Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

i am just not a sport person in general, the only sporting event i will watch of my own accord is show jumping and the kentucky derby. but my boyfriend has been watching the olympics and since there is only one tv i have caught a bit of it. i did watch the opening ceremony in its entirety and really enjoyed it. i like how they incorporated the audience in white to create a screen for the projections, and had them pull out lights at certain times. my favourite parts were the fiddlers and tap dancers, and kd lang. i think that song is beautiful and i especially love her version of it, i enjoyed the simplicity of the performance with just the lights in the stands.

when i talked to my mom today she said there was some unhappiness with the opening ceremony because there "wasnt enough french" :wtf: everything except the speeches was said in both languages (with french coming first of course) and the ioc president did his half in english and half in french. i thought that was a little silly to complain about.

i hope canada does well, especially since the boyfriend is american and he has already started being a bit competitive  but its all in good fun :)

Canada just won Gold in the Men's Mogul

Alexandre Bilodeau has become the First Canadian to win gold on our own home turf :)

and true to form this is the first Olympics where the CBC hasn't got the TV rights.

Man that moguls stuff is just crazy! I hate riding moguls (mostly because I'm a boarder) but it is just mesmerizing to watch. I'm very proud of our guys and gals. :)

Yeah, I forgot to mention I loved the big fiddling/step part of the opening ceremonies! So fun. Ah, Canada... we're so quaint, but we're fun! :D

No matter how much they try to improve the figure skating judging it's always just horrifically bad. The second Canadian couple was horrible and they put them top three??? :wtf:  :scream: :(

ETA: OK, so they ended up in 6th after the short program, but that's still way to high considering how bad they were.

Actually, CTV had the TV rights to the Calgary Olympics, which is why they wanted these ones. Personally, I think CTV having it is better beacause CTV also owns TSN and Sportsnet so they can show different stuff on different channels. I was flipping through Men's moguls and Figure skating tonight.

And congrats to Alexandre Bilodeau for getting the first Canadian gold medal at a home games :D My mom and I were jumping up and down when it happened. It was great :)

As for the figure skating, I don't think that Dube and Davidson were horrible per se but they weren't as good as the other Canadian team, Langois and Hay. Anyway, I hope that tomorrow's free skate will be better than tonight's short program.

Catching up here about the Friday night Opening Ceremonies. WOW, More than 60,000 people in the stadium, incredible the most spectatular to us ever. I was hypnotized. Where to begin. The 82 countries, with all their flags, and all so happy. it made us smile too. The Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, so cool and our VP Joe Biden, once again all smiles. But the performers and traditions from Canada's aboriginal communites [aren't they Indians?] with thier outstanding, colorful costumes, dancing and singing were just captivating. The giant polar bear rising from the stadium floor and hovering over some performers, on a simulated ice flow. The those Celtic fiddlers & tap dancers were unbeliveable:eek: The darling acrobat on wires also so talented. I guess most Americans aren't aware of the different geographic territories, from forest, to rockies to the prairies..very interesting and fascinating GO CANADA

The figure skating, the skiers, the luge, all of it, such talented sports people. The only thing that irritated me a were the narrators, I'd think say the skiers who jumped off the big lift, were perfect and they'd say "Well, his left leg was not even, a bit off" I'd go 'shut up' it was perfect to me.. It's really enjoyable to watch this~

I'm dying to be watching the men's downhill today, but I'm stuck at work... sigh... Oh well, not like it won't be covered a hundred times in highlights this evening!

Meh, been just bad for us this far :( Stupid Swedish learn to ski again ;)

Nah anyways, ski jump - Ahonen 4th again - poor thing, such a wonderful career for 15yrs and still missing olympic medal (individual) hope big hill goes better :) Amman is in great shape again.
Women's hockey - yay for win!
Skiing - bad for us. Really bad. But I was happy to see someone else than Northug winning in men's 15km
Nordic Combined - ah yes, the others get medals.

Moguls - been so great for us for years but now.. 15th and 18th?
Speed skating men 500m - so goddamn close :(

It's rather interesting first to stay up at midnight, then sleep few hours wake up for few hours and back to sleep :p

I watched a bit for opening ceremonies... which was pretty much typical opening ceremony :p I don't think I've seen a bad one (except Athletics World Championships in Helsinki 2005)

I think for FInland this will be the worst winter olympcis for few decades :(

How's your men's hockey going to be, Ducky? I think Canada is playing Norway tonight. There's a Czech guy working in the coffee shop below my office, and he had the balls to say he's looking forward to them beating Canada in the final game! AS IF!
