i am so glad i found this thread!
im currently staying in japan for 6 months, for on a gap volunteer placement and having been trying to learn the language, but im really rubbish!
I know a few words, mostly what I've picked up from anime here and there. But I recognize more words as words, even though I don't know what it means. I got that from J-pop.
so someone told me i should listen to japanese music. i had absolutely no idea where to start, but you guys have saved me from the embarassement of going to the local music store and asking (in faltering japanese) "what music is cool?"!
thank you!
You're welcome. I've found that listening to j-pop allows me to hear the different words, and sound them out much better than by listening to a tape or CD. The music just lets things flow. One of the best CD's to listen to, I think, to pick up words is L'Arc-en-Ciel's Smile. It's last year's album, and it has only 10 songs. But its just one of the best albums I've ever heard.
