Wallpapers; Putting hands together

Let me add s/th:

For the next round: whoever posts an "improved" wallpaper (means that you added s/th on the given picture to work with), should explain it a bit how he/she made it.
I guess this would be helpful, cause this thread is here to help photoshop newbies to improve their skills what katbug already mentioned ;)

Hi! Sorry if I caused any problems. Did not mean too.....anyways I did not have a specific pic in mind -but I did find one. I am work though so all I have is a pic.....when you start your wallpapers.....
1) do you look for larger pictures to use?
2) do you immediately crop?
3) do you start on a trasparent canvas, white or color background, or immediately find a fancy one to use?

BTW - what does s/th mean?

No worries, you didn't cause problems, I just agreed with you in my own personal complicated way
And s/th just means 'something' - sorry, s/t (sometimes) I'm too lazy to write some words out in full.

OK, I'm not a Wallpaper-Pro, but that's the way I start:

I'm clicking through some screencaps or the pictures in my folders, and when I see one I really like, I try to create something. Exactly how I do it with banners, icons...

1) Whether you prefer large or small pictures depends on your own liking, I always combine large and small ones. But I always use more than one.

2) Cropping: well, also depends on what you wanna do with the picture. I mainly use the lasso tool of my graphics program, with that you can cut out the person or other objects of the picture, without the background.

3) background: again what you prefer. I love to use dark backgrounds, you can blend the pictures very well, but - in my case - the background comes last.

Thanx for the pic katbug, I'll see what I can do with it, and I'll try to explain how I did it. Mind you, my English isn't that good when it comes to technical stuff.

Thanks! I have learned alot the last few weeks...but still struggling with certain things.
I would never have guessed....your English is great. Where are you from?

pssssssh you lazy, lazy girl lol :p

I'm really excited to see the things that come out of this thread. As soon as I heard this idea I thought it would be an excellent idea, and a great way for everyone to learn, including myself. I think that this will be a great learning tool for beginner and advanced wp makers alike. So have fun, and learn!!!

Katbug, I'm from the Netherlands. Is there any specific text you want added to your wall?

Nope - this is not for me....this is just for practice! My family is your neighbor! They are from Belgium.

Okay katbug, this is what I came up with your request

I cut out the pic and cropped it a bit.
Then I ues 2 textures and blended them.
I selected the layer of the pic and moved it into the box.
Then I merged the layers and added the 'evidence' brush.

Hope you'll like.
If you want, you I can PM you the textures, so you can give it a try of your own.

Oh that looks so cool! I would love the textures so I can try this.....
couple questions - what do you mean by
"I selected the layer of the pic and moved it into the box."
did you put the pictures on top of the textures or the textures on top of the pictures?
what is the evidence brush? Is that also something you found on the web?

Oh this is so helpful!

Thanx for the compliments you both!
Katbug, I just Pm'd you the texture and layer. Hope you'll get the hang of it.

I cannot wait to try it tonight....thanks so much!!!

Ok when I went to get the layer and texture - they were gone from the link! :( So I tried this instead Nick
