i'm not sure about Ryan even if i saw him more in the A/V lab then the other characters.
Ryan is Trace specialist.

I don't say that they shouldn't explain to us this things, but they can do this not showing them dumb. And about Calleigh, i write it before, she looks dumb not just because she don't know that, her face, her mimicry show me dumb blonde. It's not mention her other scene, where she act just stupid, when she not turn around checking was it Eric or not and russian guy attack her.

Yeah, the part where she just assumed that Eric was in the house was pretty dumb. I was like, no. Maybe I'm a cautious person, but I would turn around.

I would turn around too :) But even if she was sure that it was Eric, she should suspect that something wrong, i mean, the silence was very weird. He don't say anything when come in, hse said "Hey, Eric" and then silence again. Calleigh, you need red poster "that's weird!" to finally notice that it was very weird?

I agree that scene was a bit odd. She should have known that Eric wouldn't just walk in and not say anything. Knowing Eric, he would have said hi to her before she could say anything. But, I guess the writers had to make it convienent for her to get the bag put over her head, so they wrote it as her just assuming it was Eric and being so busy with what she was doing that she didn't notice that nothing was said in response to her greeting. I guess they were trying to show that they weren't all being as careful as they should be when they know someone's gunning for them. It wasn't just Calleigh either, Ryan wasn't being as cautious as he should have been either with the whole tire thing.

I, too would probably turn around too but then I'm just that way. She probably just assumed that it was Eric because he said he was just about there (I think he said he'd be there in 5 minutes). Still ....

Someone commented somewhere about her running around the kitchen making her look dumb. Ummmm...not her kitchen...she doesn't know where things are and she was looking for the right piece of equipment (a glass bowl, not plastic). If that makes her dumb then I hope no one saw me looking in my parents kitchen over Spring Break for a glass. (They have had their kitchen completely redone and things were in a different place. I'm sure I looked like a dork opening up all the cabinets trying to find a a glass. :p)

Honestly, I didn't even notice her running around the kitchen. I was too busy scanning the area for something that could be used as evidence (something the guy may have dropped) and wondering if I saw something if Calleigh or Eric would find it too. But of course I never saw anything.

Plus she had to hurry up to preserve the evidence. What she did with it was a long shot, like Eric said, so if she wasted time the odds for it to work probably were even less.

I think that the fact that Eric was going to be there in very little time just made her assume it was him. Since I am kind of paranoid I think I would've looked back and being they are CSI's they should be more aware (especially after what happened to her in 7.14) but it isn't so out there that she didn't (and I definitely do not think it makes her a dumb blonde). It's like when I call my sister to tell her I am real close by and on my way over to her place (her residential area has access control) and so when I get there she doesn't even ask who it is and just opens up. I've told her not to do it cause one never knows but at the time she just quickly concludes that since I just called and told her I was close by that it's me.

But, like GNRF said, Ryan wasn't too careful either. If there's a hit out there for them a sudden flat tire should be a red flag. Plus I think he should've heard the van stopping behind him and looked back. The guy approached him and he didn't even glance up. So I guess it was just a way to make the attacks happen and further the plot.

If I'm not mistaken, Florry, you were that person... So, why is it a problem for you now if Eric explains something to Calleigh? I'm not trying to be mean here, I'm just curious...
I'm not Florry, but i wanna write my opinion about this scene. First of all, i like when they explain things they doing in lab (i like chemistry in school and love when they talk about it). But i don't like the way they explain somethings. They can explain all things without made Calleigh looks dumb. She really thinks that he can destroy evidence? In front of her?

They can show it another way (they use it sometimes). Eric says that he can't take print in usual way. Calleigh see what he do and catch up what he gonna do (say it in loud "Oh, i get it, you wanna do this and this [says technical things]"). Then Eric says "Yeah, [then continue of technical things]". In that way, they explain audience things they don't know and Calleigh not dumb. Everyone happy.
I'm Florry ;)
I've got a problem with him explaining to her that pretty simple technique right now. I mean right after they got together, oplà he's the one explaining to her something. Las time I saw something like this from Eric to Cal was in "Urban Hellriser".
Not to mention that he was explaining to her b/c she was worried he was making a mistake destroying the evidence. It was a smart way to answer to her pretty dumb question....ok that Eric has a bullet in his head, but considering he's been working with it for years, I don't see any problem with Eric right now .

I don't want to get into shipping stuff, but I do think that after the (in)famous cheat sheet & the fact she trusted him that time, it was pretty dumb by her to make such a question. Eric didn't do anything wrong. He acted as a normal CSI and a normal guy. I liked him in that moment. But with that dumb question he looked smarter than he actually is.

With this I'd like to stop this discussion b/c I still can't believe this opinion could create such an insurrection. I wasn't the only one who expressed this opinion, but I do feel like I was a criminal for expressing it ;)

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to make you feel like a criminal, I was just curious. ;) I must say though that we are looking at that scene very differently. I kind of got the impression that Calleigh's reaction was automatic, that she didn't stop to think: "Oh, he's doing something that looks like cleaning the fingerprint, but he's competent CSI, I trust him, he wouldn't do something like that." The writers had to give her some line so they could start talking about procedure. Of course it could have been done in a million different ways, but every scene can. I seriously doubt they had in mind to make Calleigh stupid or that it will make Eric look smarter. He didn't look smarter than usual to me.

The only way i can explain why he didn't hear van is it was road, many cars (vans) there, it's very noisy! And tire thing, it's happen with everyone, i don't think it would suspicious. It was one single nail, how russians can be sure that hammer got it, not someone else? I think they follow him and wait when they can kidnap him. But luck was on their side.

I really got the impression that the russians are guilty of that flat tire. It's just a little too convinient. IMO, they punctured the tire and just waited for it to go flat.

I still think that traffic or no traffic it always sounds different when a car is pulling up behind you (especially if you should be more on the alert since someone is targeting you) and if someone is walking so close towards you most of the time you'll hear the steps. I watched the scene again and when the van approached him the street was quiet so he could've noticed there was a car stopping behind him. Still, I'm only applying to Ryan what is being applied to Calleigh. They both should've been more aware, but I still believe it isn't such a big deal that they weren't.

IMO the writers just wanted an excuse for Calleigh to be attacked and Ryan kidnapped to have a big dramatic scene.I like this show becouse overall is entertaining but there are so many plot holes like that over the course of the years that I didn't even blink at it.I have always seen CSI miami as the more dramatic of the 3 so this is their usual MO for me.I love it but with a suapension of disbelief.

Thank you. Obviously they need a way to make things actually happen. If the CSI's were perfect it'd be a pretty boring show. Maybe Ryan wasn't thinking? If I had pulled over with a flat tire and was frustrated with it I wouldn't have been paying attention to some car pulling up behind me. They needed someway to kidnap him. Same goes for Calleigh and the bag, not turning around.

If the CSI's didn't make these mistakes there'd be no way for the writers to make anything happen with the show.

Exactly! If everyone did everything they 'should have' done we'd have nothing to talk about

Haha, that van. I barely heard it pull up. But maybe Ryan was just frustrated and tired. The flat tire was way convenient. Maybe the bad guys punctured it, and just waited for it to go flat, or maybe it was purely opportunistic. Who knows. But if it weren't for that flat we wouldn't have gotten that nice butt-shot all us Ryan fans are obsessed with :guffaw:
