You know you're growing up when...

Just a few things I thought of, and I figured some of you might want to add to the list.

- You choose medicated lip balm over strawberry flavour with glittery bits.
- You've had an enthusiastic conversation about cleaning products.
- You've accepted you'll never get away with having pink hair again.
- You no longer make excuses if you don't feel like going out at night, because you can admit you don't feel like it.
- You start what you thought was a great thread, and suddenly forget all the ideas you have the minute you start typing (actually that's more about getting OLD than just growing up, but you get the picture)

- You go to dinner with you University pals and almost every sentence starts with 'when we were younger'
-You change the burguer place you used to hang out with your friends for an Italian Restaurant.
-Instead taking a bus to go back home, you drive to your house, 60 km away from the place you're at.
-Actually you drive your friends to their house.

All that happened to me last friday, actually.

Haha, awesome thread. I feel so old lately... here are my additions:

- when you're satisfied after 2 cocktails or longdrinks, and you actually feel tipsy after the 3rd (I'm so out of training... :p)

- when you're almost shocked at the "youth of today" for the way they behave

- when you go to the grocery store prepared with a shopping list that covers the whole week

- when you don't remember the last time you went out to a party

- when you can't go on spontaneous vacations or weekend trips because of the kid (umm... cat I mean ;))

Several of the following apply to me.

  • You Know You Are Getting Older When...
  • 1. You and your teeth don't sleep together.
  • 2. Your try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you aren't wearing any.
  • 3. At the breakfast table you hear snap, crackle, pop and you're not eating cereal.
  • 4. Your back goes out, but you stay home.
  • 5. When you wake up looking like your driver's license picture.
  • 6. It takes two tries to get up from the couch.
  • 7. When your idea of a night out is sitting on the patio.
  • 8. When happy hour is a nap.
  • 9. When you're on vacation, and your ENERGY runs out before your money does.
  • 10. When you say something to your kids that your mother said to you, and you always hated it.
  • 11. When all you want for your birthday is to not be reminded of your age.
  • 12. When you step off a curb and look down one more time to make sure the street is still there.
  • 13. Your idea of weight lifting is standing up.
  • 14. It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired
  • 15. Your memory is shorter and your complaining lasts longer.
  • 16. Your address book has mostly names that start with Dr.
  • 17. You sit in a rocking chair and can't get it going.
  • 18. The pharmacist has become your new best friend.
  • 19. Getting "lucky" means you found your car in the parking lot.
  • 20. The twinkle in your eye is merely a reflection from the sun on your bifocals.
  • 21. It takes twice as long - to look half as good.
  • 22. Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt - doesn't work.
  • 23. You look for your glasses for half an hour, and they were on your head the whole time.
  • 24. You sink your teeth into a steak - and they stay there.
  • 25. You give up all your bad habits and still don't feel good.
  • 26. You have more patience, but it is actually that you just don't care anymore.
  • 27. You finally get your head together and your body starts falling apart.
  • 28. You wonder how you could be over the hill when you don't even remember being on top of it.

^^ Good list!

When a new song comes on the radio and you go, 'what the hell is this?'.

When you kid sister shouts at you because 'you don't get it, you don't know what it's like to be a kid'.

When most of your favorite shows are only on video now . My aunt complains about that on a regular basis.

When your favorite music is now out of copyright and free in the papers

When you laugh at things your older relatives used to laugh at when you were younger.

You use the phrase 'when you were younger' too much.

You go to do the laundry and start a conversation with people about the weather.

You say 'kids these days' a lot.

Granted, I'm only 18, but some of these apply to me

Haha, I love it. I'm only 20 but some do apply. I'm always saying

"Kids these days."

And my brother often tells me

"You're too old, you don't get it, I like to just hang out in the -10000 degree cold." and when i really don't get why he would do that!!

When you go out for a family meal, you're classed as one of the oldies... Gutted..

When you and your mates go out and it hits 12 and you're all tired convinced it must be 2am then realise its not and your knackered.

(happens all the time)

- You realise you don't want to take over the world anymore

-Those jokes you never really got in movies/tv shows suddenly make sense

-Sex isn't such a yukky icky 'oooh grosso' thing

-You realise how vulgar toilet talk is

-When your going ten pin bowling and you say 'I haven't done this for years!'

-Eating cookies for breakfast doesn't seem so appealing

- You don't have a curfew, but you go home earlier than when you had it.
- You discover the radio hostess saying your favourite songs are hits from the past.
- People who used to hang out with you actually marry.
- You discover yourself wanting to be an aunt/uncle.
- Anybody ask you for an ID when you want to buy alcohol.
- Young kids want you to buy their alcohol.
- People call you Mrs/Mr.

OMG this happens to me now! The first time someone asks you if you're married, in other words they assume you're old enough. Oh, and when when little kids refer to you as a lady/man rather than girl/boy.

- you're too tired and lazy to keep up with the show biz and you don't even know who is nominated for the Acedemy Awards this year

- you go to bed around 12 and actually fall asleep short after

- you look at a teen mag in the store and you realize that the singers and actors they all look up to are much younger than you

 So true! I was so sad because last week here started programme "Yesterday, here, now" or something like that, what presents 80s and 90s phenomenons, music, style, programmes etc.etc. :( and I goddamn remember most of those!

Something, what was "a hit" when you were a kid, makes comeback - and often as result you feel bit annoyed and think that you were "the real fan".
I mean, when I was a kid, in late 80s, there was this Japanese anime/ginga called Nagareboshi Gin (story about dogs that fought against horrible bear), we watched edited version and it was a big hit and now in 2000 or so they were making dvd version of it and also releasing uncut version and every friggin' kid born in 90s were "OMFG SO BIG FANS!"
*sobs*

You know you're growing up when you actually start understanding what adults are saying when they talk to you, and actually care.

-you get a job that pays more than $8.00/hr. at the mall
-you live on your own and pay your own bills
-staying out late, going to clubs, getting drunk and puking your guts out is pointless
-a boy at the mall called me "ma'am"
-when you call someone else "a boy"
-there is no desire to watch those music channels ie. MuchMusic or MTV
-don't understand why teens are crazy about Miley Cyrus
-don't know who the new artists are .... the Jonas Brothers? Never heard of
-conversations with your friends start with "when I was a little kid"

-When boys become a regular topic to discuss
-When going to the mall with your mum is... EW
-When you are allowed to ride a bike down the raod without your mum or dad
-You get jokes that adults think you don't and make them feel stupid :p
-You start talking to your friends about what TV show you watched when you were little.
-You no longer say "When I grow up I wanna be..."
