    Welcome, WhosLaughingNow. :D

Gosh, I haven't been very faithful to this thread as of late. Such a bad Canadian I am.

You know what annoys me about people from the US who talk about Canada? They always say we're 'foreign'. I don't consider the US a foreign country, why do they think we're aliens? Don't get me wrong, I love Americans (probably more than I love Canadians ) but it's a tad strange when they consider us to be 'foreign' when most of our population is within 100-200 miles of their border. So I hear, lol.

Personally, and this just my opinion, I think Canada should just get rid of its border with the US. I don't think people in Europe need passports to travel between countries. (Then again, they're quite a bit smaller) And there's the whole turf war and different governments but in travel, I don't think we should have to show a passport. I'd think our liscence saying where we're from should be enough to visit our neighbors to the south. (Okay and there's the whole immigrant problem. Ie: They want to get to the US so they go through Canada and that's just a whole other can of noodles.)

    What do you guys think?

I agree that the passport thing is really stupid and unneccessary, but I don't think we should get rid of the the border completely. They should just relax the security a little for people from Canada. Really they're just hurting themselves, not everyone wants to go to the trouble of getting a passport just to go to the US, so they'll probably go down tourist wise.

I made a friend online and we email back and forth. She lives in Illinois, and she calls me things like "foreigner, who's not really so foreign" and "crazy canook". It's sort of an ongoing joke, I'm pretty sure she doesn't actually think of me as foreign. I don't have much experience with Americans calling us foreign, but I can see how it would get annoying, considering we live really near eachother.

Did you know that right now, even though we need a passport to fly to the States, the Americans only need a birthcertificate and photo ID? I discovered this in the Orlando airport on my way home from vacation. How unfair.

DragonflyDreamer who ever said life was fair when it comes to somethings. I've always felt the Canadian governments to be weak when standing up to the Americans. I think the Americans should require passports to come to Canada.

It looks like our loonie is soaring high today. We may eventually have a dollar that is better than the American dollar :)

So how many of the local papers are already slashing the sports sections with hockey  The Toronto Sun is already upset that the Make Beleafs lost their first pre-season game the other day. Guys this is pre-season they are suppose to loose and then they can loose when the season begins  I'm not a hockey fan especially when it concerns the Maple Leafs.

Ok US citizin delurking for a second.

DragonflyDreamer - I don't think that is the case anymore. I live in the states but only about 10 miles from the border and I have heard you now need passports to go over the border. We have a lot of people go to Canada to gamble....the casinos are right over the border from us. When I was of legal drinking age in Canada - we didn't even have to show any id. Times have sure changed.

I agree though I think it is stupid. When I am asked what other countries I have been too.....I always forget about Canada becuase it does not seem like another country to me.

In Europe - we did not have to stop at any borders at all. The only time our passports were checked was at the airports.

Well according to the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security "beginning October 1, 2007, all U.S. Citizens traveling outside the United States will be required to present a valid passport to enter and depart from the United States."

Actually they can only us ID and a birth certificate if they have applied for but not recived their passport yet. And they can do that up until Oct. 1st.

Well, that must be recent, because that's definetely *not* what they said when I was there  But either way, I think it's kinda ridiculous. I mean, currently, I can drive an hour and cross the boarder with my drivers licence, whereas if I fly, I need my passport. I know it's changing soon, but I don't understand why they didn't do it all at once

I feel like I should be somewhat interested in what's going on in politics but it all just seems to complicated... can't we all just be friends and play nice? :p

Of course we can be friends. Politics is a very touchy issue because some people will not accept other peoples opinions so it is best if we stay off politics :)

On that note whether some care or not the Blue Jays beat the Yankees last night. So after sweeping the Red Sox they can now help the Red Sox by beating the Yankees. The Jays playoffs are history but they can still play a major factor in who wins :)

I care! I love Baseball. They had a 14 inning game on Friday, 11 inning game on Saturday and they're currently losing to Yanks right now.

    It's a pretty exciting series.

I just checked and the score's tied. I do love baseball this time of year and with a week left in the season nobody has clinched a spot. The only team that will be assured a spot is Boston.

Today is the first official day of fall and the leaves around here are starting to look quite pretty with the green surrounded by orange and yellow. It will be interesting to see what type of fall colours we will get with it having been so dry this year.

most of the fall colour here so far is dead leaf  there are a few nice yellow and red trees which is nice. my university has an arboretum that i need to go in to do a project for a class so it will be nice to be in there during the fall colour change.

so the other day i was watching the news (i never watch it) because the place where i volunteer was being featured in a segment where they were releasing a blue heron. but while i was waiting for that story to come on, one of the men on the news was going to stores trying to pay the printed american price for various things. since that day our dollar had hit par. obviously they would not let him do it, but it really is silly when you think about it if the money is equal. case in point: they just released the entire series 'angel' in one box set and i really want it. on the american amazon with shipping it would be $100 US, but on canadian amazon with free shipping it would be $120 CAN. now as a poor student that 20 bucks makes a difference to me, ill probably order through the american amazon for that reason. so even though our dollar is nice and high, we still get screwed :(

I've never been able to figure out why there is such a discrepancy between American and Canadian when it comes to things like DVD and books. allmaple I don't blame you for shopping American. $20 is $20 whether you are a student or not.
