One other thing: It's glaringly obvious that they are showing virtually no emotional reaction from Nick over Warrick's death. It's so out of character for Nick that I have to believe it's deliberate, that he's burying himself in work and in complete denial of his feelings about the death of his friend, and we're going to see more ramifications of this later on. At least, I hope so.
Its part of his charater, while he's emotional, he doesn't seem to allow himself to let things get in the way of his work. Think of when half the team got sick in season 8. Grissom was sensible, took time off work, did what needed to be done for him to get better. Greg fussed, moaned and sulked at the first sign of a cold. Nick, affected one of the worst as the episode progressed didn't stop working. He admitted that he felt bad to Warrick but said he could 'work through it'. Warrick had to practically drag him away from work in order for him to get some rest.
I really liked this episode. I thought there was no way i would like riley because i've known the others for so long, but she just fit so well. I think theres some good potential for interactions between the charaters with her, hope she'll bring out some humor in greg. I like that not everyone loves her to start off with, though it would have been really out of charater for cath to get 100 percent on with her from the get go. Only have to look back on how she treated new sara for evidence of that.
What i'm loving so far is that their showing more of the labrats and the detectives. Personally hoping for more Mandy screentime, but i'll see how that goes.
The humor in this episode was spot on and it seemed to have regained something i wasn't even sure it was missing till now. Everyone was shown as being more human, not sure how to explain it, but less 2d charaters around. Hoping that they've got something interesting planned for Nick's emotions.
Problem is Warrick and Sara were the ones to speak to him about how he's acting. Greg always seemed quite closed off about emotions, just seems like a teenager at times, sulking and closing off when bad things have happened. Grissom seems pretty dense when it comes to human emotions, unless it affects his work i doubt he'd notice. Catherine is the obvious choice, and i really hope they actually make something of his emotions. Sure, he pointed the gun at McKeen, but Warrick and him have been pretty much joined at the hip since they were littlen csi level one's.
