Episode 8x23 - 'Time Bomb' ***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

I wish this episode wasn't made....

Let me rephrase that, I wish this story arc wasn't done

Simply due to the fact that turning someone, even if it was Rick, a traitor this long in the series run doesn't feel right and Rick's reason for doing so was very weak.

Rick may have a disdain for Horatio but they both shared the same goal and that was to serve and protect. Sure he tried to discredit Horatio but he was always within the rules and, if possible, could have dismantled the whole team due to its infractions and mess ups.

What bothered me even more is that team fractures have been reintroduced. They just whizzed away a whole season's worth of work in selling a fully functioning team. Funny isn't it that the fractures disappeared when Delko did and reappear when he does (just a little Tongue in cheek for you Delko fans)

Jon Togo was awesome! And goodness me, Rebecca didn't stand a chance at all, did she?

I think part of her leg got blown off. I thought I was seeing things in the overhead shot but during the autopsy, I noticed one of her lower legs messing

Rating 3/5

Last night was a good one, almost felt like a season finale.First,I really liked Ryan on this one.The fact that he forgave Eric so quickly speaks very highly of him.He worked hard to earn back the trust of the team in the past and there was no objection when the ball was on the other side.Kudos to him!!

I am not a fan of Stetler becouse of the Yelina situation but IMO his reason to what he did were ridiculous.I was expecting something bigger. The whole storyline felt flat.

Third,I really liked Horatio yesterday. His scenes with Sully and with Eric show an emotional side that we do not often see.I can be a fan of this Horatio.

And of course,I am a very happy E/C fan after the sunset scene..It could have been corny but they made it work.;)

She also lost part of her arm. Boy Rebecca's autopsy got to be the best scene of the episode...very well shot and I love the whole make-up effect

LOVED the episode! Loved it.

One of the things people have been complaining about is that in comparison to the first few seasons of this show, the "team" feels less like a "team". I think last night's episode was really the culmination of all that- it showed that they really needed to work on being able to trust each other. But it also gave us hope- despite all the anger and frustration, everyone pulled it together to exonerate Ryan and find the real criminal. By the end of the episode, however, with them all standing there as Ryan and a patrol cop escorted Stetler out in handcuffs, I could see the flicker of strength in their eyes- that it may take a while, but everyone realizes how important it is to be a true team that has each other's backs.

That's one of the reasons why I loved the end scene so much. Of course, I liked it from the standpoint of an E/C shipper, but I also liked it because it was a metaphor for the relationships all the team members have with each other: it'll take a while for them to earn each other's trust back, but they aren't completely broken. Things will get better.

One of the weaknesses of this episode, however, was really explaining why Sully and Stetler crossed over to the dark side. I had a better time understanding with Stetler when he was explaining how his professional life affected his personal one (divorces, etc.). But it would've been more helpful/believable if in past episodes, Stetler appeared to be troubled, or Horatio noticed something was off and asked him about it. So the buildup wasn't all that great.

"Flattery will get you nowhere today" I love it when Calleigh is sassy! My sassy Calleigh is back!

I really enjoyed this Episode, but I felt it was a shame they decided to use Rick like this. I'm glad Sully was okay in the end, I'm sure we'll see him again as I'm sure we'll see Rick again. A+

I thoroughly enjoyed "Time Bomb." I seems like the CSIM writers have been stepping up their game the closer we get to the end of the season.

First off, it was great to see Horatio and Eric working together again. As David C. himself has acknowledged, these 2 have a rapport and dynamic that are always great to watch. Of course, my Hiphugger-heart loved the E/C moments, especially that final scene on the pier ... the flirty bantering between Eric and Calleigh reminded me of why I became a fan of this couple in the first place.

And I loved the scene where Ryan shook Eric's hand towards the end of the episode ... that was a nice moment.

It's cool when the CSIM writers give us a glimpse of the camaraderie between Eric and Ryan. They're almost like brothers ... they have their sibling rivalry and their disagreements, but underneath it all, they have each other's backs, and that's what matters.

The pacing, suspense and action were totally on-point, and held my attention from beginning to end. Good bits of acting by everyone, esp. Jon Togo, who played Ryan's reactions to being set up really well. I could have done with out Walter's self-righteousness (is it me, or is Wally a tad too judgmental?).

And Jesse's attempt to offer Calleigh a "friendly ear" seemed so forced and downright weird that it made me a bit queasy.

His character has been pretty frosty and emotionless for most of this season, so it seemed extremely unnatural for him to make this kind of overture to Calleigh. Here's hoping that it was just a misguided attempt to be a good co-worker, and nothing more.

I knew from the spoilers that the culprit was Stetler, but it was still riveting to actually see everything unfold on screen. I never liked Stetler ... he was always a trouble maker. And let's not forget that he was a domestic batterer (he put his hands on Yelina back in the earlier seasons of the show, when she was his girlfriend). So I wouldn't put anything past him. Plus, he's had it in for Horatio and the CSI team for years now. I'll miss David Lee Smith playing the IAB guy we all loved to hate, but I'm glad that Stetler finally got what he deserved. However, I too would've liked some more/better insight into why Stetler and Sully did what they did. I wasn't totally satisfied with the explanation that we got. Some more back-story in this regard would've been nice ... but I guess the writers ran out of time ...

I agree with GRNF, I really think they had nothing else to say concerning his character. I have no doubt that David knew this was coming, and left on good terms with everyone. I don't lessen the blow his departure has had on his die hard fans over the years, but saying it's the E/C show now is a bit over the top. You have a right to be mad, but there are still other people on this show that pull their weight as well.

It's just goes to show that you can't please everyone in a drama like this. And it's not to say that I would react in the same fashion should Jon decide to leave and they gave him a crappy exit (I totally would). We become attached to these characters over the years and it's hard to see them go. But I'm confident that season 9 will be a fascinating one, especially with the promo of the season finale.

to all the David Smith fans out there, I'm sorry your character had to leave in such a fashion, but I do believe he had an amazing performance till the end and it's not to say that he won't be back. They've done it with various villains before, talking to men in prison. They didn't kill Stetler off entirely, which means there is a chance (somewhat small) that he will come back.

Jag, do not give up on the show just yet. I think it has a few more stories to tell and great people still around to entertain. I really don't believe they are on the brink of a soap opera (Neither has NY with D/L). Romances are apart of everyday life and E/C's especially have been in the works for years. I hope the writers will not focus exclusively on them in the next season, and I do get my fill of the cutie known as Ryan Wolfe, cause he has a lot of stories to tell! :)

Let's keep hope alive people, I don't think the show will disappoint us. :)

Very, very well-said!

I agree with you completely!

Ths episode was riveting, compelling and captivating, I was shocked when they arrested Ryan, I knew he wasn't involved, the whole ep. from Horatio confiding to that betrayer, and trusting him, then he got shot by the cop. I was going OMG, is he going to really going shoot Horatio:eek: to all the team so confused and not sure what or who did this evil deed. And the end when it was the IA guy Rick how could he.:scream: And planting those diamonds in Ryans stereo system, what a low-life. And the ending wth Eric and Calleigh, so poignant and tender, and they sure do love each other. It left me so drained I couldn't calm down. Really a dynamite episode~:bolian:

loved this episode-I was shocked about Rick Stetler-his reasons were kinda flakey but again he got caught and starts confessing? without an attorney? yeah right..maybe he should have been the one to go to counseling so he wouldn't have turned criminal while being a cop..loved DLS work though hope we haven't seen the last of him since he's awesome...he isn't going to do well in jail though..
Loved Horatio being emotional about Sully-just cause we haven't seen this relationship only 3x it doesn't change that they have like 15+yrs or so being partners and that past was why Horatio was so betrayed..also all the cover up. Loved that jail guy saying I killed a cop and all u guys care about is a car? wtf?
Rebecca's autopsy-horrible what happened to her but I haven't liked her in along time since she wanted to try Kyle as an adult at age 16 when he wasn't a very dangerous kid-I think she had to have had experience in Miami-Dade with really horrendous criminals under 18 who truly deserve to be locked up-very bad judgement. But the way she died was terrible...I can't think about Rick parking the car, walking away and setting off the bomb and watching it all go down=now that's truly COLD!
Don't really care E/C shipper-okay that Erik admits he wasn't wired against Cal cause that would have been unforgivable for them..
yeah this episode felt like season finale stuff so wonder how they'll up the stakes next week...will be watching bits of this last show for awhile-guess this will have to tide us over till next fall..

Although overall I enjoyed the episode, mainly due to Jon Togo's performance, I am not at all impressed that it was Stetler who was the culprit.
What was the connection to Sully, I must have missed that? And there was never an indication of this type of behaviour from Rick. Sure, it was stated before that he disliked being IAB and was jealous of Horatio, but still there was never anything to suggest this he was involved in anything bad. He always seemed intent on doing his job, and although he seemed to enjoy it a bit much at times, he was just following the rules. So to have him do this, especially murder- thats a big leap..........It just didnt sit right with me.

Now the scenes with Ryan I enjoyed very much. I was disappointed that Calleigh wasnt particularly supportive, but at least the others were, in the end. Aww I felt really sad for Ryan when they were all in his apartment and then when he was doing 'the walk of shame' to the elevator.

So although I liked the build up, and Ryan's arrest, I felt let-down by the conclusion

Loved the episode. I am quite happy with the writing and the story, loved everything of it. I spend a good time watching it (isn't it the meaning of a TV show after all?) and I think I'll watch it again.

If I could I would make just a little request to the writers and whoever taked care of it:

Please, Calleigh in ballistics!!!! I miss some good firing range scenes...

A+

Okay, finally watched it. I won't beat a dead horse.

David Lee Smith was so good, I actually watched his final scene twice. The man is just so delicious and so good. Never mind that the scenario was hokier than a $3 bill and was totally out of character for him. My husband is a casual Miami viewer and said "Couldn't they just have him retire?"

Enjoy the finale. I won't be there.

I enjoyed the episode, but I was disappointed at the team's reaction to the diamonds being found at Ryan's place. I felt bad for Ryan when he asked his friends if they believed this and everyone was silent, that had to hurt and would explain his reaction in the end to walking away from everyone. I would like for the rebuilding of trust to continue in the next episode, but judging from the promos that doesn't look like it'll happen.

I miss those scenes too with Calleigh! It has been a long time since she's been shown in ballistics.

David and Adam maybe good friends and all, but I don't see anything special when they work together. Adam always reminds me of the bull-in-the-china shop kind of guy; it works in action scenes but not so much in the subtle and dramatic ones- the lack of subtlety tends to back fire- The two Davids had a chemistry which was great to watch, second only to David and Rory and now I can see why he doesn't want to return.

Try as I might, I can't get with the Walter, Jesse or Tom for reasons that I have said over and over again; I won't repeat them. Again this is such a blow in the back to the faithful fans who enjoyed DLS; a murderer AND a corrupt cop  :censored:He'll never be able to come back from this abyss unless somehow we learn next season he was being elaborately framed in order to catch a bigger and more guilty fish.

I don't know how long I can keep watching the series either; it had so many potentials in so many areas and now it's all going down the can in flames and I see that, every time I watch the old re-runs in comparison. This is a major heartbreak and I grieve for everyone who feels betrayed by all of this; it's a BIG betrayal in a major way!

I agree with you Jag... those reruns from the past are looking better and better all of the time.

ok am i the only one that was really annoyed at this episode? Eric is not a CSI anymore so why is he searching Ryans house, interviewing suspects, etc. Yes I realize this is not a realistic show...but still it seemed over the top to me....

Just when I was starting to like Stetler...
THIS episode happens. You could've knocked me over with a feather when Stetler's involvement in evidence going missing was revealed. The reason: I didn't see it coming. I can imagine it being him. Even in episodes David Lee Smith is not in, his character Stetler could be lurking around somewhere in the lab, they just don't show him since David Lee isn't there.
CSI_Kat. In "Delko For The Defense" Delko went to work for the State Attorney's office at the end of that episode. Couple of episodes back when those diamonds came up missing, Eric told Natalia that the State's Attorney had been having trouble with evidence going missing and they didn't know where the problem was until now. That's why Eric was there, he was working for Rebecca's office investigating why evidence was coming up missing and who all was involved. I'm guessing that's why he was helping to search Ryan's house.
I'm kinda sad and disappointed it was Stetler. Like I said at the beginning of this post, I was just starting to like the guy. But I still love this episode. And I love watching it on ON DEMAND. I really wish we had a grade poll like over in the NY section. I'd vote A+. Yes, that's right: I give this episode a big, fat, juicy A+.
