Re: Baseball 2010 Season

The Jays season can only get better :D They lost their season opener to the Texas Rangers 5-4. Marcum had a no hitter going into the 7th. The Jays were actually leading going into the bottom of the ninth but Frasor blew the lead and the save. At least we scored some runs where the Tribe failed to that :D

In other opening day news Roy Halladay and the Phillies beat Washington 11-1 . I believe this was Halladay's 9th consecutive season opener.

St Louis had former Jay Chris Carpenter on the mound for their season opener. St Louis beat the Reds 11-6.

Go Jays and Tribe

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Hey now, were not playing each other, and don't feel bad we played the rangers last year as the season opener and lost lol. Besides did you pitcher just come TJ surgery and not did not pitch since 2008, had two set backs in rehabbing in 2009? Hmmm  (man we love the banter don't we lol). Besides remember the Yankee's opening their new stadium and we christianed it lol... 2009... Game 1: Win 10-2 (not bad), Game 2: L 5-6 (iffy), Game 3: W 22-4 (That had to hurt), Game 4: L 3-7 (hey we were tired lol)

I feel bad for Jake though I do, but I like Acta's attitude "He's a veteran and all that," Acta said. "He threw the ball OK," said Acta. "I don't think he had his best command. It doesn't matter what you say and how long a guy has been around. It's still Opening Day, for a guy who hasn't been out there for almost two years. He was a little bit antsy." & "You know what?" Acta said. "It's good [Westbrook] got this one out of the way."
I love Jakes attitude about the game..
"I think you just chalk it up to me not pitching very well," Westbrook said. "I'm done with the excuses of not having pitched in a year and a half. I'm done with those. Now it's just a matter of getting out there and doing better. I didn't pitch very well today, and it hurt us."
And Marson the catcher: "Just changeups, too short," Westbrook said of the pitches. "Lou's doing a good job of blocking them up, but they just got away, and the White Sox baserunners did a good job." Marson had a different take. "I've just got to block that ball and keep it in front of me," he said. "That's on me. So I'll work on that."

Gotta love this, Acta blames nerves, Westbrook blames himself, and Marson blames himself. How about blaming the guys who hit and DIDN'T.

I swear that Choo ever since he signed with Boras as an agent has been trying to be a prima donna on the field, last year he would run like the wind to get to a fly ball, now it looks like a freakin baywatch slow jog, He is suppost to be the best, please he is auditioning. He like the others before him with Boras an agent, said once the regular season started he wasn't going to be dealing with negotations, just worrying about the team (oh cry me a river lol). This I won't negotate during the regular season cause I have to concentrate on my game, oh give me a break, lmao no you want to audition to see if someone else will come in and make a bid for ya. They play 162 games a year, you mean to tell me that they can't read a contract over, talk on the phone, etc. after or before a game, that, that contract is going to interfere with how they catch and hit, that would be different from oh say anything else in life how? OY! :wtf:

Well tomorrow we restart against the white sox, Their guy will be Jake Peavy vs Fausto "I rarely walked anyone during ST and got Strikeouts" Carmona, hopefully he will fare better. Course they made a new move with him, he is falling to the first base side of the bag, and it has worked well in winter league and ST. So hopefully he can carry that over, he said the past is the past and he isn't going to worry, nibble or look back at it. Good for him.

LETS GO TRIBE & JAYS!!!!!!!!!

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Dang it edit time up. Okay today WE WON! Thank you, oh wait you don't know why I am doing that lol. On another board (radio network for the tribe) we have game thread openers, and in ST I so went undefeated, and first game of the regular season for me was tonight and Hello! "Fausto I love you dear."

Tribe 5 - W. Sox 3
Jay 7 - Rangers 4 (Congrats)

We both WON!!!!!!!!!

GO TRIBE & JAYS!!!!!!!!!

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

The Jays are now 3 and 1 on the season. They won their third game in a row by beating Baltimore 7-6 Friday afternoon. The Jays won it again in the 9th. They trailed 5-6 but scored 2 and reliever Kevin Gregg got the save. The Jays are currently tied for first place with Tampa Bay.

Cleveland is 2-2 after dropping yesterday's game to Detroit 5-2.

There are no teams in the American League that don't have a least one win or lose. In the National League San Francisco is 4-0 while Houston is 0-4. Season is still early.

Todays starters

Eveland vs Hernandez for the Toronto vs Baltimore game
Talbot vs Bonderman for Cleveland vs Detroit.

Go Jays and Tribe

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Call it a gut feeling of mine, but I am not liking Jason Frasor, for the Jays, in the closing pitcher position. Yes he is a decent pitcher and can be intimidating at times when he's got his stuff, but I don't think he has what it takes to be the Jays closer. I get nervous every time he comes into a close scoring game. I just hope that he can prove me wrong and turn out to be one of the better guys for the job this season. The Jays really need someone solid and dependable to help them win games in the late innings.

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

You know I would take Joe "you make me frightened" Browoski" that we had in 07 (45 saves) then I would Chris Perez, who is suppost to be a natural closer in waiting.

The dude blew two games, and screwed up a play. You have a guy on second, you get a come back to the mound, you take the easy out at first right? Not Perez, he threw it to third (where the guy broke) and then in doing so threw it wide. Then throws a pitch in the dirt and Marson not expecting that, blocked as best he could but it came out of his glove and behind him. Perez rips Marson saying pitchers should have confidence in their catchers when they throw in the dirt. WTH are you doing throwing in the dirt to begin with.
His quote: As for the wild pitch, Perez (0-1) said, "He [Marson] got a piece of it, but it got by him. He's trying to stop it, but at the same time, it's happened a lot recently. That needs to change, for sure. Pitchers need that confidence to throw stuff in the dirt.
"He's trying. He's not doing it on purpose." -

I checked out Marsons record Marson has had (04-09) 472 games in the minors and 35 PB,
(08-10) in the majors 26 games and 1 PB, that one came with Perez. A media guy did the same and said this..
With Marson having trouble blocking pitches in the dirt, I checked into his career in terms of passed balls. He has been very good, with none in 21 games with the Phillies and Tribe last season. In his last two minor-league seasons, he's had nine in 175 games, not excessive. Defense was never considered a weakness in the minors, so this is a problem that can be fixed.

I think Perez needs to concentrate on Perez and not ripping his new teammate.

First game against the rangers he blew it by walking the bases loaded, it took two pitchers to get three outs on four pitches. And we lost our home opener because of him.

We have nicknamed Mike Redmond (the backup catcher and Fausto Carmona personal catcher) Mike "Bruiser" Redmond, or Mike "Bruised" Redmond.
That poor guy Teagarden (Catcher) from the rangers kept fouling balls off of him, got him in the hand first, then the knee (under the padding), then the shoulder and then the hmm woohoo private sector. He [Redmond] said to him "what'd I ever do to you?"

Course I can't prove it but I think since Redmond wouldn't, that Travis Hafner more then made up for it. LaPorta hit along single, but Travis not really speedy on the bases, tried to score from second, and well they made a good throw to home, and Teagarden got ran over by Hafner lol.
Teagarden made this comment...
“That’s a big guy coming and I thought, ‘I’m going to get killed here. If Julio makes a good throw, I’m going to get run over,”’ Teagarden said. “I did. I’m not sore, but maybe I will be tomorrow. He put me on my head.”

We had the day off yesterday and resume against the rangers today.

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Good Morning, and are they still playing.

Two stories from the Cards/Mets Game.

MLB.com: Unbelievable: Mets top Cards in 20th - Both teams scoreless through 18; Reyes' sac fly clinches it
Excerpt:
Santana ran down the list of absurdities:
a closer won the game,
a starting pitcher saved it
a position player lost it.
Two position players took the mound for the Cardinals;
a pitcher played left field.

Mets beat Cardinals 2-1 in 20 innings

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Good Morning, and are they still playing.

surprisingly the game only took 6hours and 53 minutes to play. Now I will say a 2-1 game in 20 innings is just a damn good game. Usual games that last that long are blow outs. Fortunately for the teams they don't play again until 8pm tonight. Some how I think batting pratice may be waved

In other baseball news Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez pitched the Rockies first no hitter in their 18 year histroy last night. They beat Altanta 4-0. Jimenez walked 6 and struck out 7.

And in Toronto news, they lost again. Los Angeles beat them 6-3. Also closer Jason Frasor is no longer the closer. I didn't follow all the whys and what nots but he lost the job to Kevin(?) Gregg. Oh this season is already starting to look interesting and it's only April

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

Well we sweep the white sox, had the day off yesterday and will go against the twins today.

Michael Brantley (LF) was sent down to AAA Columbus. He wasn't doing to well. Not to mention that Branyan has a 1 yr 2 mil contract and through ST until yesterday (or rather today) he had been rehabbing in the minors, he will be activated today and will I guess play first base. This is Branyan's third trip with the Indians.

LETS GO INDIANS & JAY!!!!!!!!!

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

After a three game losing streak against the Angels on the weekend the Jays beat Kansas City yesterday 8-1. That's the good news. The bad news is they played against their smallest crowd ever at the Rogers Centre  They played to just over 10,000 fans. People keep asking why the small crowds. Some of the answers are: the hockey playoffs are on, who wants to pay to watch a team play that even management doesn't have mcuh faith in, and who wants to pay for overpriced tickets to see the Jays play. I think the answer is probably a mix of all three. I also think that since the Jays are the only Toronto team playing sports at the moment it would be nice to see baseball on the front section of the sports section as opposed to being on page 20  I had to go through 8 pages of hockey playoffs, a report about the NFL :wtf: and the NBA playoffs before getting to the Jays :brickwall:

In other baseball news. Relief pitcher Eric Gagne has decided to call it a career. Gagne decided to retire after being released this spring from the Dodgers. No other team was wanting him and he hadn't played in the Majors since 2008. Gagne won the Cy Young Award in 2003. That was the year he destroyed the major league saves record by saving 84 games. I also wonder if his past use of steroids had anything to do with nobody wanting to sign him. Gagne is only 34 and should still have plenty of years left in baseball.

Re: Baseball 2010 Season

OK so sue me for double posting here but I thought this piece of news deserved it's own post.

Colorado Rockies President, Keli McGregor was found dead this morning in a Salt Lake City hotel. He was only 48 :( Cause of death is unknown

Colorado baseball team president found dead

according to MLB the Rockies are playing the Washington Nationals tonight and the game is underway.

Man detained after trying to open plane's door
Excerpt:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A flight from Los Angeles to Florida was diverted to Albuquerque early Friday after a passenger sprayed the first-class cabin with a water bottle, tried to open a cabin door and threatened to blow up the aircraft.

Crew members and passengers on Delta Air Lines flight 2148 to Tampa, Fla., subdued Stanley Dwayne Sheffield, 46. He was taken into federal custody after the plane landed at 1:30 a.m. Friday.

"There wasn't time to think, just react. When somebody says they're going to blow up the plane, there's no fooling around," said Tampa Bay Rays broadcaster and former major league manager Kevin Kennedy, who was among a group of eight men that subdued Sheffield.

Kennedy was asleep when the ruckus awoke him, he told reporters before Tampa Bay's baseball game Friday night against Toronto.

"Then I hear in loud voices some guy talking about Satan and death. I can hear the flight attendant, a lady who was a little bit nervous. It woke me up and I was wide awake immediately. I see this guy and he was crossing himself and flipping water around, talking about Satan. As I looked around, other guys (in first class) were kind of waking up," he said.
