen (sp) and caughing up blood, nurses kept coming in asking for an autographe (sp). I really got very angry. Don't I have the right for a little privacy? I actually wanted to quit acting right away, but I realised the famousness (?) wouldn't go away right away.
IS THERE A LIFE AFTER CSI?
'This role isn't like the one the actors on Friends had. They'll never get that character of of them. If CSI would stop, I'd be able to play another role. Put me in an army-costume and I'll be a credible soldier;. Or I could be a spy who saves the world. But actually I'd like to play a bad boy once.. I have the gift to scare people with my creepy behaviour, you see..'
YOU'VE HAD A MOUSTACHE IN THE SHOW FOR A WHILE. WHY THAT?
'I kept the moustache, because I wanted you to look further that Nick's looks. The first two seasons all I heard was: "Hey, It's the cute guy from CSI!" Call it the Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt syndrome, but I don't want to be judged by how I look.'
WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR YOU TO PLAY A COP?
'I'm a fan of comic books and when I was young I always wanted to play a superhero. I would have loved to act in Spider man or Batman or Daredevil. But now I play as a forensic investigator a different kind of hero. The kind of work that makes them not being able to eat spaghetti, because it looks like brains too much. Or they're really addicted to alcohol. But they still do their job because they know it's important. Like my father.
WHAT DID YOUR FATHER DO?
'He's been a (something) prosecutor for almost 30 years and the job devistated (sp) him. A lot of cases got personal to him and that's also the reason why he had problems with alcohol and couldn't show his feelings. Sinds I play a CSI, I understand my dad a lot more and I try to use his experiences in my character. I actually do play my father when I play Nick. After every episode, my father calls me, emotional, to thank me for giving a face to the anonymous job of being a cop.'
HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE THAT AS A KID?
'I didn't really understand that that good. I'm my family there just wasn't that much cuddling. I just wanted a father who was happy, you know? He once had a case with a Hells Angel, so one night the man's friends came to our house. They kicked in the front door and my mom yelled at me to get a gun. Luckily my dad taught me how to shoot, so there I was, a thirteen year-old waving with a .357 Magnum. I think those Hells Angels knew I'd really shoot if they would hurt my mom or me, so they left.'
WOW, WHAT A STORY!
'Yeah, I haven't thought of it in a while, actually. Later I wanted to be a marine. My dad had done that too and I wanted to make him proud. Weird how you can do things to make your parents proud. But eventually I chose to be me and decided to act. Funny enough I now make him proud my playing a cop.'
