Eric/Greg Leggo Our Greggo Thread #13

I'm sure Greg would have done the smart (and gentlemanly) thing and stepped aside as Ray did. I really liked how Riley called him by her first name and Greg responded by calling her Sanders.

Tons of screen caps on the pic thread btw.

After this episode i start to think the writers reading this forum or we Greg fans begin to read their mind telepaticaly...:cardie: More and more Greg please...

He was so cool , so funny while teasing Riley. He was also so empathic and emotional with the kid's father. In other words Eric/Greg was adorable...

The gun problem was solved in unexpected way :guffaw: I am ok he is not really carrying that thing.

Wow! That episode was so awesome! Greg in tight pants + Greg being emotional and compassionate with the father (I honestly can't remember the last time he was like that with a vic/vic's family member) + Greg w/ gun + Greg w/ a gun to his head + the Greg-Riley name, saving each others' butts bit + Greg really keeping his head when he found out about the hostage thing = 10/10. Who knows if we'll ever see another Greg-centric episode, but this episode came close enough. He was so awesome! This is going down as one of my fave episodes ever, for so many reasons.

I expected to have come down from my fangirl high by now, but alas, that is not the case. Excellent episode, and awesome Greg scenes!

Hopefully, we'll still get a shirtless Greg in the future, but at least we got some nice arm porn this episode

As to whether he would have let Riley lead, he does definitely seem to take the gentlemanly route much of the time. I think many of the team members tend to try to take charge, but one thing I really like about Greg is that he seems comfortable taking orders (no matter the rank of the person giving them) and letting people pull rank because he trusts his team members' judgment. I remember in the garbage truck scene in 'Let it Bleed,' before we knew Greg was a Level 2, when he let Riley pretty much run the scene. It turns out that she would have pretty much been a lower level CSI (or at least lower on the Level 2 totem pole, since Greg was almost at his promotion, which, for all we know, he could've already gotten), but he was comfortable letting her pull rank and run the scene anyway. I just remember how much of the team, especially toward the beginning of the series, seemed very conscious of rank, but Greg pretty much treats everyone equally. Even as a lab tech, he seemed to show the same amount of respect for Nick as he showed for Cath, and now he's still willing to defer to Ray and Riley even though they're lower levels than him. That went a little more off-tangent than I would've liked...

Anyway, great episode! I could definitely see how his character has developed. It was quite a contrast between the scene with the father and past scenes with him talking to family members/close friends. It's hard to watch those two scenes with the father without thinking about how much Greg has developed since Tara Matthews in 'Spark of Life.' In a lot of ways, he acts the same -- compassionate, empathetic and clearly invested in helping find answers and closure -- toward the family members, but it seemed very clear how much more comfortable and poised he was in this episode. He's come a long way, but he's still the same Greggo, which I think shows a lot of admirable work on the part of both Eric Szmanda and TPTB in developing his character without changing it too drastically.

Very well said, happyharper13. I am glad we are seeing at least consistency and growth with Greg's character. This episode really showcased all of that.

And Greg has always been very fair towards everyone, but he is not afraid to stand up to a superior if he feels the need. I will never forget in Season 5, Harvest, how he stood up and defended Mia and her lab work to Grissom, saying everyone has to accept change and he should not be the only one telling Mia she is doing a good job. Also when he stood up to Mrs. James in Big Shots and even Aaron James in Post Mortem, even though he did not speak, he stood his ground.

I think Eric has a lot to do with that consistency too. I mean he was the one who talked them into letting Greg become a CSI. So I think he has really helped with his character development and consistency.

And I have noticed we do see a lot more of his humorous side this season too. :D

I think Jorja and Gary leaving worked out really well for Eric, I'm sure he was able to move up in the ranks and renegotiate more screentime and such. No offense to any Sara or Warrick fans (or Grissom for that matter) but CSI has gotten so much better, and Greg is finally moving into the spotlight.

I agree. It was starting to feel stale but now it is fresher again. The changes came as a good thing and especially a good thing for Greg/Eric. :D

Don't get me wrong I love Greg, I really do, but I'm beginning to feel like he's become the spare wheel in the team :/
before he became a CSI he had so much screen time and his own little stories etc. but since then (apart from fannysmackin) he hasn't really had anything to do. Ok he had quite a big part in the last episode but before that we were lucky to get 3 mins screen time of him!
even at the end of this ep when everyone was hugging and stuff I kinda felyt like he was separated from the rest of the team and stood behind them all as they walked away.
It seems tptb are putting together Riley and Nick (remember breakfast invite?) and Ray and Catherine (hugs much?) and Gregs kinda on his own.
I can't wait for Sophia to come back (maybe he won't be the third (or 5th) wheel) and might actually get a decent storyline and screentime.

He's been on a lot more this season than he has in a long time. There have only been a couple of episodes this season where he was hardly in the episode. I think the writers are finally starting to realize he is a part of the main cast and that people do want to see more of him.

Plus there is not anything that says Sophia is coming back and she would only end up probably taking up more of Greg's screen time if she came back anyway.

As for the end of this last episode, I did not think Greg was not part of the group at all. He was right next to Riley and he shook Ray's hand. Someone has to walk in the back. Nick was way off to the side, if anyone was way off.

I think Greg is still as much a part of the team as ever. I would love him to have more screen time, and a Gregcentric ep but I think he's an integral part of the team, although I miss the more 'lighthearted' Greg I love 'mature' Greg.

He breaks my heart nearly every ep. Oh the angst!!

IMO Greg has gotten way more screentime than he did when he was in the lab, this season especially has been great. As far as Sofia goes, she won't be back because Louise has her own show starting next season (NCIS spinoff) if she does come back it will only be for a guest spot. The team is finally working more as a team (Including Greg) now then they ever had.

I agree with what Wojo, egeria, and Dizzney said. I've been really happy with Greg's screentime so far this season. As to pairing characters together, I think Greg and Riley, and possibly Greg and Nick, have been paired up a lot more than Nick and Riley. Even in the last episode, where Riley and Ray were the ones held hostage, there was still an angle for Greg and Riley, with the names and each saving each other (even though one was in the drill). The only person I haven't seen Greg working with much is Ray, which makes sense to a degree, given that Nick and Catherine are more experienced and thus better able, presumably, to teach Ray about the job.

Riley's invite was for the whole team. Not just Nick. She was talking about the whole team going out for Nick's birthday. She only said she'd pay for his dinner as a gift to him. Cath would have hugged Grissom too if he'd been the one in Ray's situation, it was a friend thing, not a shippy thing. Friends hug all the time. She only hugged Ray because she was glad he was okay. Greg and Riley have been teamed on cases way more than Nick and Riley have. Nick's been paired more with Brass and Ray than any of the others.

I agree. I was glad to see more of Greg in the last episode. Usually people do hug even as friends after situations like that.

I thought she said she'd pay because she wouldn't have to pay. Because it was his birthday, she thought he'd get food for free, or something, so she meant 'my treat' more jokingly, or at least that was my impression of that scene.

That could be. I'm just pretty sure she didn't mean for just the two of them to go out alone.
