"A La Cart" Episode Discussion *SPOILERS*

7.6 out of 10 I think. It was pretty good. Some of the GSR was kind of tolerable, but just for a split second, then it got waaaaaaay too sappy. Sara going to swing is great, Ecklie was classic.

DAVID PHILIPS IS JEWISH (as I suspected)
Warrick is divorced! Go Warrick!

Well, it started out uninteresting, but after the first quarter it picked up, especially with the go-kart plot.

I found the whole dark restaurant murder case boring. It was nice seeing Brass, but the murder suspects were ridiculous. Catherine looks overbotoxed, and I would've gagged if she and Warrick had kissed. Surely the writers won't go in for another interoffice romance - again! No, they couldn't, could they?

Loved, loved, LOVED seeing Nick and Greg working together. They work well together, and Greg is finally being treated like a full-fledged csi.

I may be naive, but I believed Greg when he told Nick he felt that something was going on between Grissom and Sara. I don't think he made that up at all.

The scene with Grissom and Sara in the car together (he with that dumb-looking hat) looked like grandpa was going to take his grandaughter out for an ice-cream cone at the Dairy Queen.

Nice to see that there was no actual murderer in the go-cart case. It was an accident brought on by two foolish young guys determined to best each other.

Great cast get-together with the racing cars in the end. Those guys have such a good time together. And it was nice to see Grissom having a good time with the guys for a change.

Finally, loved Greg's line to Nick: I used to make bombs...little bombs (or something like that).

Thumbs up! Two thumbs up, one for Gil and one for poor bandaged self-sacrificing bravely smiling Sara. I can't stop smiling myself about that last shot.

Stories were OK. They tried a little too hard with the blind restaurant one, but it worked for me. Loved Nick running after the guy! Loved Catherine and Warrick working together. Warrick is hot.

I thought it was a nice fun episode. The go-cart case was more interesting overall than the dining one. The motive on that one was sort of stupid.

It was cool seeing them all having fun at the end on the go-carts.

I hardly even heard Warrick say he was getting a divorce...it was said so quickly. Good thing I have the show recorded so I can hear him say it.

Loved Nick and Greg's conversation at the go-cart track. Nick saying he made something with lunch trays, then Greg saying he made bombs...little bombs. Nick's reaction was so funny. Then the look they gave each other before taking chase. I love when those two work together.

You can never tell with Greg if he was messing around by saying he knew or if he really did.

Nice seeing Ecklie being himself.

i just wanted to comment on how crazy it is that the gsr fans are kind of feeling this was a bittersweet episode, and most of the one's i've talked to didn't find the cases interesting; and then the non gsr fans found the cases good and interesting. i mean, it was like csi, they were following clues, using lots of equipment, which was good to see...but i guess i, being a sara/jorja fan, was let down by her sadness. cute scenes w/ griss and sara...cath and warrick...the head rolling was really funny
i'm just sad about it though...i feel like they're setting up this season to end it all. using old lines and such, tying back to the first season, rounding of the gsr, just a feeling of finality to me. i aqlso dont' feel like there's much left for them to do w/ the show, you know, new stuff?

just ...sad
good ep, but...yeah

Let me start at the end, purejoylove, the song is called "running up that hill" originally by kate bush and david gilmour (Pink Floyd). It was a major hit way back in the day, original video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BZsXVf6INc - I don't know who redid it, but they didn't do a terrible job.

Now, on to the episode.

Gag me with a spoon! Totally! Like, fer sure! Anyway, enough about the kittens.

The good: Good to see CSIs doing CSI work. Good to see Warrick doing something other than getting assigned to collecting evidence when nobody is around. Good to see him and Cath play a little bit of romance (but see bad for more).

The cases were both good. Happy to see Grissom doing an experiment. Happy to see Ecklie both upset about the material used, and impressed by the process and results. Overall just nice to see a bunch of good work by everyone on the team, and everyone played in the game (except Sara). Even the lab rats got their time. A good sign for the coming season.

Equally good this time around was that the show didn't have any significant continuality problems, no major errors in the crimes, and no real "gotchas" in the whole deal. A nice tight episode with two solid cases that both played well.

The bad? Wow. Warrick getting divorced pretty much the same way he got married (a one liner in the show). Obviously, it allows us to re-enjoy the Cath / Warrick flirty time (as the show had tonight) but the last thing CSI needs now is more shipping.

More bad? Grissom is getting to have a serious bad hat fetish. Pretty soon he will be driving slowly in the left hand lane on the highway with the right flasher on, while wearing white pants "up to here". Is retirement far off?

As for GSR, well... Sara has obviously already decides to throw herself on a sword to protect Grissom. I suspct her move to swing will make her very unhappy, likely to end up with issues with whoever ends up as her supervisor. Physically, she will heal. Mentally, I think she is "this" close to entering into some self destructive behavior.

There is also the issue of the start of the relationship. If in fact Grissom feels that their intimate relationship started 9 years ago, then everything he has done since CSI started has been tainted. The whole drinking / drunk driving / outrage situation is now all tainted by Grissom apparently feeling something was "on". This is massively ugly if this is true, certainly enough to make all his evaluations of Sara since she joined null and void. Could this lead to Sara being downgraded to a CSI3 or something, which leads her out the door?

Overall, this episode at least featured crime, criminals, and mystery, which is the real reason I watch the show. The ship stuff is the sort of thing I which would just get on a ship and sail away, leaving us to enjoy the mysteries of crime, not vague questions of the heart.

Raw_Alex, thanks for providing the name of the song. The remake (as played on the ep) is by Placebo - I found (and purchased) it on iTunes!

I loved the go cart case, but not so much the "blind" case. I'm a big GSR fan, so the intimacy was nice. Disappointed Sara has to go to swing...hope is doesn't mean we see less of her before she might make her potential "leave" from the show b/c she's my favorite character!

Cath/Warrick was cute. I'm a romantic at heart, so another background romance is just fine by me!

The good --

- David's "hey guys? I've got a dead body here" when Brass left them in the dark.

- A fun, uplifting case (go-karts)

- A pissed off Ecklie. He made some very valid points - especially with having Catherine doing Sara's evaluations.

- Brass was back to his funny ways

- Warrick divorced. At least (for now) we don't have to hear about the mysterious Tina again (one can only hope)

The not-so-good --

- A "fast" case and a "slow" case. This made the "slow" case seem even more slow and dragged on.

- Why is there no punishment for Grissom? It seems that Sara is the one being punished by switching to Swing. There should be some kind of professional punishment for Gil, with him being supervisor. There should be some kind of pay decrease, penalty, suspension for a week without pay or something.

- Warrick flirting with Catherine again. Normally, I wouldn't mind this, but with all of the romance crap we've had in the past few seasons, I'm just not up for any more romance/flirting between two CSIs again.

- What's with the increasingly overused "recyclables" from early seasons? The "headless horseman" quote from Evaluation Day, the two bubbly girls (who also reminded me of the two from Eval Day, griping about the cost of Ballistics Gel man (it was Cath back in season 5, now Ecklie here), and the uniform from the hot dog stand back in Viva Las Vegas. Yes, it is nice to know that they remember continuity every now and then, but putting all of these in one episode was a bit of overkill.

The ugly -

- Grissom's hat. What is it with his fetish of ugly-ass hats?

- The Gag-Suppression-Required scene (GSR). It definitely wasn't needed here. And with Grissom wearing that ugly ass hat, it made the daddy/daughter scene seem even more squeamish. Can we have a single episode where the two aren't in the same scene together? PLEASE?

I thought it was pretty good! The end of the cases did seem a little rushed, but I think the GSR stuff was important to help wrap it all up. I like how Sara corrected Ecklie with the ARE instead of the WERE, and how Grissom told Ecklie, "WE didn't want you to know." I also thought that the car scene was cute with him remembering the ponytail. Lastly, the go-carting was good as it showed team bonding.

i don't think it was to show continuity, i was under the impression that it was all deliberately in this eppy as more of a silly thing to do...maybe to test our csi knowledge. Usually when shows do an eppy like that, it is for the hardcore fans...

I spent most of the ep laughing, which drove my mom crazy.

First: The rolling head, good way to catch attention as to what could have happened with the kid.

Second: getting back to the old school CSI. Grissom quoting, Doc Robbins and his celeb photo scrapbook, that infamous hotdog shirt, and the true sciene of ti all.

Third: Ecklie. I'm not usually a supporter but he handeled the question with such grace that it's almost as if he had a personality makeover anf put it to great use. Instead of snapping at Grissom he did his best to level with him and explain that he didn't want to be the bad guy.

Fourth: The dining in the dark resturant was quite interesting, especially the three blind waiters...I thought it helped to add to the atmosphere. Also in this was when Brass darkened the room and he walked out, Catherine asked if he left, and David sounds scared he's in the dark with the body. I almost fell out of my chair.

Fifth: Nick and Greg. About darn time they get a case together, they did amazing and played well. I hope Nick knows that Greg was bsing about knowing about Grissom and Sara. The chase scene was awesome, shows they have to stay on their toes. Plus there was a lot more Greg scenes than last week. *thumbs up*

Sixth: The jelly man and the theory testing. "There's always froom for Jello, Conrad" One of the best lines of the show! Not to mention Ecklie wanted them to reuse it. I can see the Lab Rats trying to melt it back down and putting it into block shapes for Bobby Dawson to use. LOL.

Seventh: The go kart track and Warrick. Well the one liner wedding became the one liner divorce. I think we all knew that it was comming sooner or later. Which explains why Warrick does what he does in a coming ep. It was nice to see them having fun for once, and that the Doc got out there too. I felt bad for Sara when Grissom went to join them, but I could tell she knew she had to move to swing to keep herself level and not upset the rhythm of the rest of the team, pretty selfless act in my book.

All in all I was glad to see a lot of science/crime/crime scene work going on. It brought everything back into a normal perspective and helped to bring closure to what happened last ep. On a scale of 1-10 I'll give this an 8.5. :D

Wasn't most of Viva Las Vegas meant as an inside joke for fans who had seen the pilot?

I agree with xf here - I think that like in Viva, this was meant as a bit of a wink. The cases themselves had little or nothing to do with the old ones.

I do not mind them throwing back to some old stuff. People in real life will say similar things again in a similar situation they come across. The writers like to purposely do things like that.

SuperDAVE cracked my up several times tonight....way to go! *claps*

Gregs Bomb making comment as a kid and Nicks reaction was pretty amusing aswell!

Grissoms hat in the end will probably give me nightmares...lol, not really, but I agree with whoever made the comment about him looking 10 years older in it.

Ecklie was ok. Surprisingly enough, I was able to tolerate and actually have a chuckle at him during the "experiment" with the ballistics jelly.

And well, Hodges...typical....heheheh! What can I say, him being his normal self.

can't wait to see when the rest of the labrats show their faces other then Mandy.

If it had just been the headless horseman line, I think it might have been a mistake. But the whole thing felt very "classic CSI throwback" which is why I imagine it was intentional. So I agree.

LOVE Nick and Greg working together.

I have to say that I also liked Mandy and Hodges' "oh no" expressions as Sara walked through the hall. It kind of showed just why it would be so hard for her to go back to work the way things were.

*pout* I have that exact hat in grey. Of course, I'm not a 50-year-old man, but still.

I'm really hoping this means we get more Marc Vann.
