"FAILtective"? :wtf: That name certainly is made of fail. Not very creative and honestly, while you have the right to have an opinion on Angell (who I find to be attractive, smart and a great person on the show), it really shows a lack of taste.

WHAT?! I'm sorry I didn't know that rhyming was a rule these days... Basically, I think Angell is made of FAIL. So I call her FAILtective. And you say you don't think it's funny as if I give a damn whether you do or not...

I wouldn't say much about the rhyming, but a little creativity would help, I guess.

It certainly makes reading harder... so blinky! My eyes are unfocused!

I like to weigh the options on this as if I was expected to place a bet on it. I feel like it helps me rationalize, while I speculate. I wonder if we could start a character death pool! Take bets, maybe winners can get a fancy graphic! "I won the NY death pool and all I got was this lousy banner" ^_^ I'd volunteer to make them!

I like Angell a lot, and I think she's a good character, but at this point, I don't see her death as being a huge loss to the show. A lot of untapped potential, yes--but not a huge loss that would "change the line up forever."

That said, if she's not the one that goes, I think she's a great candidate to be bumped up to the main cast next season. CSI had two detectives for a while, as did Miami. I imagine the team would need a new CSI, though, since if a CSI dies they'd be left with only four actual CSIs on the show.

ETA: One big indicator that it might be Angell would be if Emmanuelle Vaugier gets cast in a pilot. It's pilot season right now, and a lot of casting is going on right now. I remember that was how at least one death on Lost leaked--Cynthia Watros got cast in a pilot, clueing people into the fact that she was leaving Lost.

In Angel in this week episode?
She's listed in the press release, but that's not necessarily an indication - she was listed for one earlier this season that she didn't appear in. But I'm guessing she's there (hopefully :p).

I know. It's like those ads ya get on the screen sometimes "YOU'VE JUST WON WON WON WON WON..."

(...I was really wanting and trying not to say anything, and this has nothing to do with the text chosen in 'Failtective' nor with the character of Angell, coulda put ME/ME/ME/ME/ME/ME over Pino/Sheldon/Marty/Peyton/Sid/Self Portrait and I'd say the same thing, but it nearly needs a warning for seizures  :p)

I'd be in a pool  8 - 5 says Hawkes. 10 - 1 says Lindsay. 2-1 says TPTB are laughing their asses off and scheming how to draw this little dance out. Actually, no bet at all on the last one.

I could see her being bumped up to become a main member as AJ and Robert were. But if she goes, as many have said, she's a recurring character and a guest actor. Ya don't hafta downsize a character who's not a regular on the show, you're not obliged to write them in at all. Her dying would seem a rather cheap way to fill the spoiler they've given and frankly a waste.

All the PL leakage at this point really states is that:
  • one person dies
That we're expected to care about anyways. Whether anonymous cops are additionally killed to make the kidnappers turn cop killers we don't know.
  • their death 'Forever Changes' the show/ changes 'the line up' of the show
So a main character or long term recurring one who's crossed several seasons.
  • the death is termed of being of a 'member of the family'
I know I originally suggested Sinclair, being initially unwilling to credit TPTB with having the hutzpah to off a main core character, but this would seem to me to at least knock him off the list. Family would more include Adam, Sid, Flack, Angell.
  • one member of the team is targeted
Would seem to indicate a main character. Further, while 'family' can be more encompassing where Flack and Angell are concerned, the 'Team' could be read as the CSI's, ie. Mac's team. Flack and Angell are Homicide, and Flack has his own guys, no? Hence Dean Truby in Consequences? Mac's commented several times how Flack's guys are canvassing, etc. In some ways I could read this as taking Flack and Angell off the list, or bumping them way down.
  • it happens in the first ten minutes
  • the finale is going to be a cliffhanger
Suggests the death is not what we'll be left hanging about.
  • the final four eps are very Mac & Stella heavy in focus
  • Mac's current Nemmie in Craig T. Nelson finishes his 3-ep arc in the finale.
If they wanna be clever, this doesn't necessarily mean that he's not part of the cliffhanger - IE. invited back for S6...?
  • EW Weekly's bite says 'the cast will shrink by one this May'
No indication yet TPTB will or won't add a replacement character, bump up a recurring, or simply spread the time around the cast, more substantial guest appearances, and/or more stunt casting

So, Not bloody likelies include Mac, Stella, Adam, Sid.

Possibles include Angell, Flack, Sinclair, and yes, Danny.

(I know. Toss up betwee safe and here. I hate adding Danny to this bit, but he's so faded in his current incarnation that while I'd miss him, I think the show could live without him, at least as he is. We're already living without him as he once was. The only reason I doubt the death being his is thinking the show would tank with Lindsay being so openly left to her own devices. It's just that Danny at this point has as much or less presence than Aiden had, and it moved on from her. Mind you, look what it got us...)

Tops are still Sheldon and Lindsay.

Yes, the last is a given. Hmm.. maybe that winning banner should read "I out detectived TPTB." or some such. ^_^

  • one member of the team is targeted

It might also be helpful to note that we don't know who is targeted and at this point we have no evidence to suggest the target and the deceased are the same person or not.

ETA: I'm curious to know why Adam has fallen into your not bloody likelies category. I like this criteria. Doesn't he fit most of the criteria?

But I don't know if I'm that lucky so I think Sinclair or Gillian are the most likely candidates. Especially since Julia Ormond was only signed up for a few episodes to begin with.
Right, episodes that have already aired. Kind of hard to kill her off if she's not around to be killed off.

But could'nt they say when the "call" comes in that Gillian was the one? They dont nesseceraly have to have the actress there to weave her in the show, hence Aiden. Also maybe when Julia Ormond mentioned they usually kill her characters off she was telling us somthing. She is kind of connected to the "Flash drive" story. Then Mac might be offered her postion, I doubt that though because he wont be on the field as much.

Elwood, I think you covered everything. You are really into this. WOW! I haven't analyzed it that much. Do you know something the rest of us don't, or are you just more frustrated about waiting than I am?!

^ :guffaw:

aw  naw, I was just running on fumes there, very much laughing my own ass off. What can I say. In some fashion I can't help being absurdly amused by it all. At least until we find out which luckless bastard's gonna get it. ;)

Gathering all the wee snippets we've been so carefully dosed with so far was my own filter to let my addled little mind run thru things. I'm pretty damned sure I don't know nearly as much as I'd like to think most days :p

Well, nothing concrete. Just, Adam's the only true lab tech on the show, they'd hafta definitely either create and cast another lab tech character or make do with a series of more anonymous ones; AJ's only just been added as a main cast member, he's ridiculously popular, he's definitely a draw for the demmographic TPTB seem obsessed with targeting, and while losing any core character could have a backlash inspite of the inevitable ratings spike, losing Adam could have really drastically unwanted consequences in that regard; his character gets some of the best of the humourous moments and he's more than proven he's got range to take his character in more dramatic directions, he's had some truly memorable moments with their writing this season; he's just had a near death eppie, and if we're gonna be literal with the snippets, while Adam's a part of the lab team and part of the family, he's definitely not a cop; he's buds with PV, he's definitely keen to remain on the show, his time on the show doesn't seem to effect his ability to take on external projects... yada... I just don't think he's a top of the list candidate.

But they could surprise the hell outta me yet. Who tf knows, eh? :p

^ I can see that. Just curious! :D I'm happily on board with any theory that takes our dear sweet Adam off the chopping block!

Someone said something about suspecting Lindsay and Stella would be safe since they're the only two women on the team, but I'm inclined to disagree. This same men to women ratio didn't stop them from offing Aiden. Also they've quite conspicuously stacked their supporting cast with women. Gillian, Quinn, Angell, even Jordan and Kendall if they should ever return. With four or five potential female players in the wings I don't think it would be hard to remove a female member of the team.

At first, I thought you said lucky, not luckless! I like the way you put that, too! I never thought about it that way. Perhaps AB won't be the "lucky one", and some other person (oh noes, one of the men...) would be the "luckless" one.

Ahh, sometimes you folks entertain me more than you know with your posts!

Also, for a while, Calleigh was the only woman in Miami (most of the first season). Which may not have anything to do with NY, but may have everything to do with it. Because if she can hold down the fort, then so can Stella. And, until Riley came, Catherine was the only female in Vegas after Sara left (which was about a season). I think they'd be okay with taking that hit on NY too, going down to one female for a bit. It never hurt the other shows.

I know the shows really can't be compared like that due to each show having different PTB, but if TPTB carry episode plots between the shows, I don't think it's a stretch to say they couldn't carry that over as well. And as roxi said, the ratio didn't stop them from giving Aiden the axe (so to speak). So it could be done.

Of course, I'm not really advocating either way. Just merely pointing out those few details... :)

I think really the only people who are truly safe, though, are Mac and Stella. And maybe Sid and Adam, as they aren't cops (unless TPTB threw 'cop-killers' in there to throw us off their real game... :shifty:). But other than that, I think everyone else is fair game.

The scenes in Greece sound interesting!

Well that's exciting! I didn't realize they'd have scenes that take place in Greece. Very interesting.

I'm also glad this storyline didn't get pushed under the rug until next season. Is this the ep that Melina wrote/directed (?) or is she doing the finale?
